Yeah, she's down to #9, but all of Ed's album tracks are dark red (and she is light green) and the numbers are messed up coz I have...

07. Ed - Galway Girl 0.4521

08. Ed - Perfect 0.4377

09. Lorde - Green Light 0.4910

10. Ed - Castle 0.4451

Is it like that for anyone else/does this happen a lot?

Bizarre that Ed's tracks are all already dark red (even the one he performed on The One Show) so I think I might just have a dodgy update tbh.

EDIT: After refreshing like 4 times, writing this post and then refreshing again after I post this... it's obviously sorted itself out lmao.

Yeah, that's a '????' update which totally gives the total opposite colour to the correct update and gives figures of the previous update. Just look for the '????' at the top of the page and you'll know it's wrong.

Correct figures:

Dear God that's depressing. People only really like Ed Sheeran because they're told to like him, his songs are average at best.

I don't even mind his music, Shape Of You and Castle On The Hill are decent/listenable but I think there's a bit of sheep mentality with the public to buy/stream what's popular or hyped the most, it's been a problem with the charts recently. It's annoying because new artists have it harder than ever trying to break through.

What a ridiculous thing to say. Just because you don't like him doesn't mean other people won't. There's no denying his incredible talent. I don't listen to him because other people do, I listen to him because I find some of his songs relatable & his voice is brilliant.

Careful there. He's talented sure, but he's no genius of our time and if anything he's a key example of where some initial promise and heartfelt lyrics from a musician with potential to hit crossed bases turned into huge record label backing to recreate the moment in a way that's accessible to as many people as possible, but also loses the personal uniqueness he had at first. Which is both the reason for his success and why those who... broad strokes here... are more discerning, have a problem with him.

I take him song by song at this stage, Castle On The Hill is a pretty good recreation of his lyrical talent (although nowhere near what he did at first) while Shape Of You is a trend-chasing dull affair. I expect the album to be a mix of that. Jack's right in the way playlists and recommendation lists are set up to encourage people to listen to this non-threatening easy-listening popstar in the background because there's a lot of investment in him which annoys people - but that doesn't mean people can't like him if they really do.

If by recently you mean "the last 65 years" then I completely agree with you.

Castle On The Hill brings back the sort of Snow Patrol type sound to the charts so that is good. Nancy Mulligan is a better Irish influenced song than Galway Girl I think.

There is a sheep mentality, considering the Chainsmokers domination in dance in the charts is becoming like the David Guetta domination in the early 2010s, and there are plenty of better dance songs out there better imo than Martin Garrix's two recent rather generic future bass songs, but they seem to be popular because he's Martin Garrix and they both feature well known vocalists who have had hits before. Tbh I would call Martin Garrix's two recent songs very loosely dance as they are not very dancey songs, to me they are just pop songs with a not very danceable to (imo) electronic drop.

It's since streaming started really when people were literally spoon fed what to listen to because they're too lazy to see what songs they actually like themselves.

I totally see what Jack means. Ed is forced down the throats as some hugely credible artist, it's quite inescapable and a lot of people I know that know pretty much nothing about music automatically 'love' Ed Sheeran. That's not to say he doesn't have some good music, but he really is pushed as 'real music', when a lot of people who loved him are the same people who'd turn their noses up at out and out pop - not knowing that Ed uses a lot of the same co-writers and producers as those artists.
