It's more Major Lazer than anything. It's exactly what a song on The Fame would have sounded like if Major Lazer were the go-to producers in 2009 instead of RedOne! It's on trend but it's still quite Gaga but there's the perfect pop melodies you wouldn't get from anyone else.

I know that The Chainsmokers took influence from Major Lazer (especially Lean On), but I think that in 2017 people associate the current pop-sound more closely with The Chainsmokers. Especially since they've had a strong run of Top 10 hits over the last twelve months while Major Lazer's last single was much more dancehall (Run Up).

I think Gaga will probably lose her #1 spot by tomorrow night and then start to fall reasonably fast. The fact her Spotify will hold her back and she also has two whole days missing, I think she will chart somewhere between 25-35 officially. Should definitely be on for being a new entry this week for sure which is still great. I do think due to the missing days, it may be somewhat of a Steps moment though.

Given the strength of the song, I can see it possibly climbing overall in weeks to come though. She hasn't had a song that has got many streams on Spotify yet, but this kinda sound seems to do well on streaming sites, so maybe this can finally break that curse? Fingers crossed.

Just heard the Gaga track, really nothing special, preferred Perfect Illusion actually.

And I think ppl are getting a bit carried away/ambitious with regards to how it'll perform officially.

Well it is very impressive that she can make the #1 on iTunes here with a release that nobody even knew was coming. I honestly thought it might get to like #30 on iTunes. I know Perfect Illusion did the same, but that was a lead single with a build up. Katy Perry went to #1 on iTunes with Rise but a few months later Chained to the Rhythm couldn't manage it.

Omg, Lady GaGa has released a song and gone to #1 on iTunes and will fall down to #26 by Tuesday.

People do get very carried away when she releases a song like she is the Messiah that was risen on Easter Day and being compared to Jesus.

Yeah, the fact that The Cure has gone #1 yet CTTR didnt is very promising. Especially considering there was no build up to the songs release, as Joe has already pointed out.

I doubt this will go top 10 but she's looking at a top 20 hit with a lengthy run which is absolutely fantastic for her.

It depends on how good her streaming is. If she gets a Hot Hits UK add tomorrow I assume she'll go top 15 but otherwise, I'd say top 25.

That's a thing called a joke :kink:

Only GaGa, Rihanna and maybe Beyonce would get #1. Any other female singer who you would think get there if they released a song suddenly?

Anyway that was a joke post above.

Jess Glynne if she had hype. Adele. Katy Perry if the time was right.

I think Chained likely would've made #1 on iTunes at the current level of sales, remember it was released at a time when the likes of Shape, Castle, You Don't Know Me and Human were all selling relatively highly!

Beyoncé wouldn't. Rihanna certainly has the potential to.

I think Beyoncé would have raced to #1 if she'd released Formation to iTunes instantly! Remember it only went onto iTunes when Lemonade got released, and it still made the iTunes top 10, possibly top 5? She just chooses silly release strategies

Beyonce deifnatley would. Even when Lemonade was released like 4 of the album tracks went top 10 on iTunes. She hasn't done a traditional single release in a long time... but if Formation was released right off the batt of the hype, instead of being a free song on Tidal it would have gone to #1 on iTunes and maybe could have even made it officially, if released on Spotify too.

Honestly I think any Beyonce release now would be a huge steaming force, she'd easily have been the most streamed female artist on Spotify last year, shame really.

Oops Jo beat me

do songs usually fall hard during the night in the UK? Should we expect a lot of dark reds for Gaga, or white/light red updates?

I'd expect her to make a few dark red updates now and stabilise once she drops to around 5 or so..
