There was a press screening today for the EastEnders spin-off "Redwater" that stars Kat & Alfie.

All indications point to the show starting in a few weeks time (sometime during May). The most recent details come from The Irish Sun: https://www.thesun.ie/tvandshowbiz/tv/80684...ew-broadchurch/

SHANE Richie has teased that the new EastEnders spin-off set in rural Ireland will be the ‘next Broadchurch’.

The Walford favourites will star in new series Redwater, where they arrive in the tiny, fictional seaside village in Ireland on the trail of Kat’s son, who she was forced to give up when she gave birth.

While the producers have remained tight-lipped over the storyline, speaking to the Irish Daily Star, Shane has billed the quest for the truth as one the locals would prefer remained buried.

He revealed: It’s like Broadchurch. It’s a dark thriller we never really referenced before on EastEnders.

“I hope EastEnders fans will watch it, and non-fans give it a chance it cause it a good thriller.”

Previously, Shane has said the tone of the show will differ greatly from EastEnders, saying it’s “a bit like Broadchurch meets The Wicker Man”.

With EastEnders not being great at the moment, it might be quite nice to have something new to watch  Hopefully we should get some of the press reviews soon from those who went to the preview screening to find out whether it's any good or not!

Jeez, Shane looks ancient in that pic :drama:

Really looking forward to this! EE is absolutely brutal right now so it's refreshing that we can focus on characters outside of the mess that is Walford atm

The more I hear about it, the less I am enjoying the thought of watching. I'm sure it'll be visually stunning and well produced and all, but, in regards to the actual story, I feel it will damage Kat and Alfie as characters and their backstory even more. Are we really meant to believe they naturally look like that? They've aged about 10 years and I heard that, in Walford time, the events of this spin-off has already happened.
The whole thing is a really odd premise. I'm not sure why they just didn't make it an original series with new characters but still have Jessie and Shane as the main characters. It just seems completely separate to Eastenders itself both in references and in tone and, the project seems to have been continually pushed back showing the BBC don't have confidence in it anymore.
Kat could really do with being back in Eastenders. The show is so dull right now that I can't even find things to take the mick out of.

I think this was probably just a vanity project for DTC to get him off Eastenders tbh, but I'm willing to give it a chance. It has a decent cast, so it just depends on the storyline. Hopefully we get a first trailer or review soon!

Finally!

I do wonder how this will start and hopefully shows Kat and Alfie established as they've been gone from EastEnders for so long

This seems really good, I don't even watch Eastenders anymore but this looks decent!
I've been looking forward to this starting ever since Kat and Alfie left Eastenders in 2015 (before returning briefly.) Unfortunately I've got a horrible feeling it's going to be a hot mess.
Shane Ritchie looks old and hagged in this and even Kat looks older. The trailer looked a bit of a mess from what I saw.
Kat looks great and has excellent styling, but this seems veery different to Eastenders. I think it shoulda been a separate series, too.

I'm still thinking this was probably a vanity project to get rid of DTC from EastEnders. I just hope they bring Kat back to the main show after this because she really is needed! Alfie not so much...
I dont have high hopes for this, i will watch cautiously. I agree about Kat, she is needed back in the main show. Kat and Stacey work good together. I would welcome Kat back to the show without Alfie.

I have a feeling this is going to be awful. I don't even know why I think that

I hope I'm proved wrong! "The next Broadchurch" I think not, though..

I don't like what they've done to Kat - they've changed her too much to suit the storyline :/

It was mostly enjoyable though!
