July 19, 20177 yr Initial reaction: the production is amazing but I actually think this is her weakest album. The melodies are weak and the a lot of the choruses are repetitive. The standard of the songs are on a par with her demos, like, they're good but you can tell why they didn't make it onto an album. I have a feeling a lot of songs will grow on me though.
July 19, 20177 yr Gosh, I sure wish I could listen to this album now. If only that were possible, I'd be so happy! Umi!
July 19, 20177 yr Joe! Only you can save me! I'm fine! Lizzie can also save you. Looking forward to your thoughts. I think this has overtaken Melodrama as my favourite album of the year. I'm not going to do Honeymoon dirty because I thought there were a lot more highlights than some made out. But the lyrics alone here have so many levels of depth and intrigue, there are so many songs that I have instantly fallen in love with here.
July 20, 20177 yr The album is really more "lost" for life than "lust" have to listen further but for me the biggest issue is Architecture being excluded, which is better than anything on the album except Love
July 20, 20177 yr After a couple of listens I think this is probably my least favourite of hers, I'm only really liking a few. Far too early to tell though, I didn't get into 'Honeymoon' at all at first and now it's my favourite of hers.
July 20, 20177 yr 13 Beaches and Cherry are the Lana formula perfected, so good. The album is nice but a little bloated. Is anyone else getting Born to Die sequel vibes? Ultraviolence remains the one~
July 20, 20177 yr The album is nice but a little bloated. Honestly, this is one of the few albums that hits as many as 16 tracks that doesn't feel bloated to me. I'd lose Coachella and possibly White Mustang (Yes, I know it's my name but I needed a noun) but other than that it's perfect.

July 21, 20177 yr Omggfggggg I can't wait to go to the store and buy this shit when I get back. I haven't listened yet as I've been in Florida (kilos)! Don't want to spoil a Lana experience by not being able to submerge myself in it. I'm hoping there are some bops on it while being as perfectly fluid as Ultraviolence was.
July 21, 20177 yr Just bought it, about halfway through it now. My favorites besides the singles so far are Cherry and Summer Bummer. But all the tracks I've heard so far are absolutely gorgeous!
July 23, 20177 yr I really love this album. I love every Lana album but if there was one issue I could point out with most of them it's that they really struggled with cohesiveness in a couple of directions - Ultraviolence and Honeymoon were both really consistent moods with a couple of songs disrupting that, and Born To Die was probably a bit too consistent (I'm not sure where I stand on Paradise with this). This album is really different for me in that it actually has something of a gradient of variance without ever really having an extreme jump - I was worried about 'Summer Bummer' doing that, but actually it fits in pretty well with the rest. This is... the third album in a row where she's thrown me something of a curveball with the overall sound, as I expected it to be a more lightweight album than it is after the first two singles + 'Coachella', but I'm really happy with the direction she ended up taking even though I love the songs in that vein. Overall, the album is about what I expected Honeymoon to be, which is basically Born To Die with broader horizons, and I'm so happy to get consistent hip hop influences back in her production. I do think the album is a bit long overall, and while none of the songs in isolation drag the album down, I do think a few could be cut to make the album a bit more concise - probably 'White Mustang', 'Heroin' and 'Change' would go for me. My highlights are 'Cherry' (so many moments in this song), 'Get Free', 'When The World Was At War' and... 'Coachella', actually. I think all of those songs add something to her discography that wasn't before and they're such refreshing listens as a result. I adore how perfect a pair 'Love' and 'Get Free' make as opener and closer, and actually a major strong point I think this album has is its tracklist. It flows so well and it's bookended by the perfect opener and perfect ending. It makes it such a satisfying listen. I don't really know where to rank this in terms of Lana albums, primarily because I've never really been able to rank them against each other. I love all of them for quite different reasons and none of them are really perfect. I got by far the most enjoyment from Born To Die but that's the most difficult one bar Paradise to listen to now, whereas Ultraviolence and Honeymoon have both gotten less use overall but work for me pretty well these days. I think Lust For Life will be grouped with the latter but with a stronger start, so maybe it is my favourite, actually. But that feels weird, so I think I'll stick with not having a ranking. I'm so happy to hear that she's already making new songs, by the way. Hoping for a new album next year. EDIT: Oh and I love the lyrics and themes on this album. So great hearing an expanded universe.
July 23, 20177 yr White Mustang and When The World Was At War We Kept Dancing are my favourite album tracks *.*
July 23, 20177 yr Possibly album of the year, definitely between this & Melodrama! This is legit everything I want from Lana, so so perfect <3 Love is still my favourite track and Beautiful People Beautiful Problems, In My Feelings & 13 Beaches are my fave album tracks! Will do a proper ranking later *.* All I need now is for Lana to do a tour in the UK 🙏
July 23, 20177 yr I'm so glad you love the album Umi, great write up. I do agree it could be shorter but at the same time I don't think there's a single dud in the 16 tracks. I agree re the expanded universe too, it really feel like Lana is opening her eyes personally and opening her mind to us.
