That Chainsmokers track is really quite growing on me, I didn't like it at all the first few times I heard it.

At least they've reached the top 10. There are a lot of songs that peaked at #11 :heehee:

Stale as 3 month old chocolate cake the current climate of the charts. We'll ner get the days where 13 new entries entered the Top40. Not even Katy Perry although due to no streaming could stop Drake. 'One Dance' isn't even his defining song. Again I wish it could have been 'Take Care' or 'Hold On.....We're Going Home having that run. For urban and R&B fans which song do you wish had this run that Drake has had?

 

It is a sad slight to see in the charts with no movement in the Top10 and also so many songs charting lower thanks to streaming. Sorry but streaming in the UK charts does piss me off.

 

However it is here to stay and there is nothing we can do about it.

 

Cheap Thrills is gonna be one if the years longest runners - anyone have a list of the top 20 longest runners in the top 40 this year?

Just from peeking through the chart as it stands now, Cheap Thrills is on 23 weeks. Alan Walker Faded, Hymn for the Weekend and I Took A Pill in Ibiza are all on 25 weeks. Cake by the Ocean is on 22 and Work From Home 21. Zara Larsson Lush Life is on 29 weeks. Before they dropped out this week, Major Lazer Light it Up was on 33, Rihanna Work on 25, Lukas Graham 7 Years on 25, and Jonas Blue Fast Car on 26. Justin Bieber's three from last year probably would be up there for sticking around in the chart throughout a lot of the weeks this year as well.

 

In terms of the wider Top 100, Lean On is in its 73rd week and Uptown Funk on its 77th. Ed Sheeran Thinking Out Loud is on week 98, Sia Chandelier is in its 99th week, and The Killers' When You Were Young shows up as being in its 130th week in the Top 100.

I have complained to the BBC, not that it will make a blind bit of difference but it's better to vent sometimes!

 

About the Summer mix. Greg James recapping last week's top 4 and blundering so badly he actually revealed this week's top 4. Less and less time and enthusiasm being devoted to the chart. Friday's show had a distinct whiff of "It's such a pity we have to do the chart" about it. Absolutely needless to play 15 minutes of summer sh!t at the expense of playing five tracks in full, especially when they have Dance Anthems on later anyway.

 

If anyone is interested in the response I get from the BBC, I will post it!

I do agree though I feel it has often been the nature of the charts (especially on the albums side) where it's the fandom gained from the older, perhaps better tracks that allows the artist to chart better later on. And then for what it's worth, I'd argue that "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You" isn't Bryan Adams' most popular song nowadays, so it's no new phenomenon.

Cake by the Ocean is on 22 and Work From Home 21. Zara Larsson Lush Life is on 29 weeks. Before they dropped out this week, Major Lazer Light it Up was on 33, Rihanna Work on 25, Lukas Graham 7 Years on 25, and Jonas Blue Fast Car on 26. Justin Bieber's three from last year probably would be up there for sticking around in the chart throughout a lot of the weeks this year as well.

'One Dance' isn't even his defining song. Again I wish it could have been 'Take Care' or 'Hold On.....We're Going Home having that run. For urban and R&B fans which song do you wish had this run that Drake has had?

 

Just like Bad was bigger than Thriller and Thriller was bigger than Off the Wall in sales and MJ got his biggest hit with Earth Song (of all his perfect hits), One Dance isn't necessarily the artistic peak of Drake but it's probably the commercial peak.
