March 11, 20178 yr Galvanise is a total classic, I remember hearing my dad play it all the time when it came out - massive banger! Good to see The Chemicals and Q-Tip remain in contact after over ten years with Go, also.
March 11, 20178 yr Galvanize *.* Still sounds so ahead of it's time, you just don't get dance tracks that innovative these days. They kinda lost their spark a bit after that though, their 2007 material in particular was pretty weak.
March 11, 20178 yr Some great songs since I last looked in this thread. Object Of My Desire is really quite the cool oddity, you'd never get something that sounds so trashy in the chart now and even for its time it seems a weird one. Strings Of Life is a fantastic and interesting dance song, and Galvanise is obviously excellent, and quite timeless now, those synths are recognisable anywhere.
March 11, 20178 yr Sunrise was kind of ahead of its time in that it is production-wise rather like the early 2010's progressive house-EDM songs, like Roll Deep's Good Times for example (down to the cheesy vocal in the chorus of that one) I do remember it from the time, but wasn't a big fan of it, it was too cheesy and Clublandy for my tastes back then. I would post the new dance tracks making the chart in the week of Angel City at dance number 1 but there weren't any, just a few older ones hanging about. On the week of our next one there were two great new tunes going low top 40. JYpjy-zG2ZA #33 - Remember hearing this disco house tune on The Box at the time (this video is actually from that music channel). Thought it was a crazy sounding song designed for use for fitness/exercise (largely because of the video) at the time but I really liked it. Looped house remix of an 80s rock track, not unlike Duck Sauce's track NRG from 2014. Now I would say that along with Sharam's PATT it would be my favourite 80s remix of the mid 00s, certainly is a lot less commercial sounding than most of them. Jx_fpJsFfso #35 - Don't remember this from the time, but is a great vocal trance song, much different to DT8 Project's last one The Sun Is Shining (Down On Me), which was progressive funky house. Definitely with the ethereal vocal and dream trance production, sounds like it was produced by the same person as The Opera Song which it was, as Darren Tate of DT8 Project is also known as Jurgen Vries.
March 11, 20178 yr When I first heard We Close Our Eyes at the time, I had definitely never heard anything quite like it before, certainly has a less commercial sound than the rest of the 80s remixes (probably why it didn't do better in the charts) and is harder hitting. March 11, 20178 yr 'Galvanize' was such an excellent Chemical Brothers single! I loved 'Go' too, so it seems that the fusion of Chem Bros and Q-Tip is a pretty perfect one.
March 11, 20178 yr 'Destroy Rock and Roll' was such a bizarre hit, hadn't heard it for a while but the moment I saw it here I immediately remembered the "Missing Persons, Duran Duran" bit! Mylo was randomly huge for a couple years in the mid noughties only to disappear soon after. This is the remix of 'Attention' I remember hearing more at the time than the original: G9s1F7djdNw 'Sunrise' I haven't heard for YEARS, I probably mentioned it earlier in the thread but I had a major teenage crush on Lara :P Was thrilled when I saw her perform live at the Hammersmith Apollo in 2008! 'Winter' underperformed from what I remember, an absolute ton of airplay on Radio 1 and the CoolClarity forum predicted it to chart much higher. I've barely heard it since it was released so the 2005 nostalgia is strong! 'Shine', 'Strings of Life' and maybe our next song in this thread were all seen as potential #1 contenders, probably expecting a winter dance #1 in the same way 'Touch Me' and 'Take Me To The Clouds Above' had achieved in recent years. March 11, 20178 yr 'Winter' underperformed from what I remember, an absolute ton of airplay on Radio 1 and the CoolClarity forum predicted it to chart much higher.Well, same as Tiesto's Adagio For Strings, it was trance...which hadn't been doing as well in the charts for a long time by this stage. I've barely heard it since it was released so the 2005 nostalgia is strong! Although, I am confident to say that I am the one on this forum who has most mid 00s dance nostalgia!
March 11, 20178 yr I assume like Winter, We Close Our Eyes was expected to do better than it did as it was played a lot on The Box at the time I remember. The next one breaks our run of official top 10 reaching dance number 1s we have had on this thread for a while. Its one I remember from the time and liked a lot too, also its quite a chilled dance track by mid 00s dance standards.
March 13, 20178 yr Reflekt featuring Delline Bass - Need To Feel Loved http://www.livingelectro.com/files/images/s/57066/need-to-feel-loved-the-others-remix_large.jpg Date: 27th February 2005 Weeks at #1: 1 week Official Chart Run: 14-21-36-49-67 (4 weeks) DEuYCconQog "Need To Feel Loved" was the first chart hit for British duo Seb Fontaine and Jay Peake, a.k.a. Reflekt. This emotive club track was born in 2004 but not released until February 2005, peaking at number 14 in the UK Singles Chart and holding the Dance Number 1 in the same week. The vocals - provided by Delline Bass - are bought to life by the building strings throughout the track, showing how deep and powerful dance music can be. "Need To Feel Loved" samples a track called "Ghosts" which was the theme song from "The Road To Perdition". The video plays in a very disjointed way, collaborating well with the building emotion, while showing a couple spending time together yet you feel they are so far apart. The clothing of the male character suggests he may actually be away with the army and that this is all in the female character (Delline Bass)'s head - she misses him. But that's up for debate! Reflekt released two further singles - "Shine" in 2006, and "Beautiful House" featuring 80s star Kim Wilde in 2012 - neither of which garnered any chart success. Edited March 13, 20178 yr by Lenny
March 13, 20178 yr Yeah this missing the top 10 was a big shock IIRC, had airplay for months and months before release - I first heard it in late 2004 so it's odd to think it didn't get released until March! Indeed it got played so much that I was a bit sick of it by the Spring, sounds brilliant today though. Found the CD single of this randomly four years later on the last day of Woolworths, who were selling it and every other CD they had in stock for 20p - absolute bargain! The Thrillseekers remix is the one I remember hearing the most, a little more trancey: huCbkk3mSxY Poor Delline Bass has had a bit of a horrifying few years since, as a quick Google of her name will reveal. March 13, 20178 yr I didn't want to draw to what Delline was doing now in the post and detract from the track - but it is quite crazy...
March 13, 20178 yr I remember this track and really liked it at the time. I liked the chilled deeper dance in 2005 like this as well as the more euphoric funky house tracks. Avalon - Juliet and Say Hello - Deep Dish are two other good deeper dance tracks from 2005.
March 13, 20178 yr Some other dance tunes that were in the chart during the one week of our next dance number 1 YDop41AUmJ8 #16 This is a great if a bit over the top and cheesy eurotrance tune. This would be the last big Clubland style eurotrance hit for a while, as the genre was becoming less popular in favour of house. The production in this reminds me a bit of the BJSC fave Easyfun's track Laplander (although with a harder beat) - it has those sort of chaotic fast synths in it. Didn't like this sort of thing at the time though. Even eurotrance had unfortunately also started using the over sexualised videos by this time Xgk9ouBuj-4 #32 Don't remember this one, definitely not one of Fatboy's best imo. Great sing to remix but it could be livelier! I actually think Fatboy's new one Where You Iz is more mid 00s sounding than this, especially with the Shapeshifters/Freemasons style disco house production in parts! March 14, 20178 yr Sounds like Need To Feel Loved would have done better if released earlier, as if you were a bit sick of hearing it when it came out BillyH, I am sure a lot of other music buyers were too, hence it not going top 10.
March 14, 20178 yr Not really a big fan of the next dance number one compared to the dance number one after it!
March 14, 20178 yr Need To Feel Loved is probably my top 20 dance songs of alltime, pure bliss!! Delline Bass features on Superbass track called "New Life" which is really rare to find, so I decided to upload it onto my soundcloud, here's the link: https://soundcloud.com/jszmiles/superbass-new-life-feat Kinda brilliant track as well, in my opinion
