I think the era will end up similar to Delirium. Although maybe a #12 peak for the ead tbh.

I love Ellie and Bright Lights remains one of my top five favourite albums ever but I can't help feel shes lost her star appeal so soon; Delirium had one decently sized single (excluding LMLYD) and she didn't capitalise on any hype enough so whatever this single is like it needs to be killer. She's not a big enough name imo to sustain huge gaps between material.

Yeah, it's a shame they didn't go for it. I'm pretty sure it'd have been a better decision to come back with that as the actual lead single.

I wasn't particularly fond of the album but there were definitely some hits on there. They really dropped the ball.

 

Something in the Way You Move screams hit lead single. On My Mind was too divisive and different for her (and not very good).

i absolutely concur LOL. if she was more concerned about the roots of her music than the roots of her hair she might have got somewhere!!!!

I disagree, her first 2 albums are good and some of her singles are amazing (Lights, Army, Figure 8)

I'm intrigued by new material but I felt at the time - and still feel now - that "On My Mind" massively killed her career momentum. It never felt right as a 'lead' single.

I loved On My Mind! I think Lost & Found should’ve been the lead tbh

On My Mind is enough of a bop but it was a really odd lead, it was trying to be too many things at once and a bit overly crafted for radio. Something In The Way You Move really would have made the most sense as a lead, it was poppier and radio-ready but still felt like her. Anyone could have done On My Mind, and part of Ellie's whole appeal was that she had a bit of a unique edge and her songs really used her voice, On My Mind is a great pop song but just not very her.

 

I know Burn also had the same feel, I guess that's where it went downhill a bit for her rather than OMM but that as a lead didn't help for the next era.
