93. Cashmere Cat ft Selena Gomez & Tory Lanez - Trust Nobody

LOVE MONTH - OCTOBER

- The beat to this is just :music: I've never really been too much of a fan of Selena Gomez and prior to the release of this I didn't have a clue who Cashmere Cat was/were (still don't know if it's one person / two people / whatever lmao), and I'd known Tory Lanez from the brilliant LUV - which just missed out on this countdown by the way - so I was kinda unsure when I first listened to it. But my god is that beat infectious! The chorus is quiet and the verses are simplistic, and I think that was why I loved the song so much. Definitely one of the R&B highlights of the year and it reached #1 on my personal chart in what I think was September.

92. Popcaan - Ova Dweet

LOVE MONTH - MAY

- Here we have another dancehall song, as you may have seen if you've been following the countdown from the start I've been hyping up this genre and rightly so. This was anotherr good pick from the Afrobeat genre in 2016, I really loved this and it got me into Popcaan, who featured on hits from Jamie xx and AlunaGeorge (both of which will appear soon!). I don't understand half of the stuff this guy is saying, but as always it makes for a totally JAMMIN tune and it was really unfortunate this didn't grow into a hit - even after some decent support from Radio 1XTRA.

91. Major Lazer ft Fuse ODG & Nyla - Light It Up

LOVE MONTH - FEBRUARY

- Light It Up by the now-massive Major Lazer rose to prominence at the start of the year and spent a really really really long time in the Official Charts - something ridiculous like 3 months between the positions of 8 and 13, but I didn't mind one bit. The fact that the song's success kind of overlayed into the spring made it even better for me - I had got into it again around that time and it now holds a name as one of the unbelievably long running streaming hits that I don't at all dislike, in fact to this day it still sounds so fresh. It was good to see Fuse get another hit as well - such a KING of the UK Scene still :dance

90. twenty one pilots - Heathens

LOVE MONTH - AUGUST

- Omg some top!11 This single was released in July and at first, I have to say I didn't really like it. There was something just so nondescript and boring about it that made it so far inferior to all other top music. Like the reason I love them so much is how their songs are actually interesting to listen to, but BLOODY HELL this is boring. I like it, I do, partly because it's top and I feel obliged to like anything by them, but especially when this got mainstream it made me want to scream f*** OFF whenever it came on. It's nice, but it isn't them and it's one of their worst ever songs, no questions asked. Although I've still charted it in my top 100 - I guess I do kind of like it, it's just the constant playing of it everywhere and the fact it's been totally hammered on streaming sites kinda has put me off it to a certain extent. Even still

89. Iveta Mukuchyan - LoveWave

LOVE MONTH - MAY

- This is one of (in my opinion) the best songs from last years Eurovision - and as far as I'm aware this is the highest one that features in my EOY countdown. Heartbeat by Justs might also feature but I can't remember lmao. Anyway, the chorus to this is soaring, loud, and everything I've come to love from Eurovision pop. The build up to the chorus in this is over a minute long, and gradually gets bigger and bigger until... BANG. An explosion of vocals from 2016's Eurovision Armenian representative, and it rightfully wualified for the final and ended up doing pretty decently. Here's hoping that this year we have some similarly good entries!

88. DJ Kenno - Will Grigg's On Fire

LOVE MONTH - JUNE

- Why am I charting this so high? I'm not too sure myself, but in Blonde's only feature in this year's countdown (it would have been totally different in last years), even if it's a pseudonym, I've found this to be one of my largest guilty pleasures of the whole year. There was something about the vocals in this, they're really clear and I love the accent of them, plus the backing is irresistably sampled from a 90's sample - I can't remember the song - but it gives it a wonderful retro feel and makes me get in the mood for football. This was the soundtrack to my Euro 2016, and I'll always remember the song for that! Massive banger.

87. Pet Shop Boys - The Pop Kids

LOVE MONTH - MARCH

- The Pet Shop Boys' 2016 era was so so good! I bought Super on CD the day it came out and fell in love with it instantly - they're one of my favourite groups of all time and I loved how they conbined their synthy dance sounds with updated poppy, electro vibes. This was my favourite track from the album, and it gets a top 100 position even though it failed to get any higher than #30 in my personal chart. This had MEGA lonjevity and this is one of my go-to albums for when I'm in the car, so bloody good. What amazes me the most is the way that the Pet Shop Boys have managed to stay up to date with musical trends and stay popular all this time. Here's to the next amazing album

86. Chase & Status ft Tom Grennan - All Goes Wrong

LOVE MONTH - OCTOBER

- What a brilliant tune! I first heard this on a BT Sport advert, which was actually prior to it getting a proper release, and I loved it lots then - so you can imagine how I felt when it was given a CDQ release as a single. Radio 1 hammered this song (I had no objections to that ahah) and I was so so in love with it. The vocals gave me Christian Burrows teas (X-Factor GOD) and as always Chase & Status absolutely NAILED drum&bass, keeping what is for the most part a massively saturated genre sounding ever-fresh and easy on the ears. They're one of the only dance acts that can keep d&b sounding good and cool without only appealing to the hardcore UKF fans.

85. Sigma - Stay

LOVE MONTH - MARCH

- Whenever I think of this, it really baffles me how this wasn't an official hit. I mean it's got the name power in Sigma, and the brilliant catchy chorus, and the current relevant dance production - and it got a lot of support from the likes of Radio 1, so why on earth did it do zero in the charts? Not a clue, myself. Answers on a postcard please. But yeah, this was totally stunning, I found it due to it being featured on Spadam's chart and it spent a good while in my personal chart, peaking just inside the top 5 for a few weeks. Definitely one of the biggest missed hit opportunities in the charts of 2016, no questions asked!!

84. X-Ambassadors - Renegades

LOVE MONTH - JANUARY

- Renegades was on a Jeep advert in the summer of 2015. I Shazamed it at the time, gave it a couple of plays and then kinda fell out of love with it, but when it started to get a push as a proper single and get radio support I fell in love with it all over again. It spent a month in my top 10, peaking at #7, and it was deservedly a UK Top 40 hit (sadly its streaming denied it of any more). I had been a casual fan of X-Ambassadors prior to this, their track with Jay-Z and Jamie N Commons "Jungle" was a MASSIVE BANGER and in my opinion the real anthem of the 2014 World Cup - I love love love that. There's another X-Ambassadors song to come later in the countdown, btw!

83. Lukas Graham - Mama Said

LOVE MONTH - FEBRUARY

- This is the first of two Lukas Graham songs to feature in my countdown and this one was such a tune when I first heard it! Unfortunately it was massively overshadowed by 7 Years which was totally massive at the time this surfaced in the UK top 100 but I loved this equally at one point (not as much in the long term though, admittedly), such a unique tune! Lukas Graham have a knack of making totally different tracks, this had a very intrigueing (probably spelt it wrong) sample of some kids singing the chorus, I think that was what differenciated this track from all the others around at the time. Plus it wasn't at all trendhopping, which is ALWAYS a good thing.

82. Zara Larsson - Ain't My Fault

LOVE MONTH - SEPTEMBER

- So surprising that this didn't hit the top 10 - I was totally obessed with the track when it first came out (I played it something stupid like 50 times in a week) and I was certain it'd be a hit. Zara combined some awesome trumpets with a banging chorus and a totally unexpected SASSY attitude on this to make a pure pop pleasure worthy of so much more than a mere top 20 placing. Definitely one I'll be spinning long into the future, this is the second of two Zara songs in the countdown - although I must say this isn't my favourite ever from her, Never Forget You JUST edges it for me although it's a close one.

81. Tom Odell - Magnetized

LOVE MONTH - JUNE

- I was a real fan of this from when it was first released, although I was under the impression it'd be a massive flop and not trouble the top 40. Little did I know that this'd become another top 40 hit for Tom Odell and get some massive rotation on Radio 1, definitely was a larger hit than I initially expected! It was one of the soundtracks to my holiday in June and I was a real fan of the passionate vocals from Tom, who managed top stay current yet still keep his unqiue acoustic sound to him - something which rarely bodes well for a hit although he bucked that trend with this! His whole Wrong Crowd era was great, was nice to see him get success from it.

Oh another Will Grigg appearance! That takes it up to 3 EOY's :cheer:

All Goes Wrong is the best they've done in AGGGESSS. (Says a lot really when even that didn't make my top 100 :kink:)

Stay really is immaculate, obviously one of their best ever tracks

Good to see you like so many tunes, the Will Grigg song was totally something I didn't expect to like, I kinda felt a bit ashamed to be so in love with it when the song was essentially a meme :heehee:

80. Disturbed - The Sound Of Silence

LOVE MONTH - APRIL

- I was so confused when I first saw this in the iTunes top 100, the success of it all happened so quickly and I'd never heard of these guys prior to the release of this track. It's an amazing cover,m and what is in my opinion a VAST improvement on the original of The Sound Of Silence by Disturbed. This hit the top 40 with some poor streaming, which was impressive, even more impressive that it managed to go top 5 on iTunes at one point! I think these guys are definitely a one hit wonder although it was great to see their album Immortalized get some recognition and make a few movements in the UK Album chart. One of the coolest chart events of the year!

79. Riton ft Kah-lo - Rinse & Repeat

LOVE MONTH - FEBRUARY

- A rare held back release from the then flailing Ministry of Sound label, this was an absolute HOUSE BANGER. A couple of nice garage influences in this track, and the follow up to this called Betta Riddim was nowhere near up to the standards of this. This was released back in the times of when only the top 25 would get chart plays, and this deservedly got one under a strupid non-OA/OS release strategy that probably prevented it from being a big top 5 hit. Oh well, I still loved this lots at the time and it has great value for its popularity as I can still scrobble this and have a good old jam to it. Not one that's going to be remembered by the UK public forever but it will certainly stay in my memory.

78. Jess Glynne - Ain't Got Far To Go

LOVE MONTH - MARCH

- FLERRRRRPPP. As Michael would say. This never actually made the top 40, even though I predicted it to reach #1. It got in the top 40 in the midweeks, though, if that counts. Anyway, here was a single release from the start of the year from Jess's album I Cry When I Laugh, and I really loved the slightly tropical summery vibes that radiated from this song, it sounded so big at the start of the spring and I'm really sad that it didn't get much radio support, so in turn was a massive flop (especially in comparison to all of Jess's other singles, and this was superior to those!). After this she disappeared and hasn't been seen since, probably recalibrating her sound.

Those 3

One of Jess' best & considering how HUGE she was at the time of that releasing it was crazy to see it stall outside the top 40!

Heathens - Glad this became so huge for them. I much prefer it to anything else they've released.

Lovewave - One of my favourite Eurovision entries last year but I can't remember how it goes know.

Will Grigg's On Fire - Tune. I went to watch Wigan a few times last year and the crowd singing this was always such a moment. Glad it put the classic that is Freed From Desire back in the spotlight too.

Ain't My Fault - Love this. Zara had such an amazing year in 2016 and this was certainly one of the highlights.

Rinse And Repeat - Loved this at the start of the year but I haven't went back to it since very often.

BYS is also a great track, already my favourite from Jonas Blue now. It is a bit of a TIWYCF rip off but I think that's why I like it so much, it's so catchy and the vocals are excellent too

Looks like I'm not the only one who was reminded of This Is What You Came For when listening to the drop on By Your Side.

77. FRENSHIP ft Emily W - Capsize

LOVE MONTH - JUNE

- This was a track that completely passed me by when it was entered in BJSC 84, I didn't give it many points at all and I considered it a filler dance track. A few weeks later it started to get an official push and I totally fell in love with this. It spent a month in the top 5 and I know that this position doesn't do its chart run justice, but the point still stands that this is a GORGEOUS dance song by the brilliant FRENSHIP. Emily W, the featured vocalist on this, has since had a top 10 hit with Paris, it's been good to see her do well for herself after this unfortunately failed to make any waves in the official charts. Another INJUSTICE.

76. twenty one pilots - Cancer

LOVE MONTH - SEPTEMBER

- I'll admit, this one is a bit boring unless you belong to the more hardcore breed of twenty one pilots fans. There's a certain element to Tyler's voice which never fails to send a chill down my spine and after being kinda up in the air about whether I liked this or not at first, eventually I grew to love it as the haunting vocals of Tyler and the intricate instrumentation of Josh drew me in, similar to what happened with myself and all other top songs. This is just such an epic tune, a brilliant cover of what was a shite original by My Chemical Romance (who are totally ARSE by the way, never got the love for them) and a vast improvement on it.

75. Sigma ft Take That - Cry

LOVE MONTH - MAY

- When this was first announced, I was so excited for it. Sigma - one of my favourite producers, and Take That - a band that I've loved for many many years, collaborating? Either too good to be true or just a total mess (delete as applicable). But this was AMAZING. I don't know HOW it works and I didn't know that Gary Barlow's voice worked so well with drum and bass backing, but it was a total banger and it reached the summit of my personal chart in the late spring. It did quite well officially too - some could call it a flop but for a Take That song to get a chart play in this day and climate is very impressive, such a banger.

74. Mome ft Merryn Jeann - Aloha

LOVE MONTH - JUNE

- This has a weird, jaunty beat and some totally unique vocals from any other dance hit of the year. The vocals come from the brilliant Merryn Jeann - who deserves a hell of a lot more attention than she gets, by the way, and the producer is the awesome Mome. I'm not sure what genre I would define this as, it's so different to what I usually listen to and that's what I look for primarily in a song, uniqueness (is that even a word ). Well, this certainly is unique, and it was entered into BJSC at the start of the year, and soon after became a minor European hit, which was very nice to see as I'd started liking it from BJSC, not the charts.

73. Blossoms - Charlemagne

LOVE MONTH - SEPTEMBER

- I heard this on Radio 1 around Autumn time and I love the charm of it straight away. It's a very instant song that I think sums up the best available right now in UK indie. A guitar heavy, percussion orientated backing combined with some delightful vocals with a distinct British twang (I'm a sucker for a good British twang) make a totally heavenly listen and I was really happy to see these guys get an unexpected #1 album with their self-titled, released shortly after I first heard this. Their follow up, Blown Rose, however, was a total let down in comparison to this and the occasion I have had to listen to the album hasn't resulted in me making many more discoveries from them, unfortunately. I think they'll be a one-hit wonder in the mdh charts. :(

72. Bastille - Fake It

LOVE MONTH - SEPTEMBER

- A stomping indie banger from Bastille. I've got so much love for this, I mean partly down to the fact it's Bastille and for me it's very hard not to love a Bastille track, but mostly because of the kind of bass heavy drop before the chorus that leads to a jawdropping, anthemic sing-a-long chorus, one of my favourite monents from the Wild World album. I won't talk much about this, as I've got a lot more chances to talk about Bastille later in the countdown :magic:

71. Martin Jensen - All I Wanna Do

LOVE MONTH - JUNE

- If you don't know this song as being a BJSC entry for Anéné (I think it was them?) in BJSC 85, you'll know it after being redirected from Martin Jensen's new one - Solo Dance. Solo Dance has become a Spotify hit and soon to be official hit by the looks, but I have to say as good as that is I will probably always prefer this. A total house bop coming from one of the best BJSC months of last year, I was at the time obsessed with the slight emotional pull of the vocals and slightly generic scrambled vocal drop. The theme of the lyrics to this is slightly cheesy, but the way they're conveyed in a fun, upbeat dance tune makes them bearable.

70. Sigala ft DJ Fresh & Imani - Say You Do

LOVE MONTH - MARCH

- It was going to be VERY VERY hard for tropical house producing Brit Sigala to top his first two brilliant singles, Easy Love and Sweet Lovin' - and he didn't. I prefer those two to this, and the latter will feature later on in the countdown - but this is still a totally banging tune. I struggle to see where DJ Fresh contributed in this (I think I can hear a few bass influences in the chorus), but the three of these guys made a totally banging pre summer tune that deservedly smashed in the spring, under a stupid held back release strategy. It fell down the chart like a brick but it was still good to see it become a hit. :D

69. Blitz//Berlin - Surfboard Fire

LOVE MONTH - OCTOBER

- FLERRRPPPP. It's another flop BJSC entry of mine, this time coming from Blitz//Berlin who used a crafty Kanye sample in this one. It's haunting, and needs a lot of patience to get into, I'l give y'all that, but LAST PLACE? Wow. I mean just to add insult to injury, I got a deduction for not voting in the semi-final, but even if I hadn't had got that deduction I'd've still finished rock bottom of the standings. Lmao. Anyway, this track is from The Girl On The Train and it's totally worth a listen if you love massive musical build ups and shouty, emotional vocals. A very moving and stunning piece and it was rather upsetting to see it not get enough appreciation.

68. DJ Snake ft Bipolar Sunshine - Middle

LOVE MONTH - MARCH

- Two snakes in a row in this countdown! (one from DJ Snake, one the song Snakes from Bastille lol) Bipolar Sunshine has a really droning, monotone voice, and for some reason I totally love this. The lyrics are nice and basic but effective with that, and the chorus is amazing. There's some subtle tropical influences in what I think is a xylophone, and OH MY GOD the drop. It's totally stunning and the distroted scrambled vocals that follow it just make it even more spectacular. Definitely one of the most memorable drops from Snake, I still listen to this on a regular basis. Was one of the best chart moments of the year to see this be a hit <,33

67. Bastille - Snakes

LOVE MONTH - SEPTEMBER

- Another riveting indie banger from Bastille, this was one of the songs that had leaked prior to the release of their album and I charted it in the spring, when all I had to listen to was a low quality live rip of it. The proper CDQ version of the song was totally worth the wait, some lovely relaxing instrumentation and orchestral moments that combine with the as ever strong vocals of Dan Smith and the 'oooohhh' backing vocals that are so addictive, on the whole it's just a really strong song. I wouldn't mind this being a single eventually, I feel as though the public would appreciate it and it'd be their best chance of getting a post-album top 40.

66. twenty one pilots - Stressed Out

LOVE MONTH - JANUARY

- Here's another track from twenty one pilots, the last of three from them in my countdown so their highest. I'm kind of judging this positioning on the basis that I loved it before it got popular. I'll admit, after hearing it nearly constantly on the radio for like three months I got totally fed up of it, but I do think it's a brilliant track. There's such a relatable aspect to the lyrics of so many top songs and it's similar with this one, Tyler Joseph sings about childhood and listening to this really got me thinking about the events of my youth and got me very nostalgic :,) I hope that they opt for more upbeat songs than this for their next album, though.

Great to see Charlemagne & All I wanna Do here! Two songs that really deserved better in the UK :( (glad Solo Dance is catching on though)

Not sure what to think about Say You Do though, Sigala & DJ Fresh both have great sounds individually but they just don't work together :(
