Posted August 1, 20177 yr We had 39 votes but what is Buzzjack's favourite Selena Gomez song? :o Some teasers: - 3 songs had an average below 6, not none were below 6. - Only the top 4 had an average above 8. Hype/speculate x
August 1, 20177 yr Author 20th FALLING DOWN 5.43 7dADaxOsjQQ UK chart peak: N/A US chart peak: #82 Highest score: 8 (all is vanity, Spadam, Tim, Jade, SamJudd) Lowest score: 0 (blacksquare, Davidson, cqmerqn) The first casulaty is Selena Gomez & The Scene's debut single, her first proper taste of a music career. I do really like this but I think it's about right, it's not a vintage song by her and is very of its time, although I do jam to the pop-rock vibes when I hear it. This had a few solid fans and a few hater but seemed mostly to get meh/middling scores.
August 1, 20177 yr I wasn't expecting her earlier rockier tracks to do too well here so I'll take that on the chin :P
August 1, 20177 yr I can't see anything other than 'Good For You' (deservedly) winning to be honest...interested in seeing how 'Bad Liar' and 'Fetish' fare so early on.
August 1, 20177 yr Author 19th TRUST NOBODY 5.80 o9kCz5ew1hE UK chart peak: #92 US chart peak: #106 Highest score: 9 (darkstar79) Lowest score: 0 (cqmerqn) Next up is a recent collab of Selena's, a Cashmere Cat on which she features with Tory Lanez. This was my lowest score in this rate, but still a 7 oops. I therefore think it's about in the right place, it's a good enough song for a random collab but not up there with her best.
August 1, 20177 yr Author 18th ROUND AND ROUND 5.93 UfcvO2t8Ntg UK chart peak: #47 US chart peak: #24 (Platinum) Highest score: 10 (Liam) Lowest score: 1 (blacksquare) WHAT THE f*** BUZZJACK. This isn't her ABSOLUTE best but I love this :( I kind of get that the chorus is a bit repetitive and robotic, it could be more than it is from what you feel of the verses building. But this shouldn't be than a few that are above it.
August 1, 20177 yr Nothing worth crying over. Round & Round is better than I remembered though, but I wouldn't consider myself a fan before. Her voice is not in its element in her more bubblegum pop sound. She sounds so much better in her ballads and mid tempos.
August 2, 20177 yr Author 17th WHO SAYS 6.09 BzE1mX4Px0I UK chart peak: #51 US chart peak: #21 (3x Platinum) Highest score: 11 (Tim) Lowest score:0 (blacksquare) This was the lowest song to receive an 11, poor Tim </3 This guilty pleasure "just be yourself" anthem was a bit of a departure for Selena, being more acoustic and simple than her dance-pop bangers and pop-rock ventures. I feel this actually suited her voice a bit more, she doesn't have the best voice but there's something about it working on this sort of song. I can see why people might think this is basic, cringey or twee but I personally really like this.
August 2, 20177 yr Awww, I remember loving Who Says when I was in my early teens - I found it really uplifting at the time and now it's sort of stuck with me  That, LYLALS and Naturally are my holy trinity of Selena & the Scene tracks, the rest can go to be honest :heehee:
August 2, 20177 yr Round And Round has such a gratey and repetitive chorus :/ the lyrics aren't something I can enjoy either to be honest. Who Says out already? :snif: it's beautiful in every way. Damn you Buzzjackers! :arrr:
August 2, 20177 yr Omg that poor song :( It deserved to much better, it got me through a lot of shit lmao
August 2, 20177 yr 'Falling Down' is probably my biggest loss here so far. I enjoyed Selena's debut album with The Scene way more than I was expecting to!
August 4, 20177 yr Author 16th HIT THE LIGHTS 6.27 8c2ahBlTPz0 UK peak: N/A US peak: #103 (Platinum) Highest score: 10 (Harry) Lowest score: 0 (blacksquare) Yet another Scene single falls! This isn't m fave of the Scene songs, in fact it's probably only better than Falling Down but I do really like it still. It's a nice unassuming teeny sounding dance-pop banger, but this is a sound that she did much better in a more grown up/sexier way solo on songs like Undercover and Slow Down. This didn't set the charts alight position wise but thanks to streaming figures (the US also includes youtube for some reason), it did go Platinum in the US.
August 4, 20177 yr Author 15th SAME OLD LOVE 6.47 9h30Bx4Klxg Highest score: 11 (all is vanity, Lotti, NickF1, Tombo) Lowest score -1 (Dobbo, Cremey, Tawdry Hepburn) UK peak: #81 (Silver) US peak: #6 (2x Platinum) Easily the most marmite song in this rate, it received a lot of 11s and 10s as well as solid 8 or 9 scores but also a lot of lows, including three of you who deem it her absolute worst to the degree it warranted it -1 :o I personally LOVE this, it could've been my 11 but then I had GFY, Hands To Myself and Come & Get It vying for it too, she's one of those artists whereI find it SO hard to pick just one fave, even when I split the Scene and her solo stuff. GFY-SOL-HTM is one of the best singles runs ever. I just love the vibe of this, it's sort of sassy and moody, but understated and unassuming rather than an in your face f*** you anthem. It's excellently written by Charli XCX and Stargate and should be like 10 places higher tbh.
August 4, 20177 yr 'Same Old Love' is worse than green sick. Edited August 4, 20177 yr by Tawdry Hepburn
August 4, 20177 yr Yeah, 'Same Old Love' is borderline unlistenable/headache-inducing to me. The whole thing feels dated, completely lifeless and annoyingly repetitive with a strained, nasally, grating vocal. Undoubtedly her worst single (and as has been said, the most marked dip in quality between successive singles I've ever witnessed) so I'm pretty surprised it made the top 15, even with those 11s and its (inexplicable) US success! No losses so far anyway. Though I quite liked 'Falling Down' having never heard it before the rate, so I guess that feels like an undeserving last placer~ Edited August 4, 20177 yr by Noahspike
