Posted September 16, 20168 yr Okay, a few words: After many years of hard campaigning, live from the city of Kobbar in the north of Persephonia, we are proud to finally announce the BJSC Instrumentals spinoff! Here is a green room for any general discussion / hype ;o Important dates if all goes to plan: Confirmations Sat 17 Sep - Mon 26 Sep Voting Tue 27 Sep - Sun 9 Oct Results Mon 10 Oct Important rules: 1) The key to this spinoff, if you can't tell from the name of it, is that all entries must not have significant vocals - a word or two here and there won't get your entry thrown out but it must not have a substantial vocal hook or lyrics. Vocals along the lines of those in Martin Garrix's 'Animals' for example are about the acceptable limit 2) 'Standard' spinoff rules apply: i) No songs that have charted in the UK top 10 (songs that charted lower may still be vetoed if they are deemed to be too well-known, though the veto will be much less strict than in a standard contest) ii) No songs by artists who have artist forums on BuzzJack (good luck finding a song by one of those artists that passes rule 1 in the first place) iii) No songs that have previously appeared in the BuzzJack Song Contest or any of its spinoffs (useful link 1 / useful link 2, run a Ctrl+F through those threads if you're not sure) You can enter absolutely anything you want as long as it doesn't break those rules. This is not exclusively a dance music contest!!! - of course you are 100% free to send a dance song if you want, and many no doubt will, but don't be put off if you want to send a wordless piece of any other genre! It would be great to have a nice variety of sounds here :o A veto panel consisting of Persephonia (that's us x), and our friends in Syndare and one other currently yet to be determined nation (any volunteers?) Medhelnia will review all entries to ensure they are within these rules ~
September 16, 20168 yr Can I be on the veto panel? No problems if you don't trust me but I wouldn't mind helping. Excited for this!
September 16, 20168 yr Okay that first rule gave me tons more ideas but I do have one that's completely instrumental
September 16, 20168 yr SO HYPED *.* :cheer: I've been having a very instrumentally year in 2016 BJSC. As I said in the spinoff discussion thread, I plan on sending a Worldvision II reject to this as I don't know when else I would end up sending it. So banging Finnish instrumental coming up~
September 16, 20168 yr I have a very out-there choice I've had my mind set on for weeks now since this was becoming a reality, very excited to let a wider audience hear it!
September 16, 20168 yr I have a song that will either win for being so wacky or last for being so different!
September 16, 20168 yr oh yay I can finally enter one of those instrumentals I've been too afraid to send to BJSC as they rarely to well :heehee: not sending my original intented entry as it has those weird kind of distorted vocals and though you don't know what it's supposed to say I'm sure it breaks Rule 1. So I'm gonna send a song that reminds me a lot of Porter Robinson's Language. Top 10 a few years back anyone? :music:  Edited September 16, 20168 yr by Spandora's Boxx
September 16, 20168 yr Author I THINK I know what I'm sending to this (as it's a song I wanted to send to the main contest but don't think I'll get around to it, and I feel it might be better appreciated in a spinoff anyway). Still might change my mind over the next week though ~ so many choices!! x I'm not expecting turnout to be as great for this as for other recent spinoffs btw (I promise I won't be offended if people sit this one out... no really, it's fine :snif:) so it's very likely/possible that it will be using the 12 point system! (Probably unless we get to 35+ entries). I might harass subtly prod some people who may be interested in this who don't usually enter the spinoffs
September 16, 20168 yr I have so much choice for this lmao, I will be bookmarking this spin off for sure *.* Wanna go for something NOT in the dance genre (and I do hope some others do as well), just to stop all those typecasting this as a dance spin off ^_^ It's from an artist I've sent before to another song contest and it's a wonderfully epic piece that has more than a hint of M83 in it despite not being by them (they are a thing after all x)
September 16, 20168 yr I have a 'hard trance' song that instantly comes to mind when I think of amazing instrumentals that are barely known so I think I'll be sending that! Yes it's dance but not what you typically get in BJSC.
September 16, 20168 yr I am really going to have to think. I don't think I've shortlisted an instrumental potential for quite a while. But I'll definitely be eager to start looking for one. (also YES PLEASE @ hard trance)
September 16, 20168 yr I have a song I was planning on sending to the mian contest I might as well chuck into this. Has a kind of LotR/GoT epicness to it, so will likely stick out and flop, but I was never gonna do wel in this kind of theme that will be very dance heavy.
September 17, 20168 yr might consider resurrecting pagasa from bjsc purgatory w/ some post-rock here, have to look thru my itunes library tho edit: since it's an instrumental contest i imagine there will be some longer tracks but what is the longest you'll accept? i'm trying to shoot for 7 minutes which seems ok? September 17, 20168 yr Now I'm actually spoiled for choice because I found a few synthwave songs that fit the "Halloween spin-off entry" aesthetic very well
September 17, 20168 yr Yeah there's always some success for mysterious/fantasy-type (not Sokko and Alexa Lusader, I mean the genre) songs, as we saw with Monody and now Scope.
September 17, 20168 yr I doubt we'll fit in Hallowe'en this year so don't worry about saving a song for that!
