Same, I can see her rising to #1 on Spotify for a couple of days after this weekend, but I do worry she might suffer on iTunes a bit. She's not even top 10 combined. Carpool oddly had no effect here. It's having a huge effect in the US.
I've noticed that Carpool seems to be a bit less instant here in the UK, than it is for the US! So hopefully it's just got a delayed effect!

Β

Also, I'm really annoyed 'Ain't My Fault' will be Zara's worst performing single here in the UK, since her big launch! :( It's by FAR my favourite thing by her!

I wonder what it'll mean for future Christmas #1's if Clean Bandit (or even Mariah) get it next Friday? To think this time ten years ago, the Christmas chart race was between Leona, McFly and Girls Aloud. :o These days it's various charity singles that are never listened to again after the New Year.

Β

I think it means we are over the short charity release period - and hopefully current pop stars will start releasing on Xmas week perhaps with Xmas efforts or even big new comebacks.

I was talking to Joe about this very briefly, earlier. I think people are just bored of unoriginal and uninspired, bland charity covers just as much as they got bored of the X Factor songs. We like original and somewhat half decent (at least) efforts. Just look at Craig David with his CiN single and then Jess Glynne last year with 'Take Me Home'.
Just look at Craig David with his CiN single and then Jess Glynne last year with 'Take Me Home'.

I actually thought both those songs were alright actually, although Craig's effort was a low peaking #42, and I think the reason is partly due to the fact he performed another song on The X Factor the same weekend as CIN.

I'm actually dreading the comic relief single next year sales for that could go all pear shaped.on the back of the Xmas charity tracks. I had an inkling these charity tracks wouldn't do anything.
We're there any iTunes campaigns before Rage Against the Machine?
Although, tbf to Comic Relief and Children In Need, they're usually the only charity tracks. I think the problem this year, is what Davidson (?) picked up on last night and that there are too many charity tracks this year.

I think Jeff Buckley's version of Hallelujah rather than X Factor winner Alexandra Burke was one?

I agree there are too many of them plus the 2 main ones people are split between the two.

I shouldn't think so.

Β

I often associate comic relief as th "fun" charity, and their official singles are more often than not upbeat, full flavoured pop songs performed by a current pop artist of the time. No more sad ballads here.

Β

I could see someone like Olly Murs singing the comic relief single.

I think Jeff Buckley's version of Hallelujah rather than X Factor winner Alexandra Burke was one?

Β

That's true so they must have realised the potential and this potential peaked massively with Rage along with the annoyance of the XF building over 4 years.

Β

Same has happened with charity covers since Military Wives in 2011 when they peaked by beating the XF and this year people are bored of them.

Β

Hopefully! I don't understand why so few big pop stars release a non-album festive single in order to bag the Christmas Number One. It would give them royalties each year if the track is half decent. Little Mix would be good candidates - they have the fan base and radio would hammer it.

Hopefully record companies can see this now with streaming and the reduced support for reality covers etc.

Β

I also find it funny how every year someone releases a cover of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas - Nathan Sykes this year, Sam Smith last and Rod Stewart all this decade lol.

I think Jeff Buckley's version of Hallelujah rather than X Factor winner Alexandra Burke was one?

Β

There was also Scottish singer-songwriter Malcolm Middleton's We're All Going To Die in 2007, that only reached number 31.

The new Pia Mia single is so good.

Β

Hope it does well.
