not sure how original it is to repeat what Daft Punk and Pharrell did 3 years ago already, that was original, doing a Get Lucky part 2 now, that's not very groundbreaking at all imho... good song, all you want, but an rnb singer collaborating with Daft Punk... done before...

They literally sound nothing alike? Get Lucky is a happy clappy (bordering on cheesy) song, and this is a dark and autumnal slow jam.

Weeknd has collaborated with loads of people, as have Daft Punk - same with half the chart. Why is this specifically "done before".

was just replying to someone saying the Weeknd deserved it more cos the song was more original than James Arthur

which I personally don't think it's the case

just cos a song is by a singer-songwriter and an acoustic guitar doesn't make it boring and unoriginal, but each to his/her own

Why is it such a problem for Spotify to report Thursday's streaming data in time for Friday afternoon's chart? Surely in this technological day and age it can't be that difficult!

And if they can't, wouldn't it make sense to delay the chart till Sunday to ensure it's actually correct?

Honestly 9 times out of 10, I doubt the data would make much difference to the final outcome of the chart. Sure, we've had instances where it notably has made a difference, but on your average week, you might get a few of the lower positions swapping or something but I wouldn't say it matters a great deal if a big hit from January is #177 instead of #176 :heehee: Most of the time we get an accurate estimation I would say! (having said this, I would prefer correct data, but they can't delay the chart just because Spotify are crap at reporting data on time)

The Weeknd now at #14 (+55)

Human at #31

Lady gaga up to #34 (video effect)

Country Forever #39

Kooks #40 (is it in an ad??)

new Chase & Status #51

I'd expect The Weeknd to have a massive impact this time tomorrow - it'll probably be advertised then, and as far as I'm aware there's nothing bigger out, so it'll be #1 on the Spotify new music playlist.

That segué's nicely onto my question of the week - what's out tomorrow that could do something in the iTunes top 40 :P

And if they can't, wouldn't it make sense to delay the chart till Sunday to ensure it's actually correct?

Agree with this! Chart worked better on Sunday and would ensure totally accurate streaming figures are reported. Unlikely they'd do it, but we can hope :)

still shocking how well James Arthur is doing, so well it almost makes no sense, there are much better songs by much better singer-songwriters with much more promo and radio support and they do barely nothing, was just listening to Tom Odell's Magnetised now, and for me that's 1000 times better than the James Arthur song (and I do genuinely like it), got tons of airplay and still only got to #40 on the charts :/

Tbh I think it's a bit lazy to call 'Starboy' a repeat of 'Get Lucky' simply because they're the two most recent Daft Punk hits (I know SB hasn't become a hit yet but it looks as though it will). As Joe said, they aren't even similar whereas 'Say You Won't Let Go' is lyrically and musically like 'Thinking Out Loud'. But that's just my view.

new Weeknd song is brilliant.

The Weeknd  #6

Edit. #5 now!

Aston Merrygold – I Ain't Missing You

(lol as if)

And Sean Smith (of Same Difference fame)'s 'Turn Me On'

Yeahhh can we not have this average Weeknd track clogging up the top for months, think I'd prefer James Arthur actually.
And Sean Smith (of Same Difference fame)'s 'Turn Me On'

maybe if enough people buy it mistakingly thinking Sam Smith had released a Kevin Lyttle cover version.

4. The Weeknd ft Daft Punk - Starboy

Combined, he's #4, #5 & #51 otherwise.
