Some more electro house now with this one hit wonder act. The version you're familiar with is the Vandalism vocal radio edit. Vandalism are an Australian act whose members include Andy Van Dorsselaer formerly of Madison Avenue.

 

Armand van Helden - I Want Your Soul (#19)

 

A groovy house record from Armand van Helden, back when he was on a bit of a roll with quite a few chart hits. He's still going strong now but not in the charts sadly, in fact this is his last chart hit to date, excluding a certain song that was big in 2009, and also excluding Duck Sauce which he was half of.

 

Booty Luv - Don't Mess With My Man (#11)

 

Another hit for Booty Luv but their success wasn't to last for much longer. This one is a cover of Lucy Pearl's #20 hit.

 

The Chemical Brothers - The Salmon Dance (#27)

 

Follow-up to 'Do It Again'. Featuring a weird video with rapping fish.

 

Dave Spoon (feat. Lisa Maffia) - Bad Girl (At Night) (#36)

 

Great electro house tune with an unexpected comeback for Lisa Maffia of former So Solid Crew fame. Should've done better.

 

Hi_Tack - Let's Dance (#38)

 

Pointless electro house rendition of the David Bowie song, and released ages after 'Waiting 4 U'. No wonder it flopped.

'With Every Heartbeat' is such a great song and always gets me. Robyn is such an underrated artist imo!

 

Looking at the other dance hits from the time it summer 2007 was such a great time for dance music with some epic tunes there!

I Want Your Soul is fantastic imo! That 80s style production!

 

I Found U is great, very unique drop and early 90s breakbeat influences too but I still prefer Feel the Vibe (Til the Moring Comes) from Axwell.

 

The Creeps isn't great imo, too in-your-face and shouty for my liking.

 

Love is Gone is one of David Guetta's best imo

 

The Let's Dance remix sounds a bit Eric Prydz - Proper Education in terms of style of production and is a decent remix.

 

The Green Light Freemasons remix is good enough.

Haha, I remember well! I was also overwhelmed/ecstatic. One of the best chart moments since I started following.

Love With Every Heartbeat :heart: it’s one of my all time fav songs!

By now I'd long started lurking on Buzzjack and definitely remember the utter thrill as this zoomed up the charts - in fact I'm fairly sure it was Buzzjack itself where I first heard about the song! And yet still didn't actually register here for another year for some reason...

 

Absolutely wonderful song, truly evocative of Summer 07 for me - I bought this, Axwell's I Found U and Kanye's Stronger all on CD single at Woolworths one day and spent the afternoon listening to all three on loop in glorious sunshine. What I'd give to be 18 years old again...

Ida Corr vs. Fedde Le Grand - Let Me Think About It

From one mammoth hit from a Scandinavian to another: this time it's Denmark's Ida Corr with a little helping hand from Detroit-loving Dutchman Fedde le Grand. This is in fact a Fedde le Grand remix of an Ida Corr original which appeared on her 2006 album "Robosoul", featuring uncredited vocals from fellow Dane Burhan G.

 

Fedde Le Grand transformed "Let Me Think About It" from a soulful acoustic urban track into the electro house banger we know and love. For Fedde, this was his third top 10 hit within a year, following UK #1 hit single "Put Your Hands Up For Detroit", and "The Creeps" with Camille Jones. This track in fact took Fedde's time in the top 10 to a quarter of a year across these three singles. For Ida Corr, who by the way is of no relation to Andrea and co, this was her only UK hit single.

 

The music video was shot in London and features Ida Corr and 3 female dancers pretending to play instruments (air guitar stylee). There is also a male dancer who mimes Burhan G's lines.

 

In 2017, a new version was released: the Celebration Mix - which to my ears doesn't sound much different! It has become a timeless modern dance classic, though.

 

Hated this at the time, but have grown to love it over the past few years.

Let Me Think About It is good enough, I don't think I was much a fan at the time, thought the vocal was a bit poppy, like it better now though. I think I prefer the Celebration Mix to the original though as it sounds more funky I think.

I've just realised I didn't finish my batch of 4 before I went away... sorry! I meant to. I'll do the next one now before I go for a shower.

Freemasons featuring Bailey Tzuke - Uninvited

Freemasons had been perrennial chart underperformers until "Uninvited" came out - and you could even claim that this underperformed, peaking at #8 on the UK Singles Chart - and to date, the only credited Freemasons top 10 hit - however it grabs our Dance Number 1 spot for 4 weeks.

 

"Uninvited" is a dance re-working of Alanis Morissette's haunting track of the same name, with vocals provided by Bailey Tzuke - daughter of Judie Tzuke, who herself had a UK top 20 hit in 1979 with "Stay With Me Till Dawn" and further album chart success in the UK. "Uninvited" was originally released as the soundtrack to movie City of Angels, before being included as a bonus track in certain regions on "Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie".

 

Fast forward a decade and Freemasons included their dance cover of "Uninvited" on their album "Unmixed". The cover keeps the haunting elements of the original whilst turning it into a disco stomper, still popular today.

 

The music video shows Bailey sitting on a bed, staring out a window, sitting in the corner, and singing next to her washing line. She appears to be experiencing bad dreams.

 

Freemasons amassed 5 other top 40 hits: "Love On My Mind", "Watchin'", "Rain Down Love", "When You Touch Me" and "Heartbreak (Make Me A Dancer)" - plus heavy involvement on the reworking of Gusto's "Disco Revenge". This is on top of Russell Small's involvement as one half of Phats & Small who had a big hit with "Turn Around" in 1999, plus a further top 10 hit "Feel Good". Freemasons are also well known for their popular remixes for big artists including Beyoncé, Shakira, Kelly Rowland, Kylie Minogue, Whitney Houston and Solangé. Freemasons remix of "Green Light" by Beyoncé and "Work" by Kelly Rowland were actually pushed as the single versions of the songs. Their remix of Beyoncé's "Ring The Alarm" was used regularly as backing music on the UK X-Factor (not sure about other regions).

 

This is a nice one for me to finish my group on given I supported Freemasons at Reading Pride last year - and also the 4th of 4 mammoth dance hits in a row! When I met Russell last year, he pretty much confirmed their foray into the charts is over but they will continue to play DJ sets around the world as they currently do. They tour the entire world. I also failed in my mission to encourage them to get involved with Eurovision: Russell told me it is known in the British music industry as the "poisoned chalice" - it was worth a try! I'm hoping they at least get back to remixing soon because we could really do with their touch on some dullard songs right now.

the original is such a fantastic song, possibly the best song ever not to be released in the UK as single

a song with such raw emotions that sends shivers down the spine whenever you hear it

Freemasons seemed to have greatly changed their style by this stage, not much disco influence any more. Of course they would return to disco influence in 2008.

 

I don't like Uninvited as much as Love On My Mind, Watchin', When You Touch Me or Rain Down Love.

 

I remember I wasn't that big a fan of it at the time, it just sounded a bit too poppy for me with the vocal.

Is it back to me then for the next four?

 

The next dance number 1 by the way is something completely different in style to anything else we have seen in a while on this thread!

T2 featuring Jodie Aysha - Heartbroken

Finishing off 2007 was a huge hit from T2, which brought back bassline garage into the charts with 'Heartbroken'. The song was unfortunate enough to spent three weeks at #2 behind the huge 'Bleeding Love', which was spending the last three of seven weeks at #1. T2 is English producer Tafazwa Tawonezvi, not to be confused with the English progressive rock band, the Australian tea company, the Trainspotting sequel and a number of other things called T2. It features Jodie Aysha who wrote the lyrics when she was 14 about her older sister who was heartbroken. She was 18 at the time of the song's release. The song is a brilliant example of its genre, and I'd say the best thing to come out of the 00s bassline revival.

 

Aysha was reportedly offered £1,500 by label All Around The World in place of any royalties, which she turned down, and she was also not paid for her appearance in the music video. In 2013 however she eventually won a case for her share of the royalties. T2 was reportedly paid £30,000. The song became somewhat of a sport anthem due to the music video which featured football stars Micah Richards and Anton Ferdinand. Also, the song was later rewritten to support boxer Ricky Hatton in his match against Floyd Mayweather. The song did not chart outside of the UK and neither artist would make the UK top 40 again. The follow up for T2, 'Gonna Be Mine' (feat. Addictive) charted at #47. 'Heartbroken' was sampled by DJ Khaled & Drake for single 'To The Max' which charted at #49 last year. As for Jodie Aysha, some online news sites report that her follow-up 'So Typical (La La La)' charted at #5, but it in fact did not chart at all, nor did anything else she released. She continues to release music with her most recent song having come out just last year however. T2 likewise is still going too.

Anyway 'Heartbroken' is very different to anything else around at the time, the bassline is brill, and I like the funky vocal, but wasn't that big a fan at the time because I thought the vocal was a bit poppy and also the fact I was in my snobby era and had moved off liking dance or most chart music that much for some reason by this point :(
