So we have the steel tariffs in place. Just to be clear, those fantastic new deals with the USA don't seem to be happening. British steel now costs 25% more in the USA. Farage, pre-referendum, was totally in favour of protectionism and didn't see what harm it did. Perhaps he'd like to comment on the sudden hike on british, EU, Canadian product, and the huge subsequent hike on American products on sale here.

Perhaps he has his tongue so far up Trump's arse he thinks that America's increasing trade wars on the rest of the world (not Russia though) is somehow going to help British workers and British shoppers?

Shouldn't this be in the EU.brexit thread?

No, it's an action created by Trump because he doesnt understand (or doesnt care) about consequences of actions.

On a side note, here's a great tweet which explains his support of the KKK, calling for the execution of 5 innocent black teens, evicting black tenants from his building, and loathing of Obama and everything he stands for:

I'm going to keep retelling this story so it sinks in. In 1983 trump would not allow one of my staff engineers on board his yacht because he was black. We cancelled the contract and he tried to sue me for breech of contract. He lost.

Racist is as racist does....

...and a leaked legal memo to Robert Mueller from Trump's lawyers effectively argues that the President is above the law and can do whatever he wants. Trying to head forthcoming charges off at the pass, clearly.

..and so the transformation to Dictator is complete.

We just have to wait and see whether the FBI and both Houses agree with him after forthcoming elections, or whether his attempts to pardon himself in advance (and effectively retroactively pardon Nixon) work. Only the future of the democracy of the leader of the free world at stake, so nothing much to worry about...

Didn’t Gerald Ford grant Nixon a pardon?

True! I meant excuse him from the prosecution and impeachment in the first place as if that traumatic event of the 70's was all just unnecessary mean-ness to the paragon of virtue that was Richard M. Nixon. And he was a saint in comparison to u-know-who....

keeping up the dictator theme, Trump has learned from the Putin best:

twitter: "Bombshell interview to Breitbart by Ric Grenell, US Ambassador to Germany. He says he will personally intervene in internal politics of Europe to empower anti-establishment conservatives. Directly contradicts State Dept line that Trump admin is neutral"

So, a tinpot dictator trying to destabilise democracy and staff so emboldened by his flagrant disregard of the US constitution that they just come right out and say it. A bit like hypocritical liars Farage and Assange complaining about a real black leader of actual democracy and then go ahead doing the things they lied about Obama doing.

The Tories are going to have to pick sides and it will be telling which side they choose....democracy or interfering foreigners. Love the irony.

On a side issue, perhaps we should run a 'Predict when Trump gets impeached' poll? ;)

well I thought he wouldnt last a year, but I hadn't banked on the corruption inherent in the Republican Party keeping him in power, so it will depend on the mid-terms for numbers of democrats to help the process along, or else the FBI having that cast-iron case (it already exists but they are still tinkering around the edged getting guilty pleas - and then Trump frees them, presumably).

Latest fact: Trump dictated the statement that Trump Jnr issued to deny illegally meeting Russians. The President was guilty of yet another impeachable offence, but is trying to head it off at the pass saying he is above the law because he is President.

I can see homophobe hypocrite Pence stepping in with a deal that he will pardon Trump if he hands over power. Happened before.....

In "news that you wouldn't believe could have happened 3 years ago" news, Donald Trump has given clemency to a great-grandmother who was given a life-sentence for a drugs offence, following lobbying from Kim Kardashian.

People have been informally (albeit not entirely sincerely) talking about Kanye running for President in the future. They may now have to consider the other half of that couple.

Yeah here in Berlin that's gone down like an actual lead balloon and Grenell has already had to come grovelling saying that it's not what he meant at all etc etc etc

Quite a few members of the Bundestag want him on the next plane to the US from Tegel: https://www.politico.eu/article/richard-gre...assador-recall/

There is a major difficulty with this. We are being asked to decide which of Breitbart and a Trump croney are telling the truth when gut instinct tells us that they are both habitual liars.

always go with your gut instincts I say....

Yeah and I don’t think many politicians have bought the sudden u-turn. This guy is supposedly (or has done, my German needs work) hosting the Austrian president at his embassy without informing the Germans. (Or something like that.) He has no friends in Berlin

BREAKING: Robert Mueller just indicted Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort for using intimidation and force against a witness to obstruct justice and for tampering with witnesses. Manafort was charged along with his longtime associate, Russian citizen Konstantin Kilimnik."

Meanwhile Trump uses the G7 summit to promote his Boss and criticise his own country and former President (and previously every other country apart from Russia). Hmmmm......

Trump appears to be self-destructing all of America's trade deals in the aftermath of the G7.

Like with India just for high tariffs for instance. And Canada.

I have to ask, what is it about crippling isolationism that is so appealing that it requires returning to? On both sides of the Atlantic (minor dig at Brexit, but let's keep that to one side and not cross wires too much).

It's all so simple. Trump hates democracy and reasonable intelligent leaders. Can't get along with them.

The ones he loves are those like him: tyrannical ruthless despots without a shred of human emotion. How do I feel about his buddying up to the fat bloke who called him a dotard?

Pretty much this:

Cable news: “Historic Summit” is one way to describe what’s happening but I prefer “For 60 years N Korea has wanted to meet with a US President without giving anything up but they had to wait for a historically stupid and vain President to make it happen.”"

Trump actually called the man who murdered his own brother and uncle a nice guy, and Justin Trudeau - the leader of Canada. Repeat CANADA!!!! - as, essentially a backstabber, his lackeys adding Trudeau was going straight to Hell. He can't string a coherent sentence together, doesn't understand anything about anything and is a complete lying bullying reckless inhuman monster who is trying to destabilise the whole world so he can clean up in riches for him and his devoted flithy rich supporters.

But apart from that he's doing a great job for the whole world. Anyone who supports him after all the evidence that he is a monster have only themselves to blame for everything that's coming to them. Starting with all the workers who Trump said he would protect American jobs for - only to find they hate his guts because he did the exact opposite, and they feel like dumbasses for falling for it.

Trump will cancel any agreement with North Korea anyway, regardless of whether Kim sticks to his side of it. Iran stuck to their agreement with the USA and others and it hasn't done them a lot of good.

The current results in the games being held in a nation run by an anti-democratic crook:
