RnB :o You don't see that too much. What was that entry?

{oh and also my entry is rap so riskqué}

Well I can't pick out a specific example, but I bet there has been a few RnB hits recently, even if none won exactly but I was just emphasing the fact that all sorts of genres can and do win (yay for varied taste also :funky: )

By the time you've figured that out it will have changed for the next contest.

(but certain types of inoffensive electro house or generic fempop always tend to have a good base much to my chagrin)

So true tbh

Are we getting the Semi finals tonight? :o

 all signs point to no

Drum n bass seems to be the closest thing to a genre that almost guarantees a hit but it may just come across that way because it's sent so infrequently and whenever it is sent they tend to be very good examples of the genre. Although it's been a while since we had the last 'token dnb hit' anyway (Delta Heavy was the last I think?) and there were still a few big flop drum n bass entries (justice for Rob Gasser). So basically there's not really such a thing as a safe genre.

In terms of winners, over the past year or two dance entries have consistently performed the best, but you're just as likely to find a dance song languishing last in the semi. It's not enough to just find the right genre, but something pretty special from said genre with widespread appeal.

As for my own consistent drop in form since 2012 onwards really, I think my own tastes have moved more out of line with the general tastes, though I still do quite often give 18 points to the winner. I also like to constantly switch genres, to keep it interesting for myself as much as anyone else, so I can't really rely on the same reliable voter base each month when I leap from KOLAJ to Real Lies or One More Time to Pegboard Nerds in the space of a month. Back in 2009-11 Scandipop ruled, and it was more or less what I always sent, so was in general line with what did well.

That's why we need Aprogonia back with the $l*t jams
Well April always points my trashier entries so yes BRING HER BACK

(In fact she could have pointed "Dynasty" pretty high as well :snif:)

Justice for Varakë's "Freak" tbh
So in summary there's no way of pinpointing what will be a hit or not - I guess it's just luck of the draw at the end of the day. Although it does seem songs of the dance genre overall tend to do better than other genres on the whole
I'd say "dance" is the best we have but equally so much dance DNQs or flops because there's so much of it that it can't ALL do well. And just saying "dance" or "pop" is too wide anyway. It depends what catches on, transcends "blocs" or the fans of different genres, or what appeals to basically all of a certain "bloc" and you can't predict that. Again just send whatever

"Luck of the draw" yes I suppose.

Well I think pop and dance are the top two favourite genres so I guess dance-pop hybrids are somewhat more likely to succeed but again there's no guarantee and choosing songs based on genre isn't really encouraged

Not really. The constantly changing shape of the contest's member base has a huge impact too, which is shown from the Reloaded contests, which throw up completely different results now. And there are songs that come top five now that would have been easy DNQs back in 2009/10. Nothing ever stays the same, which is really part of the beauty of the contest.

#AcceptRisersConfirmation if Semis are not opening tbh ;)

Well 'dance' is such a vague term to describe a song's genre considering there's hundreds of different dance sub-genres, so sending dance can't always guarantee you a hit it has to be the right kind of dance. And with Danaelanda being a dance-oriented country we've missed the mark numerous times as it's so unpredictable what will do well when it comes to it.

I don't believe we've had an RnB winner recently, here's a quick summery of the genres we have had winning anyway

There's no way of guaranteeing a HIT but you can basically guarentee a FLOP if you go urban/R&B/(serious male) Hip-Hop ;o
Is this why Totto never plays this anymore? :(
Personally I'm still amazed that we've got 85 finals and god knows how many semis in and have NEVER had a nul pointer. Which really completely proves how eclectic our music tastes all are, there's always SOMEBODY to vote for everything. Even when Peter30 tried to troll with a terrible song to achieve this feat, Pavel was there to vote for it

BOOTS top 25 tho ;o

(R&B seems to be cursed to DNQing most of the time though lol)

Someone always has to ruin it! Most recently Mattias being the one person to vote for Ngaiire last month  It keeps coming so close to happening even with 30+ voters in the semis, I expect it will eventually happen.

or a twink ballad :') justice for my first Ulrik Munther and Reed Deming entries x

We are overturning the veto on Tim's entry on the grounds that there isn't enough within the framework to support it.

We'd like to caution against anyone reading this and thinking of repeating this to overturn the mods. There were extenuating circumstances at play here.

And even when New Caprica sent a K-Pop boyband song in B.A.P and Yu was in the other semi, I chucked it a point at the last moment, seriously, it was a very late addition to my votes as it grew on me just enough. We were so close to a legitimate one there. Not sure it'll ever happen if that couldn't be one.

And yeah, there's always going to be a dance song doing well because of how many dance fans we have but it's in all likelihood not going to be YOUR dance song
