Remember that bitch of a social worker who took Lola's baby away from her? Yeah, she's returning.

In hindsight, I do have to agree. I've been re-watching her initial return recently and it seems fine until DTC took over as boss with the idea that she should become a villain. Before then, it seems fine as Ronnie deals with the backlash of her return and rebuilding her relationship with Roxy. In the real world, someone who did what Ronnie did would not have been welcomed back, probably at all, so it was good that the effort was made to ease her back in. Even the start of the feud with Carl was fine; it was only when she killed him when it was the point of no return and anything that happened afterwards would have eventually lead to another exit.

Various breaks and ping-pong-ing between extremely different character traits seemed to spoil the character even further, although I don't think I realised this until after DTC left because I remember being so shocked and a little bit emotional when it looked like Ronnie was about to die after New Year's Day 2015's car crash. I think that was probably because DTC had a tendency to drag things out and it was never really clear where anything was leading to, so I just assumed his plans for Ronnie would go somewhere.

It feels to me like Ronnie doesn't interact much with people outside of her family compared to other characters, so although it's not shown on screen perhaps in the square there would still be a bit of a backlash around her, I can imagine say someone new moving and someone else would tell them "that woman who lives there is a bit mad" or something.

But I do agree, her characterisation has been so off for the most part since she returned. She's definitely been on a downhill slope since they marred all efforts that she made to return to her normal life by having her kill Carl and turn into some gangster murdress with no heart. I think it would have been fine if they carried on like that then had her die in the crash last year, but this past year has just been me going off her more and more to the point where, as I said, I can't wait for her to leave! I think regardless a character like Ronnie is now who insists on acting like mother of the year would be annoying, but it's worse when it's nonsensical like this because she's one of the most flawed characters on the square (which takes some doing!!) who's done terrible things but she judges Roxy for the tiniest mistake just because she's now in her perfect unit with Jack.

That was quite a sweet episode, I love it when everyone was mucking in with the Xmas decorations in the Square.

And... I still can't figure how Lee and Whitney are going to do a whole xmas dinner for the Carter family in their flat in one dinky room

Ollie's first steps being him practically running down the street *_*

I mean I guess the episode was "nice" but that it makes for a boring watch when all of the episodes are like this. If it's not trivial stuff like a christmas tree it's Bex and Shakil sitting there not speaking.

Christmas Day will be amaze. Just look what we have to look forward to:

William and Janet opening presents that Billy and Honey were forced to make themselves.

Phil looking ever yellow.

Louise being worried about her dad's illness but Bex doesn't give a shit.

Jack and Ronnie screaming at out what a careless mother Roxy is because she's wearing odd socks.

Whitney making plans without once trying to consider how much money it will cost.

Mick trying to bring Christmas spirit with Johnny in the background doing his best breaking wind expression.

Max turning up with the ultimate revenge for Ian and Jane-probably something like cooking them a huge turkey.

Denise might give birth, I suppose...

Tree-gate and Bex/Shakil crap really strained my attention, but I did love the scenes decorating the square and, dare I say it, the ending. I imagine we'll have similar endings throughout the week, so suck it up! :D

Re: Denise, I'll spoiler tag so you can choose whether or not you want to know the birth date:

Friday 13th January. Quite iconic having Phil's baby born on 13th January tbh!!!

Also Sharon Marshall said on This Morning there's a big surprise twist that has been kept secret. I wonder if there's going to be a big return over Christmas? She certainly seemed to suggest that.

I heard that there was rumours going around that a surprise return was in store. People on other forums are yet again thinking it'll be Michelle (Sue Tully or a recast) because a woman appears with Stacey and Martin in the TV advert wearing a cardigan.

I can't think who would be likely to return. I'd say the person who is missing from the show right now is Lisa and I reckon Lucy Benjamin would be up for returning (IIRC, DTC never invited her back?).

Maybe Max and Tanya have reunited off screen? I would be great to have the Branning family unit rebuilt again.

Lisa is a good shout. There's definitely scope for her to return! They need to leave Michelle alone now, it would be too odd for her to come back at this point. DS just has an obsession with Michelle, but I doubt it will ever happen.

I'm not sure about a reunion between Tanya and Max but I think there's still space for a Tanya return anyway. I doubt it though as Jo Joyner seems to be getting work elsewhere, although I certainly wouldn't rule out a future return.

Can we just have another Christmas return for Kat and we can forget about the spin-off? :D

Lisa would be good. I feel it's quite unrealistic she's just given up her daughter for that mess of a family and never visit or pop up despite living close by! I guess Louise must go and see her at the weekend or something and that just isn't mentioned on screen. But with so many people leaving and Lucy Benjamin being happy to come back I don't see why not, especially as she obviously has ties to the show still. Knowing EE at the moment it will be someone random from 10 years ago with no connection to the soap currently like Demi Miller

Could it be Shenice's long awaited return?

The Michelle rumours aren't too out there tbh. I'd actually be more surprised if the woman in that pic isn't her given that it'll be happening in a few days and she seems really friendly/relaxed with Martin and Ian. I'm sure there's someone else it could be but I can't think. She gives me Carol Jackson teas but they surely wouldn't recast her.
