Normally as we know we're only a day behind with streaming, they must have been having difficulties :drama:

Wednesday Top 40 Update

Singles

1 Ed Sheeran - Shape of You (100.7k)

Those 'Shape Of You' remixes have certainly done the trick for Ed Sheeran!

After declining in both sales and streams every week since it was released (and therefore declining in total chart units too), this week sees an upturn already, after only five days.

This is week 8 for the song, and that total of 100,700 chart units already this week takes it above its week 7, week 6 and week 5 totals. It's very close to its week 4 total of 105,456 too, so this could be the song's fourth most successful week of its eight so far. It could even be its third biggest week, if it can break through 119,658 chart units.

Interesting facts from James Masterson's twitter yday showing the breakdown in sales for the top 2 albums -

Stormzy's album leads the race at the moment. 58% of its sales are digital downloads, 23% are CDs and the rest from streaming.

Narrowly behind is Rag'n'Bone Man. His sales are 75% physical and 23% downloads. Leaving less than 3% to be account for by streams.

James Masterton (not Masterson) wasn't revealing any state secrets here. He was just quoting the stats in this Official Charts update from Monday. (Shame on him if he didn't credit the source of his information.)

It'd be lovely to see ten new entries in the chart - I mean that was an achievement back in the days of held-back releases so to have it in the streaming era is quite something. People are starting to pick up on songs faster.

I wouldn't quite say that when so many of them are from Stormzy's album :kink:

The point still stands - tracks are reaching top 50 on streaming slightly faster these days and entering higher, as we can see from the quite unexpected high debuts of Zedd and Jason Derulo.

I'd say that's more a result of the change in ratio a few weeks ago. although can't be too sure!

Possibility 10 new tracks next week cough Ed, at least most of Stormzy's tracks will be gone.

Is Shape Of You just going to break Bryan Adams' record? No doubt the Harry Styles duet remix will be along in a month's time to prop it up again  Looking at more than 130k on week 8 at #1!

Good to see the overhyped Stormzy look set to miss out on the top then

Yeah it's great to see an independent artist that has unexpectedly captured the imagination, appealed to people who would never normally listen to his genre and a poster bearer of contemporary UK music miss out on the top. What a shame...

Lana is so gonna be 41 again :/ one nanosecond of Love is better than the whole Stormzy album imho :(

(bad loser I know)

Poor Lana, she won't make it next week unfortunately with all the album tracks from Ed Sheeran :nocheer:

That doesn't mean everyone must be championing him for the top spot though :magic:
