That whole episode has been ridiculous. Tim Farron could have handled it a lot better but his voting record makes it clear that he is definitely not homophobic. The same cannot be said of Theresa May.

Well I'm gay and I trust Theresa May far more than Tim Farron when it comes to supporting gay people. Farron failed time and time again to give a clear answer on whether he thought gay sex was a sin and he's the leader of the so-called Liberal Democrats, are you actually kidding me! I've watched several speeches from Theresa May in the past year and she has never failed to mention and include gay people when she talks about equality and aspiration.

Then you need to get a f***ing brain and fast. May talks the talk but she has voted against key LGBT equality legislation consistently throughout her 'career'.

Unlike Scottish nationalists, I live in the present not the past. Tim Farron in 2017 failed to give a clear answer on whether he thought gay sex is a sin, if he was the leader of the BNP party then I wouldn't expect anything different but as the leader of the Liberal Democrats, that is seriously shocking.

Look at their respective voting records. Farron has consistently supported gay rights in the division lobby. May hasn't.

I said earlier that he could have handled it better. He probably thought that his voting record spoke for itself and that he didn't need to say anything. Sadly, he under-estimated the willingness of the tabloids to fabricate a story when their wasn't one.

This is a discussion on LGBT rights, for which he has an excellent track record in supporting equality. It's a testament to his liberal values that he would set aside his Christian faith to support LGBT rights, unlike Theresa who has consistency voted against numerous equality provisions and no doubt only did a u-turn in 2013 to support same-sex marriage because it was a government policy, and opposing it would have forced her to resign from the Cabinet.

So according to you, you'd rather trust a woman who only backs LGBT rights when it suits her career progression, rather than a man who has consistently throughout his career for no personal gain. Ok.

You appear to have mixed Scottish Nationalism and Unionism up. I'll give you a hint, Unionism is the one that wanks itself to sleep every night over a copy of the 1707 Act of Union and of images of Rule Britannia. ;)

Tory leaning tabloids no doubt thrilled to have someone to scapegoat so no one actually looked at May's record.

you can't cherry pick where you get your information from, he has very explicity said he does not believe gay sex is a sin and gave a very detailed answer on why he hasn't answered that question in the past :')

if the worst thing they can throw at farron is this, i have absolute faith in him. he's dealt with this with such class. i'm really looking forward to the TV debates to really put him on that national stage, i think he's an incredible leader
Let's not go that far. The man is a complete f***ing moron but when you've only got 8 MPs you take what you can get. (still better than May)
Am I the only one that is surprised that he's gay?

Bringing it back to clinging onto the last shreds of hope of the Tory landslide being prevented locally, I'm cautiously optimistic the Lib Dems can take back Portsmouth South if they have a really good election. Whilst Portsmouth went for Brexit overall, the south (i.e. most of what I'd call Portsmouth City rather than the neighboring suburban shitholes like Cosham and Drayton) was actually a fairly comfortable remain win by most estimates and the yellows didn't lose it by that much so if Labour/Green voters vote tactically then they can take it.

Eastleigh's the other one that's a potential non-Tory winner seat but that's more of a long shot since the Tories are going to swallow up the quite substantial UKIP vote there which is more of a mountain to climb. I am crossing everything though!

eastleigh could be interesting! i'm living quite north of soton and i've only seen the lib dems out and about/posters for them so far, and a lot of anti tory graffiti, but of course there's a lot of students here so it's barely surprising :')

yeah he's by far and away the best out of may/corbyn. he's not really a household name yet which is what i was more implying the TV debates can do for him! still frequently hearing "tim farron hu???"

[/late] I took the ISideWith quiz a few days ago, Labour were top for me with 76% but Lib Dems, SNP (lol) and Green were bunched up right behind, then the Tories on about 50%, then UKIP and BNP (again, lol) a bit further back (although like everyone else I'm not getting anything close to 0 for them like I did with most of the Republicans when I took the American version of this quiz, I assume there are just more things in this country that everyone agrees with...)
Could you actually engage with the discussion?

Thanks.

Bitch, I was responding to DanG deciding between Labour and Lib Dem - I couldn't BE more on topic!!!! :arrr:

It's happened to just about every Lib Dem (and Liberal) leader for as long as I can remember. Even Paddy Ashdown went into his first election as leader with a very low recognition factor. It sums up just how much political coverage is slanted towards two parties.
