February 4, 20178 yr Author yep, soz about the wait but I was waiting for UV to post the 15-11 section and then things like BJSC came up, so I'll be writing the commentaries for all of the top 15 myself. also blame my laziness

[21+ weeks] 93 points After we all forgot about his existence or thought his career had long gone, he came back with one of the biggest surprise hits of the year which went on to become his biggest single to date. Unfortunately the song is a real borefest with basic lyrics which couldn't sound more catered to Heart listeners if it tried. Which is a shame because I thought his 'Impossible' cover was great. 14. Maroon 5 - Don't Wanna Know [feat. Kendrick Lamar] 16-17-11-7-8-5-7-9-13-17-16-12-18-18-22-22-... [16+ weeks] 93 points You know a trend is oversaturated when Maroon 5 jump on it, which is what exactly happened to tropical pop towards the end of last year. Sadly it's an uninspired 'effort' with the production sounding bare and a very poor chorus as well as a totally pointless guest rap from Kendrick Lamar who really shouldn't be lowering himself to this. 13. Rihanna - Work [feat. Drake] 13-4-4-3-2-2-3-5-6-6-8-10-10-13-16-18-22-22-23-23-31-35-35-35-41-47-55-59-59-58-59-63-69-70-73-75-x [36 weeks] 95 points This is really good what is wrong with y'all? -_- 12. Drake - Controlla 46-39-19-18-21-21-24-23-23-24-22-21-26-25-29-31-33-32-34-36-37-42-43-39-36-39-42-45-48-51-64-71-x(4)-56-64-71-74-x [36 weeks] 93 points I don't mind this, but I think it's overrated. It gets a bit boring after a few listens and isn't up there with Drake's best work. Its massive chart run was something to witness just for Pete's chart show thread meltdowns though. 11. Nathan Sykes - Famous 62-28-41-x [3 weeks] 93 points Why are we still allowing Nathan Sykes in 2016? This is awful and shouldn't have gone near the top 40, which it wouldn't have done if Capital didn't bribe X Factor to give him a performance slot.
February 6, 20178 yr Author LHCob76kigA 10. Jonas Blue - Fast Car [feat. Dakota] 61-3-2-3-4-3-5-5-6-7-7-9-12-11-14-18-20-23-23-24-24-32-34-36-37-38-46-44-47-65-69-74-x [32 weeks] 106 points Covering an all-time classic was always going to be controversial especially with it being a tropical house interpretation. It managed to be a huge hit, outpeaking the original but sadly got a lot of hate. 09. Lukas Graham - 7 Years 24-6-1-1-1-1-1-2-2-3-4-6-8-10-13-15-16-17-20-22-27-32-33-34-36-44-49-49-58-59-63-64-72-74-64-70-74-x(13)-73-x [38 weeks] 111 points The biggest selling song of the year if you exclude streaming, '7 Years' was massive but as always that lead to overplay which is probably why it's so high here. It's not that bad people! 08. D.R.A.M - Broccoli [feat. Lil Yachty] DNC [#93 peak] 112 points A big hit in the US, it never managed to fully cross over here besides making a small streaming impact. I personally like this a lot but I can't say I'm surprised the majority of Buzzjack don't. The guy's voice takes a while to get used to and the song literally uses broccoli as a metaphor for weed. 07. Charlie Puth - One Call Away 73-69-x(6)-75-56-45-29-26-27-26-28-31-35-31-29-32-37-50-64-67-70-x(3)-72-x [21 weeks] 130 points This is not nearly as high as it should be, seriously what a terrible excuse of a song this is. -_- Don't get me started on the cringey lyrics. 06. gnash - i hate u, i love u [feat. olivia o'brien] 68-52-45-33-12-8-8-7-7-8-11-14-15-18-19-24-30-27-30-32-35-39-45-45-47-51-51-49-58-70-x [30 weeks] 133 points I think it's a nice song, but it got a lot of hate for being 'boring' as well as its lyrics. I guess it did overstay its time in the chart but I do have a soft spot for this despite it not being my kind of music. __ The top 5: Calum Scott - Dancing On My Own Designer - Panda Drake - Fake Love John Newman - Ole Zay Hilfigerrr & Zayion McCall - Juju On That Beat (TZ Anthem)
February 7, 20178 yr Say You Won't Let Go. Meh on this Don't Wanna Know. I find it okay. Work. Meh, Controlla. Okay song, I first heard it at my prom and quite liked its chilled vibe. Famous. Haven't listened to or don't remember. Fast Car. Okay cover, not as good as original. He has better with Perfect Strangers. 7 Years. Meh. Broccoli. Haven't made my mind up on an opinion yet. One Call Away. Meh. i hate u i love u. Don't like this. EDIT: I predict Dancing On My Own for number one. Edited February 7, 20178 yr by DalekTurret32
February 10, 20178 yr How is Ole so high? Surprised that many people even have heard it given how hard it flopped... Calum will "win" this I imagine but Juju wouldn't surprise me either.
February 10, 20178 yr Author q31tGyBJhRY 05. John Newman - Olé DNC 138 points Somehow this is as high as #5 even though it didn't chart, but I guess for a song as polarising as this it didn't take overplay for people to hate it as quite a few were declaring it as one of the worst of the year within the first day of release. The faux-reggae feel of the track, the lyrics and John's forced accent were reasons cited for it getting hate. I personally didn't mind it but I wasn't a huge fan either. 04. Drake - Fake Love 37-10-11-12-11-13-14-21-23-22-19-24-25-28-29-... [15+ weeks] 138 points Drake was a massive hate figure all year for his constant domination of the chart, but in the end it wasn't his huge #1 that got the hate attention here but his most recent release 'Fake Love', the first from his forthcoming album apparently. Like with most commercial Drake songs I enjoyed this but understandably many people found the forced accent annoying, as well as the production being more urban leaning than 'One Dance' or 'Too Good'. 03. Zay Hilfigerrr & Zayion McCall - Juju On That Beat (TZ Anthem) 68-46-40-37-40-57-x [6 weeks] 149 points Well this was truly awful, good to see it at #3 here even with it not becoming a major hit in the end. The lyrics are poor and repetitive, the production sounds cheap (and in fact it's completely ripped off some other song) and both of them sound very annoying. I don't usually mind the viral internet rap hits but this one can really do one, let's hope we don't go that low again (2017's already an improvement in the meme-fueled hits anyway, g'won 'Bad and Boujee') 02. Desiigner - Panda 74-47-27-25-15-12-7-8-11-12-12-13-13-19-21-23-31-34-39-39-44-45-50-59-61-63-65-72-x [28 weeks] 171 points Oh come on guys this is brilliant. Ultraviolence would probably have written a proper rant for this entry but as she's busy hosting BJSC I'll now tell you how WRONG you all are for putting this at #2. Panda, panda, panda panda panda panda panda panda. Did you know this is Dev's favourite song about pandas? 01. Calum Scott - Dancing On My Own 40-42-36-36-36-38-42-27-28-16-12-10-4-4-3-2-3-3-4-4-4-4-8-10-10-10-13-19-22-22-24-27-31-35-41-50-52-38-48-46-55-66-... [42+ weeks] 261 points Lmao it's not even close. How to collectively piss off Buzzjack 101; take a great song by a celebrated singer and suck all the emotion out of it whilst making it a far bigger hit and completely overshadowing the original. Death to this song etc. Very deserving "winner" here.
February 10, 20178 yr Fake Love is horrific, glad to see it high although still not high enough. I don't mind Dancing On My Own tbh, and Panda at least brought us the iconic Dev quote :')
February 10, 20178 yr That Dev quote though, the song is about a car not the animal  Well I actually don't mind any of that top 5 but at least the #1 is the worst of the 5, good to have a non-rap song as the most hated for once.
February 10, 20178 yr Perfect #1, absolutely horrid. The BGT performance wasn't even that bad but the studio is completely soulless and it's just an insult to the original that it outdid it so much chartwise, just goes to show the state of the chart in the streaming era :drama:
February 10, 20178 yr At least 7 Years wasn't #1. Imo it's the best song that's been released this millennia, it never really grows old as even my favourite song usually do. It's a shame that other people don't see it that way :(
February 10, 20178 yr Perfect #1, absolutely horrid. The BGT performance wasn't even that bad but the studio is completely soulless and it's just an insult to the original that it outdid it so much chartwise, just goes to show the state of the chart in the streaming era :drama: Mind you it would have done even better if the Chart was still determined by sales only, including a #1 peak, so we can at least thank streaming for that!
