Winners trying to reclaim their ESC crown rarely works unless your name is Johnny Logan.

Because he was such an exciting musical prospect. One two-time winner is not enough to say no more will ever come, particularly as it's so long ago.

Besides, we're probably not looking to win, just get a decent result. Only one country can win it so to go in looking for that at this stage is a bit forward. And I've never believed that Emmelie would actually think about representing us, just probably has a connection to one of the songs.

I think the only way Emmelie would go for representing the UK is if they offered her the job, not to compete among 5 other nobodies. So there's no way she's participating as a singer.
I wasn't a massive fan of "Only Teardrops", but it was a deserving winner back in Malmo. I'm optimistic of at least ONE decent entry. I would like to see UK deliver an electro, icy pop banger, but I don't envisage it sadly...

She's responsible for this ANTHEM though:

(Still maintain that would've gone top 10 in Stockholm, it was so made for a Eurovision stage it can't be ignored)

Hi everyone - first time poster here. Great forum btw :)

Hopefully on Monday we'll have at least one good song. Sadly I'll be working and miss the radio 2 show but will catch it as soon as I can afterwards.

Are we hopeful?

Welcome to the forum :cheer: I remain optimistic of a better selection than last year as I think all the signs point towards it with the songwriting camps and the venue/channel upgrades making it look like the BBC are making an increased effort. Setting my alarm for 9:25 tomorrow anyway so we shall see!

I'm in work tomorrow but hopefully I can sly in the earphones.

Yeah I think it will be overall a better standard than last year, although I'm not expecting a song that's going to get us in contention for top 5 or anything. My ranking of last year's songs in the end would be as follows:

Joe and Jake 9/10

Darline 8/10

Bianca 7.5/10

Dulcima 5.5/10

Karl 5/10

Matthew 2/10

I shall rate tomorrow's efforts at some point and then compare the two!

Compared to all those other successful winners of the last few years that have carved out massive careers!

That's why I said successful rather than massive :P Most other winners at least achieve some kind of longevity in their home country whereas it seems she has not - The plus is if she represents us would be 12 points from Dennark rather than a Brexit 0.

Perhaps a sign that the quality will be a bit higher is that none of the songs that was submitted publicly and shortlisted by OGAE have made it to the final 6 this year apparently. One made it to the final 15 but no further. Last year 1 of the finalists was an OGAE pick, Karl if I remember rightly or was it Matthew?
Not that I imagine it would happen but its something she should be considering. She's obviously going nowhere else with her career after Back To You peaked after the first day of release so give her a Swedish pop track and some loud backing vocalists and she would be perfect for it and could really benefit. You never know, a Swedish label could pick her up like they did with Margaret and Cool Me Down. There's no reason why someone like Mollie couldn't do what Margaret has achieved over the last year.
It would be SUCH a British thing if we had Mollie with a banger that everyone loves but she still comes 2nd to some pretty boy who can barely hold a tune

Obviously not what we hope it's going to be but the apparently reliable Digital Spy leaker says Saara was approached to sing one of the songs but the X Factor tour fell right where they would be doing promotion so we assume it didn't work out. Apparently Hugh Goldsmith (who finds the UK songs) and Cowell are good friends though.

On a more likely note, perhaps she has been invited to the Finnish final happening the day after ours?
