Katy's new single is not what I was expecting at all, I think it'll grow but for now I'm not thinking 'number 1 hit'.

 

'Cloudbusting' also doesn't scream 'hit' either. I quite like it but it's too complex for the GP I reckon.

 

Anne-Marie's track seems alright on first listen, top 10 hit I'd think. It's not on the 'Rockabye' level - but I wasn't too impressed with that initially (which I find hard to believe now!)

 

Galantis remix of 'Shape Of You' is pointless, the B3RG one is better though - changes it somewhat.

After listening to the new Katy Perry track a few times, its a nice song, but for me it doesn't scream out #1 material, its got a nice reggae feel to the track towards the end with Skip Marley, it could grow on me though, saying that I do prefer it at #1 over Ed Sheeran.

Well we still have to wait on the Spotify numbers though, don't we? And it's being promoted very heavily there so I think we'll have more of a clue on how she'll do tomorrow.

Yeah, apparently she's got Spotify on board complete up until her album is released! (Which is in the Summer!)

It was out 2 years ago! He got dropped and the old version was deleted. It's now his second single on a new label, it's mainly targeted at Germany but is available worldwide!

What's prompted the boost for Can I Be Him? That should have been the second single IMHO.

#2 isn't too far away but #1 is probably too far ahead!

I think Katy is doing well so far, about what I expected.

 

I always think of Katy more as an artist that appeals to the everyday music buyer anyway. Her hits were hits because they were so catchy and everyone heard them on radio and bought them, rather than because she had a massive hardcore fanbase who would buy the song right off the bat.

 

I think the song will be a hit when more people hear it. Not sure it will be a #1 or her biggest hit by any means. I'm getting 'Teenage Dream' sized hit from it, rather than it being a 'Roar'.

Your right but she has surely built up enough of a fanbase to have that effect first off. She's doing fine so far but her length of time away has meant she has lost some momentum in terms of a huge iTunes no1 lead.

Yeah, she won't have the front-loadedness fanbase buys of Gaga, but whereever she peaks on iTunes, she won't fall anywhere nearly as fast.
