December 10, 20168 yr Author 33. Future ft. The Weeknd - Low Life Peak Month: May K_9tX4eHztY While I put the peak month as May, I really had this on repeat since about March and will be one of the most evocative songs of 2016 I suspect. Released at the very end of last year, a collaboration between two of the hottest artists of the moment certainly didn't disappoint and eventually became a long-running hit in America. While The Weeknd is only a featured artist here, it is really him that sells the song isn't it? His voice dominates the track and the woozy beat allows him to do just that. A song that has proven hugely popular this year.
December 10, 20168 yr Author 32. AlunaGeorge ft. Popcaan - I'm In Control Peak Month: March NSdcG1e9APE This song is just cool. I can't think of a better way to describe it! I think this was the first song released this year that turned my mind instantly to summer and warmer times before being reminded it was only the end of January. Of course the presence of Popcaan only reinforces the dancehall vibe and this song was certainly on-trend for 2016. Ended up peaking within the Top 40 too, although I honestly thought it would have been bigger since I was hearing it everywhere around March time.
December 10, 20168 yr Author 31. Tom Zanetti ft. Sadie Ama - You Want Me Peak Month: November 8_OIkuwEGtg This is probably the soundtrack to my first few months at uni - absolutely huge dance song that is now climbing the charts. Leeds DJ Tom Zanetti actually released this song years ago apparently but re-packaged and a video full of aesthetically beautiful Z-List celebrities has seen this really take off and it's not hard to see why. Sounds very different to other dance songs in the chart right now and almost a nod to early 00's garage. I think this could end up on my 2017 list too as it doesn't seem to be going anywhere anytime soon and looks likely to be one of those dance songs that stick around well into next year.
December 10, 20168 yr Author 30. M.O - Who Do You Think Of? Peak Month: August WY6b7bjMt1Q M.O are one of those acts I've heard championed for years and years on 1Xtra, a group you always felt had the potential for a crossover hit but couldn't quite manage. Until this summer that is. This song is ultimately very on-trend with those calypso drums but deservedly became a sleeper-hit here in the UK only peaking months after its release. Those distorted vocals in the chorus are extremely catchy and the video received widespread airplay. I almost think of them as the female WSTRN, making pop-urban crossover songs. As a final note, I think Frankee is my celebrity music crush...
December 10, 20168 yr You Want Me  Nice to see someone from Leeds doing so well! I'm In Control & Who Do You Think of are both really catchy songs as well :D
December 10, 20168 yr Doesn't look like we've too much crossover this year sadly but You Want Me I'm loving at the moment. Sweet production on that one :music:
December 10, 20168 yr You Want Me is such a tune. He doesn't sound anything like he looks though. Who Do You Think Of is a good tune as well, easily the best M.O have done. I actually thought it would be higher in your countdown.
December 11, 20168 yr Author 29. Shift K3Y ft. BB Diamond - Gone Missing Peak Month: January quPVWKgvbQA When I first heard this, I thought 2016 would be the year of the Garage revival! Alas that only worked for Craig David but this remains a top dance track. Ever since 'Touch', I've had a soft spot for Shift K3Y and this was an unexpectedly strong return. The vocals really suit the track and its a shame it never did anything more chart wise.
December 11, 20168 yr Gone Missing was decent enough, I've heard better from both of them though unfortunately :(
December 12, 20168 yr Hi ML Hammer I'm In Control was definitely my favourite AlunaGeorge track of the year but they really did have quite a few bangers. I was hoping it would be a bigger chart hit too, it sounded like it could but be just never picked up :( Didn't think M.O. would have another chance at a comeback after a few flop tracks but so glad they did because WDYTO? was amazing, so glad it actually became their first proper hit single too :D The song is one of the catchiest of the year surely! Looking forward to what's to come :D
December 12, 20168 yr Author 28. Elf Kid - Golden Boy Peak Month: February 8GtVUkyzvhU Sometimes you hear a song that instantly hits you like a steam train and makes you sit in stunned awe until you reload it again and again... that was my reaction to Golden Boy. Haven't hear of Elf Kid before this or indeed after but this was a sensationally hooky two and half minutes of Grime. Sampling the famous Amerie song '1 Thing' this is an explosive, catchy and energetic track that even received minor support from daytime R1... testament to the song's quality. Haven't listened it too much recently but at the start of the year this was a big tune!
December 13, 20168 yr I'm In Control is a right Jam up there with their best  M.O is also pretty good I prefer Dance On My Own myself though Gone Missing is also very good a underrated dance song of the year! Golden Boy too
December 13, 20168 yr Author 27. Jax Jones ft. Mike Dunn & MNEK - House Work Peak Month: September gOtMpFNSlCA Never seen the music video for this before today and its slightly creepy! Anyway, this was a total banger that still goes off on a night out. No thrills, just three minutes of a relentless bassline and some catchy vocals and the inclusion of MNEK is a bonus. This is the type of music where he shines, he is prone to making some strange songs but this is so accessible. Jax Jones looks likely to make a chart dent with his new single next year but this is a perfect example of a song that would have charted higher under the held-back release system. Love this.
December 13, 20168 yr Author 26. The Weeknd ft. Daft Punk - I Feel It Coming Peak Month: December QyO70FvCaHA Obviously no official music video release for this yet but I feel this is the best pure pop song this year! Looks likely to be a hit well into 2017 too and its easy to see why. The closest thing to 'Can't Feel My Face' on the new album this does take one or two listens to fully hit but when it does... can hear the yearning in Abel's voice here and the chorus is low-key brilliant. May end up higher on a 2017 list but as the latest entry to the list it does well here too.
December 14, 20168 yr House Work is a brilliant tune, the only of Jax Jones I've liked. The video was actually what got me into it. I Feel It Coming is also amazing. I don't think it's quite as good as Starboy but you can certainly hear more of the Daft Punk elements on this one.
December 25, 20168 yr House Work is a good track but wouldn't ever listen to it outside of a night out playlist  I Feel It Coming is divine, wasn't a fan at first but it's so much better than Starboy!
December 27, 20168 yr House Work was great, I'm also a fan of Jax's follow up with RAYE although that is a tad more mainstream. Also great to see I Feel It Coming make an appearance so high, it really is such a beautiful song and showcases The Weeknd's versatility in the sense that he can also make chilled ballads, as well as R&B club bangers.
December 27, 20168 yr I Feel It Coming is pretty good dont love it as much as Starboy yet but jts getting there!
January 22, 20178 yr Author Better had finish this.... 25. D.R.A.M ft. Lil' Yachty - Broccoli Peak Month: August K44j-sb1SRY 24. Snakehips ft.
