Posted July 15, 20169 yr Inspired by PeteFromLeeds - just to demonstrate Drakes dominance and how much of an INJUSTICE it is towards so many other songs, feel free to name any current songs that deserve the number one spot more than One Dance. Go

July 15, 20169 yr So many things wrong with the concept of this thread. 1 - since when did any song "deserve" to go to number 1? 2 - Why exactly is a long running number 1 less deserving than one of the songs that it kept from number 1? 3 - This is all down to opinion.

This thread is a complete joke btw, I know all three factors and I still like One Dance personally but it's kind of a mickey-take on those who seem to think Drake isn't deserved of this success.

July 16, 20169 yr I'd love it if Dua Lipa - Hotter Than Hell could have gotten there  And it would be quite a feat if Katy did it OA/OS if only she was on Spotify and gained quickly etc.
July 16, 20169 yr Katy gaining quickly on Spotify would be quite a feat. I don't think her music is very streaming friendly in 2016 tbh Edited July 16, 20169 yr by SKOB
July 16, 20169 yr no mickey take. Justin Timberlake Kungs Jonas Blue They all outsold Drake for the last 2 months. A large fanbase replaying the same song over and over does not mean it deserves to stay on top of the chart. It's actual sales are less than 500,000, it's just been played rather a lot over a long period on streaming sites. 100 years from now Bohemian Rhapsody will still be known (14 weeks on top) and Drake.....errr One Dance is not that well known now in the public at large. For the record, I bought Drake 2 weeks into his run on top and I inflicted my taste on the charts for that week, and I then ceased to inflict my taste in music on others for the last 12 weeks no matter how many times I played it :P
July 16, 20169 yr well if you compare almost any song with Bohemian Rhapsody, you'll find it won't be remembered much in comparison. That doesn't mean Drake doesn't deserve 14 weeks (and counting) at #1, he's had more chart sales than any other song for all those weeks and the song is massively popular with the young people so it is, technically 'deserved'.
July 16, 20169 yr No he has had more streaming plays than anyone else. He has only sold more in 3 weeks. That means for different people buying new music he has not been the most popular. For the same people playing the same record over and over amongst the minority of music fans who stream he has been the most played. :P Strip out spotify and he isn't the best selling record of the last 3 months - Justin Timberlake is so I understand B-)
July 16, 20169 yr Well the chart soon enough will be a full representation of what people are listening to rather than what people are buying, which makes it more an accurate representation of what is popular, imo. Downloads will soon become like CDs and Vinyl, give it 5 years.
July 17, 20169 yr Well the chart soon enough will be a full representation of what people are listening to rather than what people are buying, which makes it more an accurate representation of what is popular, imo. Downloads will soon become like CDs and Vinyl, give it 5 years. While I agree that the chart should reflect what is popular, ISTM it should reflect how *many* people like a song, rather than how *much* people like it. The former was how the chart worked before the streaming era. On that basis, I suggest that there should be an absolute limit of 100 counting streams from each person, as that would be the equivalent of 1 download/CD purchase.
