I'm curious about your thoughts on WTM's collab with Steve Aoki
I don't love it but I like it, wouldn't have minded it being their follow-up smash!

Okay three more "late arrivals" to this thread, I'll keep it brief so we can move on to the next segment #hype

Amine "Caroline"

31lxvXJ41AL._SS300.jpg

I heard a clip of this and thought it sounded brilliant, but then heard it in full and the rest of the song wasn't as good. It's very different though and stands out in a great way, so I'm happy to see it do well. I love the production and the mix of rapping and singing. No song about Caroline will ever compare to "Roses" by Outkast though

Big Sean "Bounce Back"

BigSeanBounceBack.jpg

Can't say I was a fan of Big Sean's last few singles, so "Bounce Back" is a fitting name as he bounces back into my affections. The chorus is full of wordplay with things that bounce back, which works so well it should be a Family Fortunes question.

Machine Gun Kelly feat. Camila Cabello "Bad Things"

http://www.kissradio.ca/wp-content/uploads/sites/6/2016/12/machine-gun-300x300.jpg

The chorus of "Bad Things" samples one of my absolute favorite 90s songs, "Out Of My Head" by Fastball, so I kind of love this by default because it is a wonderful sample. If only I liked either of these artists  MGK is local to me but otherwise there's nothing special about him, and I've always thought Camila was annoying and wondered why she gets more attention than the rest of Fifth Harmony. So basically I'd rather just listen to "Out Of My Head".

TOP 5 CONCERTS FROM 2016

LAST PLACE: Elle King

http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l219/Yoshi538/DSC02262_1.jpg

Don't get me wrong, Elle's a good singer and we didn't know how she would sound live because her voice is so raspy. She might only have one hit but there's three more that most casual fans would at least recognize ("America's Sweetheart", "Under The Influence", "Good Girls") and she didn't perform ANY of them. Maybe most people didn't care as long as they got to hear "Ex's & Oh's", but I was definitely disappointed. That turquoise hair tho >>>

5. X Ambassadors

http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l219/Yoshi538/DSC02230.jpg

Ever since "Renegades" I have been loving X Ambassadors, and the main reason they're not higher than #5 is that I missed the beginning of their set! I did get to hear "Renegades", "Unsteady" and "Low Life" though so all was well. They're great live performers and the lead singer actually plays a lot of trumpet! They also played "Jungle" which I was never a fan of when it was first released, but it sounds SO much better live, probably the highlight of their set so I give them a lot of credit for winning me over!

4. Andy Grammer

http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l219/Yoshi538/DSC02266.jpg

I wasn't expecting Andy to be a fan of the loop pedal but he used it a lot, especially on a cover of Jason Derulo's "Trumpets" which would win over even the strongest opponents of that song! Andy and his band are also all about the choreography, and although they danced more than they needed to I couldn't help but be impressed. After the show I watched him do an interview from outside a radio station's tent, and at the end he went around to everyone standing by the barricades so everyone could get a picture with him. But my phone camera at the time was crap so I tried using an actual camera just hoping I could aim correctly, and I ended up not holding the button down long enough so I don't have a picture after all  :nocheer:

3. Dierks Bentley

http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l219/Yoshi538/IMG_0087.jpg

Had I done this countdown for 2015, Dierks would've been #1 or #2. We had very good seats and he did a few songs on a separate stage that was such a short distance from our row that I got really good pictures. Plus Dierks is at the point where he can just about fit all of his hits onto the set list, so everyone knows all the songs and it's easy to sing along. So this was my fourth Dierks concert and we were further back this time (this picture is from 2015), plus the set list wasn't quite as good due to a few too many new songs (his new album's actually kinda bad :() which meant some big ones were left out. Still a great night though and the main reason he's not higher is a testament to the strength of the top 2!

2. The Lumineers

http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l219/Yoshi538/20160920_223054.jpg

I had the most amazing luck getting to see Walk The Moon in Nashville a year ago, and hoped for the same luck when I went back in September and The Lumineers were playing. Well, it worked! (Although I wasn't in the first ten rows this time.) The venue is nice and new, an outdoor ampitheater right on the river with beautiful views of the city at night, and the weather was absolutely perfect for an outdoor concert. They were just as good as I imagined. It was frustrating that nearly half of the people left after "Ho Hey", which was only a half hour into their set. :drama: Their loss I guess. The band told the stories behind a lot of their songs, and then 'Stubborn Love' of course was the highlight

1. Florence + The Machine

http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l219/Yoshi538/maxresdefault.jpg

(This one's definitely not my photo :P) So my cousin surprised me with Florence tickets because she happened to be coming to town on my birthday weekend, and I never thought I'd get a chance to see her live so this was absolutely amazing and exciting. I couldn't get any of my own pictures though because the show was outdoors and it was RAINING!!! Believe it or not, the rain made the night even more magical, especially since she opened with 'What The Water Gave Me' :cheeseblock:

I just love how powerful Florence's voice is when she sings, and then in between songs she talks so softly that you can barely hear what she's saying. I can't say the set list was perfect, it got rather dull in the middle with a few too many slow songs in a row but it made me want to hear my fave 'Queen Of Peace' and then BAM that was the next song. *.* She sang my other fave 'Cosmic Love' too so I was happy. 'Dog Days Are Over' was saved for last and deservedly so, the rain stopped just in time for it too. And then the encore was 'What Kind Of Man' followed by 'Drumming Song'. So congrats Florence + The Machine for the best concert of 2016. I hope there's someone equally amazing on my birthday weekend this year, and actually my birthday's on a Wednesday so I'll have two different weekends to pick from! :D

Okay, fingers crossed actual EOY countdown will actually start this weekend xx

Really nice feature there Jord :o surprised that Elle King didn't perform Under the Influence or America's Sweetheart, that's really strange and I'd be disappointed if I went to see her. Definitely should've nabbed this feature for my own EOY but I always find it quite tough to be too critical of concerts tbh :kink:

Magnets, Middle, Capsize, Never Be Like You, Sugar, Just Like Fire. Lots of good hits you've selected.

Might do a scorecard of the Riser Recaps songs I've heard soon.

I'm starting the countdown now if you'd rather go through my top 60 instead!

http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l219/Yoshi538/600d68c2-2a69-4439-85c9-d46b3a319065.jpg

60. Rihanna “Needed Me”

59. The Strumbellas “Spirits”

58. Ty Dolla $ign feat. E-40 “Saved”

Can’t say I ever expected to like a Ty Dolla $ign song, aside from “Drop That Kitty” I suppose. “Saved” doesn’t even seem that spectacular but for a few months I’d hear it almost every day on my way home and always turned it up loud. Combination of a really good hook in the chorus and the always dependable DJ Mustard on production duties.

57. Rihanna “Love On The Brain”

56. Nick Jonas feat. Ty Dolla Sign “Bacon”

55. Dierks Bentley “Somewhere On A Beach”

Of course there’s always room for my favorite artist in my EOY, but his sole appearance comes rather early this year. Dierks’ promo for this song included posting his phone number, letting his fans leave voicemails while he was vacationing “somewhere on a beach”, and giving a select few a call back. I was not one of those few but hopefully he really heard me spill my praise

54. Usher “Crash”

After a few failed comeback singles, “Crash” was an unexpected return to form and VERY much love on first listen, but possibly *too* instant as I played it to death the first night and it didn’t grow back. :( Finally now I’m enjoying it again, shame this missed the UK top 40 and was completely overshadowed by “No Limit” in the US. Top 10 in Australia was a nice consolation.

53. Joseph “White Flag”

Following in the footsteps of fellow sister acts First Aid Kit and Haim, yes Joseph is not a male solo artist but a group of three girls. Their voices are great together and “White Flag” is wonderfully catchy. It goes to show there’s still a place for the handclapping and footstomping songs that were much more prevalent a few years ago.

52. Sia feat. Sean Paul “Cheap Thrills”

It came close but overplay could not quite ruin this song. For Sia to be in her 40s and earn the biggest hit of her career, especially #1 in America, was nothing short of sensational. Can’t wait to see how it holds up over time and whether it ends up a defining hit of its time. It’s not Sia’s highest song on this countdown though…

51. Lauren Alaina “Road Less Traveled”

Lauren never really got the support she deserved for an American Idol runner-up, back when that actually meant something, so I kinda assumed she was dropped, which would’ve been a shame since she’s still so young. Was very glad to see her back at it this year, especially THIS song which was entirely worth the wait and is helping Lauren finally release her second album over five years after her debut! It turns out “Road Less Traveled” was written all the way back in 2013 and Meghan Trainor co-wrote it! I’m expecting to hear this a lot in 2017 as it continues to become a proper hit, so hopefully it’ll be higher on next year’s EOY!

Hey Jordan! What I'm liking/loving from this page:

'Cheap Thrills', 'Crash' (this had slipped my mind, haven't heard it for a few months - it's definitely one of his best *.*), 'Bacon', 'Love On The Brain', 'Needed Me'.

Hyped for your Top 50! :cheer:

Cheap Thrills was improved so much by the addition of Sean Paul I think, made it a fun listen even with so much overexposure!

Yay at my Dido cover being at #53 *_*

50. Alan Walker “Faded”
This seemed like one of those rare hits that everyone could agree with, and deservedly so—gems like this don’t turn up very often. Surely “Faded” was way bigger than its #7 peak suggests, but that’s better than it peaking at #80 in America. I managed to hear it a few times in real life which cemented my love for this song.

49. Banks “Trainwreck”

I was so hyped for Banks when she was first premiering tracks from her debut, and then everything since had disappointed me. Nevertheless, it was suggested that I give The Altar a chance, and lo and behold it DOES live up to her potential! “Trainwreck” was by far the highlight with a killer chorus.

48. Martin Garrix & Bebe Rexha “In The Name Of Love”
It took a couple tries but Martin proved he can “go pop” without sounding entirely generic. I’m very much in favor of Bebe’s high notes but can understand what a turn-off they’d be for others, lol. “Animals” and “Take Me Home” still edge this for me, though.

47. Alessia Cara “I’m Yours”

If you like Alessia this is a must-see!!! I was watching all of her music videos one night and “I’m Yours” stood out as one that would make a great single (which of course means it won’t happen). The lyrics are very clever with her complaining about loving someone and having to be happy now instead of stuck in her misery. And the video is just her getting chased by a guy with a mustache, a brilliant low-budget affair probably filmed in an amazing Canadian neighborhood *.* Never change, Alessia

46. Empire Of The Sun “Walking On A Dream”

A big surprise this was, I mean America is usually several months late to most hit songs but watching a several YEARS old song become a hit is especially remarkable. “Walking On A Dream” was on a car advert early last year and got a surprising reaction on iTunes, resulting in a few weeks on the Hot 100 and radio DJs telling listeners it wasn’t actually a new song when they played it. Back in the day I much preferred “We Are The People” and thought this was weak in comparison, but after hearing it on the radio now I wish it had been popular all along.

45. Meghan Trainor “No”
The 90s invasion continued with Meghan ditching the doo-wop sound and incorporating some turn-of-the-millennium influence for her sophomore album. I would say “No” unfairly stalled just as it was becoming massive—the #11 UK peak was especially frustrating—but personally I got bored of it quickly and didn’t mind it plummeting on airplay afterward. I appreciated the nostalgic feels though!!

44. Flume feat. Kai “Never Be Like You”

43. Daya “Sit Still, Look Pretty”

42. X Ambassadors “Unsteady” / “Unsteady (Erich Lee Gravity Remix)”

“Unsteady” literally took the entire year to run its course as a single; I first heard it in December 2015 and it only recently peaked at #20 on the Hot 100, giving X Ambassadors two top-20 hits (three if you count “Sucker For Pain”) which is quite the achievement for any band that’s not Maroon 5. Anyway, it’s rather hit-and-miss as a song but the remix linked here is far more powerful thanks to an orchestra accompaniment. I’d rate it somewhere between :cheeseblock: and :shakingcheeseblock:.

41. Calvin Harris “My Way”
What can I say, I tend to prefer Calvin singing his own songs because I really like his voice. Despite this song continuing his trend-chasing habits, “My Way” at least has a sense of originality to it, unlike the unnecessary single that preceded it. Unfortunately it falls just short of the top 40, so who was the one thing in his way?

I must've completely missed Walking on a Dream blowing up Stateside :o I LOVED that back in the day and was sad it never really did anything in the UK, We Are The People was good but not quite on the same scale. Much love for Faded as well <3

Been great to read through the recaps, I will have to respectfully disagree with you on Out of the Woods though, that's by far my favourite Taylor song, the chorus is such a WOW moment!

^ YASSS CHEZ, PREACH etc etc. What a spectacle of a pop song . That chorus *.* that middle-8 *.* that '...OH I REMEMBERRR' part *.*.*.* Been trying my best thus far but perhaps I'll finally make him see one day~ :snif:

...Hi Jord :D, prepare yourself for a double helping of :cheeseblock: ;o

47. Alessia Cara “I’m Yours”

And the video is just her getting chased by a guy with a mustache, a brilliant low-budget affair probably filmed in an amazing Canadian neighborhood *.* Never change, Alessia heart.gif

Seems you may have missed the video description as it's even better than that!

"creepy man in a tree: casual Sunday. that's my brother playing the unwanted love interest lol. thanks dario

directed by: Alessia Caracciolo"

!

Also, 'Trainwreck' has visuals as of today (and they somehow manage to do it justice omggg)

What a babe <3

40. Fever High “Tantalized”

I found this song on another forum as an answer to what was the song of the summer, and it intrigued me because every other song mentioned was actually popular. Needless to say it was very much worth checking out, I love duos and “Tantalized” is definitely good enough to be a proper summer smash. I especially love the video! It was quite the dilemma deciding whether to send this to Unknown Pleasures or BJSC; I opted for the former and ended up winning a tie-breaker for 2nd place! I’m so happy to now have a 1st place in Nuggets, a 2nd place in Unknown Pleasures, and two top 10s in BJSC to my name.

39. Brett Eldredge “Drunk On Your Love”

If the name is familiar, Brett was #23 on my EOY last year with “Lose My Mind”, the lead single to his second album Illinois. “Drunk On Your Love” is the follow-up, equally short and simple allowing his voice to take the forefront.

38. The Naked And Famous “Higher”

I’m so glad Cody sent this to BJSC, because I’d written it off after one listen and probably wouldn’t have given it another chance otherwise. It’s really not as good as they’re capable of, though. And I’m very upset that there’s no video for it, because “Young Blood” and “Hearts Like Ours” are genuinely two of my favorite videos (and songs) of all time! :(

37. Shawn Mendes “Mercy”
Preparing for the wrath of Joseph as I reveal that this is Shawn’s only entry this year, after “Stitches” was my #3 song of 2015. “Treat You Better” and “I Know What You Did Last Summer” just never quite did it for me, but “Mercy” is one heck of a ballad, and could’ve finished higher if it hadn’t been left so late in the year.

36. Sia feat. Kendrick Lamar “The Greatest”
I went rock climbing with my family a couple months ago and this was our motivation song, which definitely proved effective. As much as I prefer Sia standing out rather than trying to fit in, “The Greatest” is one of my faves of hers now.

35. Frenship & Emily Warren “Capsize”

34. Zayn “Like I Would”
My favorite of Zayn’s by far! Pushed WAY too early in the UK, should’ve waited for “Pillowtalk” to die down and for the video to be released. I almost think of “Like I Would” and “Treat You Better” as response songs to each other, if Zayn and Shawn were fighting over the same girl. Also, lol at Zayn “Like I Would” and Zara “I Would Like” happening in the same year, which confused the Multichart spreadsheet to my amusement

33. Beyonce “Sorry”

32. Snakehips feat. Tinashe & Chance The Rapper “All My Friends”
What a surprisingly perfect collaboration! Definitely one of my favorite choruses of the year, I love the sing-along nature of it and Tinashe’s voice is lovely as always. Once it became a worldwide smash they SHOULD have pushed it in America because it could have done the same here, but basically no effort whatsoever was made. It was great to see Tinashe finally happen in the UK though!

31. Ellie Goulding “Something In The Way You Move”

Yaaaas: All My Friends, Sorry, The Greatest & Mercy

*Mini yas*: No & Something In The Way You Move (Unfortunately I paid dust to 'SITWYM' in my personal chart, for reasons to boringly convoluted to explain :') but it's a definite stand out from Delirium!)

It's K ;o: Like I Would, My Way, Never Be Like You, In The Name of Love & Faded

Nay: Your shade towards This Is What You Came For :nono: :snif:

Cheap Thrills & The Greatest are both good songs from Sia. Although overplay has completely ruined Cheap Thrills for me. The Greatest is still a pleasant listen though.

I did really enjoy In The Name Of Love, a lot more than any solo Bebe tracks, but I do agree that Animals is better.

My Way is the only Calvin song I've enjoyed since Drinking From The Bottle.

30. The Lumineers “Ophelia”

29. The Weeknd feat. Daft Punk “I Feel It Coming”
tumblr_oh3w43ryJl1swmozoo1_r1_500.gif
The first of my #1s to drop out, and understandably it’s my current and most recent #1. “I Feel It Coming” already has that classic feel to it, sounding like it came straight out of the 80s and hasn’t aged a day. In just a few listens it overtook “The Hills” to become my favorite Weeknd song. And like many have said, Daft Punk’s contribution is far more noticeable here than on “Starboy” and it fits so perfectly.

28. DJ Khaled feat. Drake “For Free”

27. Hailee Steinfeld & Grey feat. Zedd “Starving”
I love how this song works both ways: the verses with just acoustic guitar—like “Love Yourself” (not “Love Myself” although that’s quite the coincidence) but far more pleasant—and with Zedd’s contribution everywhere else. It would’ve been a shame if Hailee’s music career never properly took off since she does seem capable enough, so thankfully “Starving” was not overlooked like “Love Myself” wrongfully was!

26. Cheat Codes & Kris Kross Amsterdam “Sex”
Judge me all you want, I strongly prefer this over the original “Let’s Talk About Sex” by Salt N Pepa. Give me “Whatta Man” over that any day. And I love it just for being interesting to listen to, with or without the provocative lyrics. It could have been about polar bears or Comic Sans and sound just as great.

25. Rihanna “Kiss It Better”

24. Meghan Trainor “Me Too”

23. Drake feat. Rihanna “Too Good”
Sure, it’s a step down from the likes of “Take Care”, “What’s My Name”, and even “Work”. Normally I wouldn’t have time for another Drake/Rihanna collab especially when there are three better ones, but “Too Good” offers something different from the other three. It’s well-written, the beat is lovely and their chemistry is undeniable, so here it is! This is Rihanna’s fourth appearance in the top 60, will she have a fifth?

22. Zara Larsson & MNEK “Never Forget You”
Really impressive breakthrough song from Zara, that’s all I can say. I want to make some kind of comparison to Robyn since they’re both Swedish and started very young, but I haven’t worked the rest out yet. Kudos to MNEK too although I reckon most people here mistook him for The Weeknd :')

21. Kiiara “Gold”

First of all giving some love to Trainwreck it is a highlight from The Altar.

Some great dance tracks here including Faded, Never Be Like You and In The Name Of Love to name a few! My way however is not one :/

Some obliged Ellie Goulding, Shawn Mendes and Sia love and the meghan tracks here surprised by how much I love them this era

Kiiara love too very underrated!

Too many tracks to name Riser that I like
