Meteorite is a really great track, it really should have been UK Top 40 :(

Should've Been Me & Water Under the Bridge are both great future smashes, and Girl Is Mine is an amazing dance track from the start of the year! :music:

Hiya again

Yay at Should've Been Me making an impact in such a short space of time, it hit pretty immediately and it is really catchy. A bit gutted it isn't picking up any chart momentum but hoping it can be another hit for him after Xmas dies down, not getting my hopes too high though :( Big shame as it's definitely one of his best track yet as you say!

Also a huge fan of the 99 Souls track, who imagined Destiny's Child getting a 2016 top 10 hit :o The blend of the two tracks so well and it's very well produced as well as mixed. Shame they haven't had a track since after such a promising start with this mash up :(

Cool Girl and The Girl Is Mine, proper choons :dancing: :music:

Should've Been Me is another good effort from Naughty Boy, shame it doesn't seem to be doing anything (yet).

Thanks Dan! :D Should've Been Me will hopefully take off in the new year, fingers crossed anyway!

Thanks Pete! :D I agree that Meteorite should've gone top 40, the very least it deserves! Really confused as to how it didn't manage it tbh :(

Hey Josh! Thanks once again :D

Should've Been Me was definitely instant for me! Hoping it can pick up in the new year alongside a few other tracks, it's got such a refreshing feel to it.

I loved seeing Destiny's Child and Brandy back in the UK top 10! *.* Such an inspired song really, who'd have thought those two songs would go so well together?! :o It's a shame 99 Souls seem likely to be a one-hit wonder at this rate :(

161 After Romeo - Pull Over (feat. Silentó) - 31-31-30-9-14-24-… (6+ weeks)

162 Banks - Fuck with Myself - 12-23-25-39-X (4 weeks)

163 Reed Deming - Take You Out - 32-5-11-23-32-X (5 weeks)

164 Jonas Blue - Fast Car (feat. Dakota) - 10-13-32-X (3 weeks)

165 George Shelley - 360 - 8-… (1+ weeks)

166 R5 - Smile - 3-14-29-X (3 weeks)

167 Gabrielle Aplin - Miss You - 24-8-14-… (3+ weeks)

168 Robin Schulz - Sugar (feat. Francesco Yates) - 23-17-24-29-35-X (5 weeks)

169 Benjamin - Sing It To You Anyway - n/a

170 Møtions & Michael Schulte - Money on Me - 4-… (1+ weeks)

Two songs from this section made their debuts in the final chart week of the eligibility period, and we see the first at #170. Michael Schulte is a bit of a chart veteran for me, achieving two #1s over 2013 and 2014 with Jump Before We Fall and Rock & Scissors. Money On Me sees him collaborate with DJ duo Møtions for a great dance track. I've rejigged the order of this since I compiled it initially, which is why that #4 hit is below the #8 hit 360 by George Shelley, which may have debuted lower but has held up a bit more since then, leading it to end up 5 places higher in my EOY.

Money On Me is the lowest top 5 hit in my countdown, partly down to its recentness, and we also see the lowest top 3 hit in this section, courtesy of mixed gender group R5 with their hit Smile. The song is a really catchy pop track, a bit cheesy in places but it's fun. It did however tail off quickly, spending only 3 weeks in my top 40 despite peaking all the way up at #3. Yet another top 5 hit also appears in this section, and it's courtesy of Reed Deming, who sadly seems to be living up to the theory of diminishing returns. His first chart hit Crash Test Dummy (Broken) was a #1 hit in my chart and got to #3 EOY in 2014. The follow-up Satellites was his highest song last year at EOY #59, and Take You Out is his only charting track in my EOY this year, over 100 places lower than Satellites managed. It's a fun track nonetheless, something Reed is always capable of!

From top 5 hits to a song that never charted - Benjamin's Sing It To You Anyway is at #169. It's one of a few tracks from his debut album Fingerprints to appear in my EOY, so expect more appearances from him for certain! Robin Schulz makes his first appearance in one of my EOYs at #168 with Sugar, featuring the lush vocals of Francesco Yates, who is definitely one to watch this next year. Robin's just scored his first #1 in my chart with Shed a Light, so maybe he can do even better next year? Banks also features with F**k With Myself, the final non-top 10 of this section, and her only entry in the top 250.

Gabrielle Aplin was one of the biggest names during 2013 in my chart, notching up three top 10s and a massive #1 album. Her second album failed to recreate this last year however, giving no top 10 hits, or even any top 20s. Miss You however jumped right into the top 10 for a week last month, becoming her highest charting single since #5 hit Panic Cord! Jonas Blue makes only one appearance in my top 250, with #10 hit Fast Car. The song in question however will feature once more with the superior Tobtok cover which is still to come! Finally, boyband After Romeo bow out at #161, with their Silentó-assisted Pull Over. The song is heaps of fun and incredibly catchy, definitely their best track.

Recommendation

Funny, I know a lot more songs in the 180-171 batch than the 170-161 batch! hah.

180 | Dami Im - "Sound of Silence"

Should have won Eurovision and I'm still bitter over it even though I didn't hate Ukraine's entry. That performance was just perfection! Amaaazing.

179 | Olly Murs - "You Don't Know Love"

Olly usually has one song in each era that I absolutely LOVE and for this one it seems this is it. I love the 80's synth and just everything about this song. Absolute smash.

177 | Bebe Rexha ft. Nicki Minaj - "No Broken Hearts"

Although I am a huge fan of Bebe and Nicki is usually great I am not a big fan of this one. It's just kind of average to me. Don't hate it but certainly don't love it either.

176 | Years & Years - "Meteorite"

One of the songs that deserved so smash this year but didn't. Y&Y have been very consistent in releasing amazing music in my opinion and this is no exception. Loved it.

174 | 99 Souls ft. Brandy & Destiny's Child - "The Girl Is Mine"

What a bop! Seriously. Taking these two classics and mixing them together like this was genius and deservedly so it was a hit. I love it.

173 | Tove Lo - "Cool Girl"

Underrated queen of 2016 for sure. Tove is amazing and this is easily one of the top songs of 2016 for me. Criminal that it failed to reach the Top 40 and this time it was ITUNES SALES that were at fault!

172 | Adele - "Water Under The Bridge"

My second favorite Adele song from her newest album. Only 'Send My Love' triumphs this one for me. Not a huge fan though, I just like it.

171 | Naughty Boy ft. Kyla & Popcaan - "Should've Been Us"

I so love this and the reggae feel of it! Naughty Boy really is great at being such a music chameleon and I hope we'll hear more of this sound from him. Also really hope this climbs higher in the new year!

168 | Robin Schulz ft. Francesco Yates - "Sugar"

I loved this at first but grew tired of it really quickly. I love the video and the song itself is really good but it just got overplayed to death here in Iceland.

167 | Gabrielle Aplin - "Miss You"

So glad to see her return but I'm sad she's not very relevant to the public anymore. This a great comeback single and I really can't stop playing it.

164 | Jonas Blue ft. Dakota - "Fast Car"

Not as good as the follow-up but this definitely set the tone to what we could expect from one of this year's best producers. Definitely a contender for the best newcomer.

 I noticed that there were a lot more chart hits in the #171-180 section actually! :heehee: Thanks for all the comments once again!

180. I agree that Dami should've won Eurovision out of the biggest contenders, I didn't really like the Ukrainian entry :(

179. You Don't Know Love seems very popular amongst Buzzjack posters but the UK public didn't seem to get it so much

173. Definitely deserved to be top 40 at the absolute minimum! A real shame :(

You liked Fast Car? At least you still have Tobtok to come and acknowledge that it's the superior cover, that's good.

Banks appearing here is good, although I don't actually know that particular track.

Hymn For The Weekend looks to be the best track I can see, yes at you liking a Coldplay track finally :kink:

Artists

8 Fifth Harmony

Now to the first artist in my countdown to have actually put out an album this year! Fifth Harmony are an American girl group made up of Camila Cabello, Dinah Jane, Normani Kordei, Lauren Jauregui and Ally Brooke Hernandez, and they were put together on The X Factor USA during season 2. I only watched a little bit of that season but I thought they were pretty decent on the show. I never for one moment thought they'd actually achieve much success though!

I heard Miss Movin' On when they released that, and it got to #16 in my chart, which isn't bad but it's their lowest peaking single to date, and their only single to miss my top 10. Reflection, their first album, proved to be a success in my chart last year, reaching #1 and spawning three top 10 singles - BO$$ (#1), Sledgehammer (#10) and Worth It (#7). Naturally, I was very excited as to how they'd follow this up. Camila's feature on Shawn Mendes' I Know What You Did Last Summer gave her another top 10 in the mean time, reaching #5, although I think both Shawn and Camila are capable of better.

When Work from Home was announced earlier this year, I was excited and very keen to listen, although I did not expect it to be as good as it was. It hit me instantly, with its slick production, catchy lyrics and top notch music video. I remember being incredibly excited when it entered the top 40 in the chart show play zone (top 25) at #23, and whilst I loved the track, I didn't expect it to climb to the top 10 as quickly as it did! Work from Home definitely ended up as one of the surprise huge smashes of the year, but it was totally deserved.

The follow-up single All In My Head (Flex) leaked a week or so before the album, it sounded good and continued to grow on me (not as good as its predecessor though), so my hype for the album 7/27 was high. It most certainly didn't disappoint either, being an incredibly strong pop album, packed with hits. I loved seeing them live in October too, whilst their show was a tad low budget and they weren't even close to selling out the O2 Arena, it was lots of fun and they most certainly have strong enough material to put on a great show. Really excited as to what they'll do in their next era!

I did like it! :o I got very bored of it in the chart I must admit, while Tobtok held up much more in my affections, but it's not a bad cover at all imo :kink:

Definitely check it out! Her new album is really solid actually, shout out to Trainwreck too

Who says I only like artists I like, eh? :D Thanks Iz!!

Sound Of Silence should have won Eurovision really. She gave such a brilliant performance of it. It's my 3rd favourite Eurovision song this year behind Bulgaria and Azerbaijan.

You Don't Know was a very solid track from Olly. His last 3 lead singles have all been very good (Wrapped Up, Kiss Me & this) but I haven't liked anything else from him.

Oops is brilliant. One of the best on the album. Loved the performance on X Factor too.

No Broken Hearts is awful :( I was excited to hear it as I like her when she's featured on songs but this is a real disappointment.

The Girl Is Mine  I have to agree that it was genius mixing those songs together.

Quick catch up!

Don't Worry 💖💖💖💖 Easily in my top 5 of the year and a big potential for my top song of 2016, pure pop amazingness *.*

Sound Of Silence and You Don't Know Love are also 11/10 and loving Oops and the Fifth Harmony artist inclusion

It's my fourth favourite of the year, we still have Sweden, Lithuania and the UK to come in my countdown! But out of the huge contenders on the night, Dami definitely deserved the win :(

A lot of people seem quite disappointed in No Broken Hearts and I can't argue really, I expect she's capable of better!

Thanks Lewis :D

151 Dreezy - Body (feat. Jeremih) - 15-9-15-22-26-X (5 weeks)

152 Kygo - Fiction (feat. Tom Odell) - 36-12-16-18-21-28-X (6 weeks)

153 Meghan Trainor - Me Too - 21-9-11-14-22-27-30-38-X (8 weeks)

154 Gwen Stefani - Make Me Like You - 5-8-18-31-X (4 weeks)

155 Avicii & Conrad Sewell - Taste the Feeling - 32-X-10-14-11-22-38-X (6 non-consecutive weeks)

156 Katy Perry - Rise - 13-5-16-29-X (4 weeks)

157 David Guetta - Bang My Head (feat. Sia & Fetty Wap) - 10-11-14-26-36-X (5 weeks)

158 The Beach - Geronimo - 6-15-30-X (3 weeks)

159 James Bay - If You Ever Want To Be In Love - 40-39-X-40-X-26-16-13-10-16-22-39-X (10 non-consecutive weeks)

160 Henrik Høven - Move - 12-6-15-32-X (4 weeks)

Now we've reached a sea of top 10 hits! Expect most sections to be like this going forward now, non-top 10s will be more scarce. The only non-top 10 in this section comes from Kygo in collaboration with Tom Odell. Both artists have reached the top end of my EOY before, with Tom making it as high as #5 with Another Love in 2013, and Kygo getting to #15 last year with Conrad Sewell collaboration Firestone. Fiction had me excited and it definitely didn't disappoint, shame it wasn't picked as a single in favour of Raging which I was less keen on! :( Both artists will feature again later in the countdown! Speaking of Conrad, he swapped DJs this year and collaborated with Avicii on Coca-Cola advert song Taste the Feeling, which made my top 10 and features right in the middle of this section. Conrad appears once more, while this is Avicii's only entry.

Back to the bottom of the section, we see relatively unknown artist Henrik Høven (what a name), with pop jam Move. I initially considered it for BJSC in the 88th contest, but ended up plumping for Ryan Lawrie with If Only, which is much higher in the countdown. I also considered sending Geronimo by The Beach in the 86h contest, and was dead set on sending it actually until Maty Noyes released In My Mind. Geronimo is a nice feel-good acoustic pop track, definitely intrigued as to what else we'll hear from The Beach soon! The Beach (a solo singer/songwriter, not a group) actually supported Tom Odell on his recent tour (although sadly not on the date I went), and he's just above Tom's old support act James Bay. James dominated last year with debut album Chaos and the Calm, and continued to promote it this year, scoring his fifth top 10 hit with If You Ever Want to Be in Love (and a sixth with Running later on).

A couple of chart hits pop up in the middle, with David Guetta making his second appearance of two. Bang My Head features Sia and Fetty Wap, both of whom have other songs higher up in the countdown. Katy Perry's Rise also appears, sadly it was quite underwhelming for a brand new Katy single but it's nice nonetheless and managed to become a top 5 hit on an incredibly competitive week (it was out the same week as Britney's Make Me, 5SOS's Girls Talk Boys and Hailee Steinfeld's Starving, all of which charted above it).

Three more top 10s close out the section, the first of which comes from Gwen Stefani. She's undoubtedly brought some pop jams in the past, with songs like What You Waiting For?, Rich Girl, Hollaback Girl and The Sweet Escape, and Make Me Like You is definitely worthy of being up with them, so it's a shame that radio totally blanked the obvious hit potential this has. Meghan Trainor's second album made less of an impact on my chart than her first did, although she still scored two top 10s, and the first of which is here. Me Too divides opinion but I've always found it really fun. She still has NO and album track Kindly Calm Me Down to appear. Finally, urban bop Body by rapper Dreezy is at the top of the section. Body is incredibly catchy and sexy, and she works really well with Jeremih. It matched the chart peak of Jeremih's only other chart hit - Somebody by Natalie La Rose, which also got to #9. Dreezy will be appearing once more, as part of AlunaGeorge's Mean What I Mean.

Hi Joseph

omg flop KP mod though, not even top 100 :') Rise really was not all that great and I've almost forgotten how it even goes just a few months after its release. I've got faith she's going to really come back with something amazing like Roar, don't want her to do a Britney :/

IYEWTBIL has always been my highlight of James Bay's career so was delighted when it was announced as a single. He definitely works best imo at a more uptempo than his ballads. Hoping he comes back with a bang soon and another huge era is on the cards for him.

5H would be really high for me too if I had an artist countdown I think, their singles run especially has been outstanding. Both Work From Home and Flex were huge smashes on my chart and That's My Girl isn't half bad either. Loving their output at the moment and their solo ventures have been stellar so far too, would love for Bad Things to blow up in the new year

:D

Avicii slaying that top 200 position *_* shame it's with one of his worst songs but whatever. I hope he comes back with a proper jam next year, I hear he's been working on album #3

I had forgotten about 'Rise' tbh. Listening to it now, it still has that grand, theatrical sound that is perfect to soundtrack something like the Olympics but, away from that, it's not too memorable and I wouldn't be surprised at all for this to remain a standalone single.

'Make Me Like You' was a great return for Gwen. Not in the same league as those songs you mentioned ('What You Waiting For?' and 'Rich Girl' are tied for my favourite) but it says more about them than it does about 'Make Me Like You'. I remember Radio 1 gave it a few spins at the time and I got so excited in hope that they'd playlist it. Of course, they didn't, but I think it would have slotted in well. It's the perfect pop record with signature Gwen vocals and personality and I think Gwen is still considered somewhat cool by our generation. Definitely one of the underrated songs to pass the chart environment by and fits into the category of "would have been a hit if released by someone current".
