June 23, 20178 yr I just remembered something about Thunder In My Heart - every time I heard that opening instrumental hook, I kept thinking about this level from the SNES classic Donkey Kong Country! 0:56 in... lBBCjx_p7NU Compare to about 0:08 into that Thunder In My Heart video... EDIT: Just realised I'm being dumb, cus if anything Nintendo nicked it from Leo Sayer, as it's on his original version too...still similar though! Edited June 23, 20178 yr by BillyH
June 23, 20178 yr Ah, this was the era when I was a chart regular <3 I actually found 2006 was a very good year for dance music, it dropped off a bit after that but will be fun to reminisce, so I must remember to keep up with this. Thunder in My Heart is really fab, bit of a random number 1, but I think it's held up well. LOVE Hi Tack as well, actually a really good use of a sample that arguably works better than the original.
June 27, 20178 yr I don't think I was that into 'Thunder In My Heart Again' at the time but I absolutely love it nowadays! I was only 8 when it came out and my taste was far more pop leaning than it is now so that probably explains it  my appreciation for it rose as my appreciation for dance music in general did really. It is one of two dance singles that I own on vinyl (as well as Artful Dodger feat. Romina Johnson - 'Movin' Too Fast') as I picked it up at a carboot sale *.*
June 28, 20178 yr Don't let the peak for Adagio for Strings fool you - it has racked up a large amount of sales for a number 37 hit (more than the William Orbit version thanks to good trickle sales) and is one of the most iconic / well known trance songs ever. I just have to comment here. His version is no where near as graceful as William Orbit/Ferry Corsten version.
June 28, 20178 yr I remember asking my mum to pick up the Thunder In My Heart Again single for me while she was out. She came home with it bemused that i wanted a single by Leo Sayer  One of the best looped house sample type songs for me of all of those from 2004-2006.
June 28, 20178 yr Author I just have to comment here. His version is no where near as graceful as William Orbit/Ferry Corsten version. I personally like both versions but prefer Tiësto's. And regardless of anyone's opinion, the Tiësto version has sold more and is more well known.
June 28, 20178 yr Ferry's all the way for me, although I did love Tiesto's at the time. Seems so bizarre that Tiesto's #37-charting hit has sold more than Ferry's #4 charting hit!
July 1, 20178 yr Author I notice that 'Buzzjack' has been speechless for the last week or so. Maybe he'll mish-mash together a post for our next Dance #1 soon.

I thought his biggest hit was "Rock Your Body Rock", it was William Orbit's version that got to number 4? Edit: oh wait it's his remix that got to number 4... :P Edited July 1, 20178 yr by Lenny
July 1, 20178 yr I notice that 'Buzzjack' has been speechless for the last week or so. Maybe he'll mish-mash together a post for our next Dance #1 soon. I know you are getting a bit impatient  , I will do it later today. An interesting track for our next dance number 1, and like many dance tracks in the mid 00s very retro sounding. Ferry Corsten? I thought his biggest hit was "Rock Your Body Rock", it was William Orbit's version that got to number 4? Edit: oh wait it's his remix that got to number 4...My favourite of his hits was Cry under the name System F in 2000. Only made #19 though. Probably my favourite dance song that makes the chart for 2000. w9uYlKYlZbM Edited July 1, 20178 yr by Buzzjаck
July 1, 20178 yr I personally like both versions but prefer Tiësto's. And regardless of anyone's opinion, the Tiësto version has sold more and is more well known. It just sounds ugly to me.
July 1, 20178 yr Out of the Blue is my favourite Ferry Corsten track and one of my favourite tracks ever. It seems to be getting better with age.
July 1, 20178 yr Same!! It's the #1 most played song on my iTunes, followed by Delerium's Silence :D Remember first hearing both songs in about 2004 and being blown away by them. Think I've said before, but Ferry remastered the song in 2010, sounding similar to the original but sonically much more beefed up - definitely worth a listen! Wanted to go back to this question I posted in the 90s thread last year, when we were on Orbital - The Saint: This one always frustrates me a little because it reminds me of another, similar track - probably late 90s/early noughties - that I heard a million different times on various adverts/TV shows in the early-mid noughties but never known the name of it as it's an instrumental. Features a brassy sample from what sounds like an old movie/TV show theme - but might not be - and goes into a garage/D&B style-sound similar to Bomfunk MC's 'Freestyler'. Unfortunately that's not enough to identify it but it's the same sort of idea as the Orbital track. Despite the suggestions I wasn't able to find it, and still don't know the name, but I've made a hilariously terrible MIDI/mp3 recording of my hazy memory of it: http://vocaroo.com/i/s1YqddIFvfwg Yeah, I know it's bad :P But does it ring any bells for anyone as to what I mean?
July 2, 20178 yr Mish Mash - Speechless http://images.45worlds.com/f/cs/mish-mash-speechless-radio-edit-541-cs.jpg Date: 9th April 2006 Weeks at UK Dance #1: 1 weeks Official Chart Run: 83-16-33-50-71-86-93 z2RGj4DHjgM On a relatively quiet week for dance in the charts this one hit wonder manages to make dance number 1. I didn't have any idea of who Mish Mash are prior to doing this article, but according to discogs they are a group created by Oscar Fullone who is the creator and resident DJ of the Mish Mash parties in London and Glasgow. They also consist of Danish producer Kasper Winding and singer Louise Norby (aka Lois). I remember this song from the time on the music channels (even though it wasn't on much), it was certainly a lot different to the other retro influenced dance songs in the mid 00s in that was more chilled. It was probably my favourite dance track from early 2006 at the time because of this, so I am glad it made dance number 1 on this thread. I liked its whole retro sound at the time too (and the retro video too), even if it was a bit weird that something so retro sounding was a hit in early 2006, although it did sort of make sense considering retro influenced dance had been a big trend for a while. There are another few of these vocal sounding funky house songs to make the charts in early 2006 (including two that see the return of that early 00s trend of having an animated music video) over the next few months of our thread but none of them make dance number 1 sadly.
July 2, 20178 yr This is one I never loved, but didn't mind hearing. Quite like it. Btw where do you get the non-top 75 part of the chart run from?

July 3, 20178 yr This is one I never loved, but didn't mind hearing. Quite like it. Btw where do you get the non-top 75 part of the chart run from? Whilst I liked a lot of dance songs, I would say the first one I truly loved at the time will be in 2007, one that was much bigger in Europe (where I often heard it on my holidays), than in the UK. (I got the chart run for all the dance number 1s I have done from the official charts website.)
July 12, 20178 yr Author from danG to Hissmeister, don't forget the next two dance entries. ;) (we're also coming up to the first year anniversary of the thread being opened!!! this will get finished someday, honest!!)
July 12, 20178 yr Haha, have we got yours to go after Hiss before we get back to me? I can't remember the order!
