May 13, 20178 yr I don't think sympathy played any role into his victory. I detest it but people across the continent clearly didn't, you could hear the love in the room for it. I do object to it's victory but in the same way I object to Ukraine winning last year and Eric Saade being beaten by Italy and Azerbaijan. i.e. the same way everyone's slightly miffed that Europe doesn't share your exact taste (bless San Marino getting 1pt in the Semi).
May 13, 20178 yr Anyone wanting to indulge in some 'disposable fast food music' is welcome to join me in listening to this classic: LOL i actually miss the trashy eurovision days 1CdD3pvujIs Yep, I'm tasteless like that. Edited May 13, 20178 yr by Euphorique
May 13, 20178 yr Music is music. Whether he meant it or not, he basically said that only the type of music HE makes is real music. That's plain disrespectful, any music is real music and said 'disposable' music has saved MILLIONS of lives and made millions of people happy. Mistranslation or not I agree, it came across at least, in the only bit he had to make an impression with his personality, as twatty. Even the absolute worst like Spain is still music, the great thing about Eurovision is that it's so many different types of songs, from rap yodelling to 90s infused power ballads to jazzy love ballads. I hope this doesn't make an influx of boredom personified like that, but then Jamala didn't inspire a lot of political emotional ethnic songs so it's jumping the gun a bit to assume that
May 13, 20178 yr LOL i actually miss the trashy eurovision days 1CdD3pvujIs Yep, I'm tasteless like that. YES SVELTANA!!!!!!! What a fast food music stone cold CLASSIC. My first year of caring about Eurovision, this song has so many good memories for me. (get it up ya Mr Portugal 'real music' 2017)
May 13, 20178 yr Also, not being funny or nothing but Salvador is also (from what I can tell) on the autistic spectrum/has a minor disability so the comments here are a teensy weensy bit close to stepping over the line of acceptability. Not handing out warnings or anything because you've all generally been fine but just a red flag before somebody gets too impassioned and says something they'd regret!
May 13, 20178 yr Author I'd say after '1944' and 'Amar Pelos Dois', you'd do well to come with a banger next year! So Sweden lol
May 13, 20178 yr First time hearing all the songs aside from UK and Italy tonight and I'm OBSESSED with Belgium's entry. I just wish it maybe had a more experienced singer as she did seem absolutely terrified. The winner was nice, obviously there were other more personal standouts but I do get why it won. I think people are being a bit overdramatic with his speech too. Beilliant result for Lucie in the juries! She performed it amazingly and the staging was pretty perfect too. It's just a shame that we'll always have an uphill battle with the televotes. Obviously, I'm not being like omg everyone hates us but I think we're in the position where we have to do a bit more than many others to convince people to pick up the phone and vote for us.
May 13, 20178 yr I'd say after '1944' and 'Amar Pelos Dois', you'd do well to come with a banger next year! So Sweden lol Somebody call Danny Saucedo THIS INSTANT!
May 13, 20178 yr Oh I have SO many things to say about the juries' complete lack of taste this year. Not Portugal, because the masses got with that too, but the masses were (as they were last year and in 2015) so much more accurate in finding good and fun tracks for the contest and backing them while the juries seem to be liking tracks that were more likely to have been conceived in a record producer's room to be "on trend". Sometimes I think the juries forget they're watching a show for fun and get their inner Guardian music critic out above all else. Arguably this might be what they're for but when it makes boring tracks like Australia that nearly no one actually liked enough to vote for come top 10, it feels rather antithetical to the contest's aims.
May 13, 20178 yr I guess this is a reward for all the years Portugal flopped unfairly with actual good songs  Edited May 13, 20178 yr by Euphorique
May 13, 20178 yr Also, ONUKA and Jamala were two of the best ever interval acts!! ONUKA in particular were spectacular :o I normally switch off/do something else during the interval but I was really captivated by them both!

May 13, 20178 yr The UK would've been top 10 if they still used the normal system.. How do you know that, are the split results out yet?
May 13, 20178 yr Oh I did win some money at least! Forgot I had £1 on Portugal at 12/1 as my contingency bet! Wish I'd had money on Norway to come top 10, I had such a strong feeling they'd dark horse this...but had them as an each-way bet (top 4) which was too optimistic.
May 13, 20178 yr Have just given Portugal's song a listen (I'll hear the rest of the songs at some point in the near future) and have to say while I can absolutely see why so many people hated it, I really liked it. Very classy and he has a great voice. Probably my favourite of the few songs I've heard. And that makes 3 great winners out of the last 4 (and one awful one, bloody Sweden) Portugal / Bulgaria / Moldova top 3 - what a year for the underdogs *.* I'd also LOVE if this result could somehow encourage more countries to send non-English language songs. Won't hold my breath tho
