After Johnson's refusal to stand by him he prob thought he had no choice as Blojo seems unlikely to support once PM, nor his current boss after what he rightly said about him last night.

Whoever was responsible for the leak has created one of the worst moments for British diplomacy in a long time. Johnson is a spineless coward. Shame he didn’t decide to go defending Britain’s sovereignty last night.

Boris should make Farage the Ambassador now. According to Sky News he could as it doesn't necessarily have to be a diplomat. Can be anyone the PM chooses, after consultations with the FO, that The Queen then approves.

Wonder if an appointment will be made before Boris takes office though.

Chris, I can usually stomach your views but please stop trolling on a very serious issue. The whole matter is a disgrace and Johnson is rightly being criticised heavily. There is no way Farage EVER holds this position. The world doesn’t resolve around the USA ffs.

The irony of wanting to leave because the EU to control us, to now wanting to be the US’ little bitches. It’s absolutely disgusting how a head of state believes his administration can not be criticised.

It is possible that a factor in Darroch's resignation right now is so that May will be the one to appoint a replacement and not the next British Prime Minister...

The replacement must be someone who is not a demagogue and is willing to also be critical of Trump, and yes, preferably a qualified diplomat, as it should be. The manchild doesn't seem to understand that ambassadors aren't there to be sycophantic to him, they are representing the interests of their home nation abroad and as such, private communiques home must necessarily be frank for their job to be done properly. Replacing Darroch with someone who is effectively a continuation (Darroch was going to finish his term later this year, so a replacement being the same will be delicious irony) is the only way Britain comes out of this debacle looking at least a little good.

Exactly. I don't agree with Rooney politically on many things but the seriousness of this situation and how unprecedented it is should not be trivialised.

Face facts. Boris is a coward lacking in any sort of moral code or principles and would put himself and his own interests BEFORE that of the national interest in every situation.

This is worrying, apparently the slightest bit of completely understandable criticism which was simply doing his job is enough to throw a hissy fit refuse years of diplomatic relations? And the worst thing is I bet the oaf's now thinking he has that power and that he can do whatever the hell he wants with our ambassador with no one here telling him otherwise, all to get our precious trade deal I suppose...

spent his whole spoilt life throwing hissy fits and bullying....

on the plus side his bestest mate ever (till he got charged) is facing charges of child rape. Trump has attended his parties, and gloried in his love of the younger girls. Trump now has another charge waiting for him to leave power, he'll have to be dragged forcibly out of office it's the only way he isn't going to jail for the rest of his life (or at least spending it in court fighting not going to jail) - barring a Presidential pardon of course, or making his accusers multi-millionaires to drop the charges.

The Twitter thread I found on that yesterday made for disturbing reading. And if true makes Trump very guilty, not just by association but active participant. He's a worse human than I could have ever imagined.

It just emphasises the fact that there is no sacrifice too big for someone else to make in the interests of Boris Johnson's career. The fact that someone who wishes to be PM refused to back a senior ambassador (the representative, it should be remembered, of HM the Q) from an attack by the leader of a foreign power is bad enough. That he did so as a former Foreign Secretary (however much he may try to draw a veil over that particularly abysmal part of his career) is even more shocking.

Blair was frequently accused of being Bush's poodle. I said so myself on occasion. Johnson hasn't even waited to move his kennel into Downing Street to start acting as Trump's poodle.

Fake news. Of course if it's on Twitter it must be true mustn't it?

It's from Trump's own tweets. Just look at what he said about Kim Darroch and tell me how that is befitting of a US president.

Different thing. Though his latest batch of 'stable genius' tweets was if anything even worse. And I totally agree.

Well, read it for yourself. Note I said 'IF' true. This was put aside in 2016 because not enough evidence was available, I never heard about it then and it could have been a smear. But with Trump not distancing himself from registered sex offender and sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein, it's being looked at again. Is it not at all possible?

Or, to put it another way from your point of view, any facts that appear on Twitter must be a lie because they are on Twitter...!

There is a world of difference between some git mouthing off an opinion with no back-up, and someone linking to an article in the respected press which is quoting actual facts. Epstein has already been found guilty but got a light sentence because he's super-rich. Trump gave him a job, cos he also likes younger women, grabbing women by the pussies at whim cos he's famous and rich (his words not mine) and he's not the only sex-offender that Trump loves until it looks like they will take him down with them - at which point he starts lying about his associations having been on the record saying completely different things. That makes him a liar. 100% liar. If you contradict yourself you either lied first time round or are lying now. If you habitually do this then you are a serial liar and nothing you say can be believed and you lose all credibility.

President Trump The Serial Liar.

Hold the front page! Trump has told the truth :o

It was, of course, an accident. He has laid into a number of Democrat senators who happen not to be white. He has told them to go back to where they came from and said that they come from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe. They come from the USA, so he os calling his own administration a complete and total catastrophe

he had to tell a truth sooner or later just by the laws of chance! I hope they responded:

"well white folk dragged us here against our wishes, enslaved us, and took 3 hundred years to bother to stop enslaving us - and only then cos the USA was about to split in half forever. PS your mother was an immigrant, and your wife is an immigrant. That makes your children the children and grandchildren of immigrants. You should all piss off to your own countries you johnny-cum-latelys, my ancestors have been here hundreds of years.

Hugs and kisses

The comment was presumably aimed at Ilhan Omar who was born in Somalia ('if they even have a functioning government at all' can't really describe many other countries).

He was talking about more than one senator.

Out of Ocasio-Cortez, Ayana Pressley and Rashida Tlaib, the others it's believed he's taking aim at, I believe Pressley's family have been in the U.S. longer than the Trump family, and they're all natural-born US citizens. And even if it were just about Omar it still wouldn't be okay, she's been a US citizen for all of her adult life.

He's a literal white supremacist. I don't see how you can argue against that at this point.
