January 5, 20179 yr Author My Top 75 albums chart is starting now! Rules: No EP's! They have a list of their own! January 8, 20179 yr Author Some clues for my Top 10 Albums of 2016 2 of them are Oxford bands 2 of them are Sound Of winners (with one of them wining the Sound Of award this year) 4 of them got nominated for the Mercury Prize this year 2 of them tragically passed away this year 1 of them has songs that have numbers in all of their titles UPDATE: More clues 10. This artist won the Sound of 2016 award 9. This band is recognisable for their logo showing lips sticking out a tongue. This album may only be rock n' roll, but I sure as heck liked it 8. Another Sound Of winner. I mentioned on some threads that I have seen him perform live in my record store. 7. One of their songs was covered by Birdy in 2011. 6. This poetic brilliance sadly passed away this year. One of his songs was used in Shrek, and another song by him was covered by Joe Cocker in 1999. 5. Oxford band. One song was in the Magic Mike XXL soundtrack, another song was used in an Apple ad in 2015, and another song was recently used in a Toyota ad. 4. Underrated electronic album that got nominated for the Mercury Prize this year. 3. R&B/Soul singer signed to Daptone records. 2. Another Oxford band. They got nominated for the Mercury Prize 5 times so far, but never won. Their 2000 album was released without promotion, and no singles were released from that album. 1. Another musician that passed away this year. A lot of this musician's 70's material have been released on 7" picture discs starting from 2012-onwards (with the recent one being released in Record Store Day 2016) Edited January 8, 20179 yr by DalekTurret32
January 9, 20179 yr Author DalekTurret32's Favourite Albums of 2016 10. CLUE: "This artist won the Sound Of 2016 award" JACK GARRATT - PHASE "I feel too burn, I heal to hurt, Human after all" Great production, highly satisfying electronic instrumentals and smooth vocals. I've been enjoying a lot of Sound Of winners material lately. Last year, Years & Years managed to land a spot on my favourite albums of 2015 with Communion. This year's Sound Of winner album is just as great as Communion. It's a shame his only UK Top 100 hit "Worry" flopped, despite making an appearance on NOW 93. Best Tracks: Breathe Life, The Love You're Given, Far Cry, Chemical, Worry, Fire 9. CLUE: "This band is recognisable for their logo showing lips sticking out a tongue. This album may only be rock n' roll, but I sure as heck liked it." THE ROLLING STONES - BLUE AND LONESOME "I'm a dealin' man, still dealing, yeah. I'll go keep on dealing till I find myself a bed" So! Rolling Stones managed to put out their first studio album in approximately a decade, and it sounds marvellous. The album takes its sound from the roots of blues and rock 'n' roll, and even has a couple of harmonicas thrown in ;) Reminds me of their 60's to 70's material. We have had lots of great comeback albums from the likes of The Avalanches and A Tribe Called Quest, but out of all of the long-awaited comeback albums released in 2016 that I have listened to, this one is my personal favourite. Good recommendation for people who are into blues, rock 'n' roll, and all that 60's/70's rock. Best Tracks: Hate To See You Go, Ride 'Em On Down, Just Your Fool, Just Like I Treat You, All Of Your Love, I Gotta Go

I mentioned on some threads that I have seen him perform live in my record store." http://www.earbuddy.net/wp-content/uploads/Michael-Kiwanuka-love-and-hate.jpg MICHAEL KIWANUKA - LOVE AND HATE "I believe. She won't take me somewhere I'm not supposed to be. You can't steal the things that god has given me. No more pain and no more shame and misery." Spiritual, dramatic and emotional. Kiwanuka sings brilliantly in this album and the lyrics are put together very well. The 4/4 clapping beat and the upbeat guitar phrases in Black Man In A White World give this album a spiritual and soulful feel, and Love And Hate is enough to pull my heartstrings. Best Tracks: Love And Hate, Black Man In A White World, Rule The World, One More Night, Place I Belong 7. CLUE: "One of their songs was covered by Birdy in 2011." BON IVER - 22, A MILLION "Say nothing of my fable, no. What on earth is left to come?" 367 (In this album, Bon Iver go experimental.) 2032 (The use of the vocoder is layed out very well) 52 (the instrumentation is outstanding) 15 (and the production is divine) 0 (nothing left to say, but "great album") 10/10 (well done!) Vilified, crucified in the human frame. A million candles burning for help that never came" The marvellous swansong of Cohen's discography. I really appreciate album's brilliant concept relating to death, religion and darkness, and the instrumentation and production are both spot on. And as for the title track on the beginning of the album, it's really haunting  Best Tracks: You Want It Darker, Treaty, It Seemed The Better Way, Travelling Light, Leaving The Table. Fun Fact: Cohen's son Adam plays the classical guitar on this album. 5. CLUE: "Oxford band. One song was in the Magic Mike XXL soundtrack, another song was used in an Apple ad in 2015, and another song was recently used in a Toyota ad" mdh hoped for this album to appear on this countdown in one of his replies on this EOY thread ... ... ... Well, here it is! http://www.radioutd.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/image.jpeg GLASS ANIMALS - HOW TO BE A HUMAN BEING "Leftover breakfast, cereal for lunch. She's broken but she's fun. My girl eats mayonnaise from a jar while getting blazed" Glass Animals return with their chilled out indie material in How To Be A Human Being and it's just as amazing as ZABA. From leftover breakfast to pineapples in their heads, Dave Bayley and Co. jump from one bright idea to another. 50 seconds into Life Itself and I'm already dancing :yahoo: . Oh, and by the way, I enjoyed the video game style music video to S2E3, and there is also a game based off that music video, but I can't played it. Tried to use it on my laptop, downloaded the game onto my iPod and tried to use it, alas neither worked, with the latter crashing just after the first company credits card thingy came in. :( Best Tracks: Life Itself, Youth, Season 2 Episode 3, The Other Side Of Paradise, Cane Shuga, Pork Soda.
January 11, 20179 yr Awesome to see How To Be A Human Being end up in your top 5! It did the same for me, also. January 11, 20179 yr Author DalekTurret32's Favourite Albums Of 2016 4. CLUE: "Underrated electronic album that got nominated for the Mercury Prize this year." THE COMET IS COMING - CHANNEL THE SPIRITS "I found conflict to a bad place I wish I forgot, but I don't know much but it thinks I know I wish I forgot." I haven't heard about this album until I heard it being announced in the Mercury Prize shortlist by Radio 6 Music DJ Lauren Laverne. After hearing this album on Spotify, I can say that it was admirable. The electronic instrumentals flow out really nicely and the production is absolutely fantastic. Probably my favourite electronic album of 2016. Oh, and that brass instrument in Space Carnival... ^_^ . Best Tracks: Space Carnival, New Age, Journey Through The Asteroid Belt, Deep Within The Engine Deck, Nano, Lightyears 3. CLUE: "R&B/Soul singer signed to Daptone records." http://cdn3.pitchfork.com/albums/23086/homepage_large.b0ae2d99.jpg CHARLES BRADLEY - CHANGES "If you ain't gonna do me right, I might just do you in. Ain't it a sin" This album contains some of the best modern R&B/soul music I have heard. I have seen a comment by someone describing him as a "James Brown impersonator" somewhere on the internet (I forgot which site). Yes, the music reminds me of old-time soul artists as James Brown, Sam & Dave and Wilson Pickett. Ain't It A Sin is just such a funky track with its fast-paced guitar phrases and the drums beating on bars 2 and 4, and his cover of Black Sabbath's Changes is a really genial song. The album's retro-soul style gives me the ability to picture the songs from this album as 7-inches with the soul labels on them while being put in generic label sleeves. Best Tracks: Ain't It A Sin, You Think I Don't Know (But I Know), Changes, Good To Be Back Home, Change For The World Now we make it into the Top 2. This is the point where we're close to getting to my number one favourite album of the year. We are looking forward to this moment. 2 will be revealed later on in the countdown. But while we wait, let's look at the remaining clues again. 2. Another Oxford band. They got nominated for the Mercury Prize 5 times so far, but never won. Their 2000 album was released without promotion, and no singles were released from that album.". http://radioheadassets.s3.amazonaws.com/deadairspace/img/088055831.jpg RADIOHEAD - A MOON SHAPED POOL "Dreamers. They never learn, they never learn. Beyond, beyond the point of no return, of no return" I remember the day when I got this album at the time it got put onto physical media format. I bought it on gatefold CD and also managed to pick up a AMSP art print along with a booklet telling you "How To Make Your Own A Moon Shaped Pool Artwork In 66 Easy Steps" (Should've said How To Make Your Own AMSP Artwork In 15 Steps. LOL JK, I'm good with the booklet's title). I even managed to get a 7" of Burn The Witch three months after getting the album. Onto the album! The use of the electronic beats in most of the tracks is laid out very well and the production is very fluent. The violin phrases throughout Burn The Witch are amazing, and so is the music video to the song, which may as well land a spot on my Top 10 Music Videos of 2016 list (Wikipedia have noticed the nods to Camberwick Green and The Wicker Man [original 1973 version, not the 2006 remake where Nicholas Cage is yelling "NOT THE BEES!"] in the video). Daydreaming has an excellent music video directed by Paul Thomas Anderson (known for directing such films as Boogie Nights, Magnolia and There Will Be Blood), and the song sounds really melancholy (sounds like it should be used in a drama film.) And I love the sound of that beat through the first minute and a half of Tinker Tailor Soldier Sky Rich Man Poor Man Beggar Thief (reminds me of downtempo). Plus it was quite mind-blowing to find out that some of those tracks were written by the band a long time ago: The closing track True Love Waits dates to 1995, at least (The same year The Bends was released). This song also appeared on the I Might Be Wrong: Live Recordings album from 2001. Burn The Witch dates to 2000 (The same year Kid A was released). The lyrics of the song appeared on Radiohead's website at some point in 2007. Present Tense dates to 2008 (1 year after In Rainbows was released). Best Tracks: Burn The Witch, Daydreaming, Decks Dark, Present Tense, Identikit, Ful Stop Edited January 12, 20179 yr by DalekTurret32
