One to watch for the awards season. The trailer is SO uplifting it's crazy! I can only imagine the film being an absolute JOY to watch.

Was just about to post this :heehee: Really hoping Jackman and Michelle emerge as awards contenders especially, the former looks PERFECT for this sort of role. The music sounds great too so I have really high hopes for this, love a good musical

OUTSTANDING.

SO EPIC. It reminds me of 'Hands (Song For Orlando)'!

Hugh Jackman looks made for this role, excited to see him in this the most! The songs sound really good too, a shame that it seems like the awards hype for this has completely disappeared :(

Really incredibly excited for this! The soundtrack is so good  Really hope it doesn't disappoint!

Really enjoyed this. The plot was a bit all over the place but it was so uplifting and the songs are great. The choreo for Rewrite the Stars was fantastic!

I do find Hugh Jackman’s singing voice a little annoying, when Zac Efron takes over vocals near the end of ‘The Greatest Show’ it sounds so much better. (That song sounds oddly like Halo in parts)

Welp. Not getting the best reviews.
Seems to be one of those that is splitting Critics and Audience reactions. This time it's the opposing way as opposed to Critics adoring it and Audience hating it etc..

Nothing but good things from people I know!

Just seen this and totally agree, the plot is far from the strongest point but it's certainly a really enjoyable watch due to the way it looks and the soundtrack, as well as the likeability of the cast and characters. Hugh Jackman just has such a charisma about him

I watched the trailer for this and it thought it looked great, definitely tempted to go and see it... Seems like it could be the perfect film to lift those January blues!

Just got out of seeing this. Agree that the plot was a bit all over the place but such a fantastic spectacle to watch!

A lot of fun and so enjoyable! The music was great as well.

Was quite obvious though that the young Barnum and Rebecca Ferguson were not actually singing. Still fantastic though!

I loved this, the big cast numbers were amazing, the dancing just brill. All the songs were killer and no filler too.

I think the only real plot issue is each element of the plot and story seem to run seperately and not be intertwined. What I mean is 1 plot point would play out then onto the next and thet never ran concurrently.

Despite mixed reviews - (which are a bit harsh given the fact it should have 3/5 from most critics for the positives alone), it seems like there’s a lot of buzz drumming up for the film. The soundtrack is #1 on iTunes and This is Us could be a legitimate hit!

It would be great if word of mouth made this a hit and proved the critics wrong. It is so feel good and its public rating on rotten tomatoes and google are very high.

It is kind of sad reviewers sat watching it not just enjoying it for the 2 hours of escapism and positivity it is. Instead criticising it for historical inaccuracies and not being some deep plot when it isn't meant to be either. It is like reviewing a Slipknot album criticising it for not having tearful ballads when it obviously wasn't meant to have them.

Agreed - a lot of the time with musicals you don't have to expect it to be a huge drama with intertwining plot points. Obviously there are examples like Dreamgirls and Chicago which really nail the balance, but I feel like the critics are judging this as they would with say a period drama, taking this film a bit too seriously. As you said it's just a series of events that happened, they weren't linked together that well and it just jumped a bit which was my issue plot wise but going to see a musical I just wanted it to be a fun nice watch, which it 100% was and that's what the average movie goer is going to care about. It was a fun couple of hours that draws you into that world and puts on a damn good show (pun intended) about it, it doesn't have to be a frame by frame historically accurate re-enactment of Victorian era New York

From what I gather it had a very good 2nd week in the US box office after an average first weekend. See how it does internationally, I feel like it might just keep growing as people like us chat about what an enjoyable 2 hours it was.

Also the soundtrack is set to go top 10 in the US and is in tbe top 2 on Amazon and itunes here. So hopefully more press and exposure if the songs take off.

This is fab! I normally don't care for musicals, but most of the songs are great and ones you could easily listen to outside the movie, which is quite rare. The story is cheesy and predictable and more than a little fanciful with the facts but it's a feelgood romp and Hugh is fab.
