Was never aware this sampled George Clooney. Spookily, it was in the charts the week that George Clooney's chart-topping aunt Rosemary died.

 

Ramon Zenker and Gottfried Engels were also behind Bellini, who reached the top 10 in 1997.

Be Cool is hugely quotable but the music itself was pretty generic Eurotrance, I never loved it.

Yes I remember Reason well, as it is was played quite a bit on the radio at the time, and I didn't mind it at thetime, which was rare for trance records.

 

Be Cool I don't remember as much but I recently discovered it, it is more like late 90s trance in that there are no singing vocals, I might remember it vagely from my time ice skating when I was younger, and they would play trance records.

 

I do like the eurotrance sound of the time, I dont think it sounds too poppy like some do.

Interestingly the last hit song wikipedia describes as eurotrance is Example's Changed The Way You Kiss Me... :o

 

 

I'm DYING for a commercial trance comeback, surely all it takes is for someone like Bieber to release a trance-leaning single to lead his next album and the floodgates will reopen.

 

As far as I can recall the last big trance influenced hit in the UK was I'm Not Alone by Calvin Harris, I definitely don't agree with Wiki that the Example song was trance.

The last two were C'mon Catch Em By Surprise (by Tiesto, Diplo and Busta Rhymes) and perhaps Greyhound by Swedish House Mafia

Reason and Be Cool both brilliant tracks although Paffendorf had better songs than Be Cool.

I'm Not Alone is almost trance, it's close but there's no real 'build' in it, the main synth riff just comes in straight away in the same way modern EDM does (a term I really dislike using along with its late-90s equivalent 'electronica' - it's dance music, Americans, stop being difficult!). Definitely influenced by it though and a commercial trance comeback would be glorious, Alan Walker's Faded is the closest we've had to it in years - speed it up a little and it's there. It'll never be the same though, all we'll get is dull vocal pop tracks with vaguely trance-like riffs and hooks in the background and probably all featuring rappers. Ferry Corsten feat. James Arthur & Drake? God no!

 

'Greyhound' is EDM. 'C'Mon' is similar to the Example track, a big trance build near the start but eventually fizzles out into your standard 2010s EDM 'drop', plus in C'Mon's chart version there's so much rapping over the top you can barely hear the backing anyway.

 

I've tried a few times to work out what the last big trance hit was, only to basically find that impossible as the sound evolves so much with so many sub-genres it's hard to keep track. What I think of as the really 'classic' trance, as in the stuff Ferry, Rank 1 etc were releasing at the turn of the millennium...there's

from May 2004 which reached #19, along with another track that same month that might appear in this thread (

Then it gets trickier -

(#16 March 2005) is somewhere in the middle between trance and that 'UK hardcore' sound found on all the Clubland CDs, as is

(#10 August 2006) which is definitely trance influenced but I wouldn't really call it a trance track, that whole Clubland sound which we'll be seeing loads of later in this thread is a whole other thing for me. Otherwise you might as well call Cascada, Basshunter etc 'trance' which would be like calling 90s Take That Eurodance.

 

Genuinely I think of the first half of 2003 as the end of trance's chart domination, a handful of tracks sneaking into '04 and then commercially at least the charts move away from it.

The last trance hit I remember was When the Rush Comes - Motorcycle.

I just had a listen to Greyhound (brilliant track too!) and first I thought that's not trance but there are elements of trance. Wikipedia says (although we know Wiki isn't that reliable a lot of times) is Electro house.

Have there been any big trance hits in any other country since 2005? Or did it die out everywhere commercially simultaneously? Was Chicane's version of Poppiholla in 2009 not trance btw, it sounds like it to me.

 

There's still some great trance stuff coming out, Armin Van Buuren's A State of Trance compilations always have 2 or 3 tracks with crossover potential, but of course they never get the chance on radio. Calvin clearly has it in his arsenal to create a proper trance hit but I doubt he ever would.

Ah so that is the genre of our new tune we are working on danG (your prog house beats and my trancey synths) :lol:

 

Anyway I am wondering are there any drum and bass tracks which have elements of trance in buildups and synths this is another way you can look at trance influence in modern tracks, and a track could technically be both drum andbass and trance as they have similar bpm.

Really? I've never seen them as a Steps-like act and in Germany they were a dance act.
