6th LOVE YOU LIKE A LOVE SONG 7.89

UK peak: #58

US peak: #22 (4x Platinum)

Highest score: 11 (Harry)

Lowest score: 3 (blacksquare, Davidson)

This electropop anthem imbued with euro disco beats is the 2nd highest Scene song! I think it's definitelt one of her top few from that period of her career, it's so pulsing and cool. The lyrics detailing a honeymoon phase of a relationship are a bit sickly sweet but the instrumentation and production is banging and definitely makes up for it for an altogether BANGER of a song.

5th THE HEART WANTS WHAT IT WANTS 7.94

UK peak: #30

US peak: #6 (Platinum)

Highest score: 11 (Jade, Josh, Tyler, Noahspike)

Lowest score: 4 (Davidson, Juranamo, awardinary, Dexton)

Kicking off the top 5 is a song that was a bit of a turning pont for Selena, as it marked her transition into a more mature, sexy R&B orientated sound. The production was much more minimalist and hypnotic, the lyrics were darker and brooding, and this was the first song I really thought Selena had nailed how to use her admittedly limited voice to maximise its sexy and coy tones, no matter how much I enjoyed what came before. This isn't as good as Fetish or Good For You in the coy, sexy stakes but it's still a brilliant song.

Next to bow out is the bhangra pop banger that marked her transition from front-woman to solo star as her first proper single under just Selena Gomez. It perfectly mixes the bhangra influences with a dubstep-ish drop, making an attitude sass filled tune that the likes of Rihanna would have killed for. This was the poster child for Selena's more mature image that works for her so well now. It might not be the best, most original example, but this just screams banger and was a solid hit for Selena both sides of the Atlantic, immediately showing huge potential for her solo career that has since been realised and then some.

Sometimes I'll be in the mood for THWWIW, but the rest of the time I think it's just not as exciting to blast to my ears. C&GI only 4th? :o definitely a great comeback single. In fact, I've forgotten what songs are left to be revealed! Suspense

Happy AF C&GI isn't top 3. I don't hate it, it's just supremely overrated.

'The Heart Wants What It Wants' is, imo, the best pop song in her discography. Also the best track to come from this generations teen pop idols. (Demi, Miley, Beiber, etc).

Flawless.

My favourite song coming 5th in both the Demi and Selena rates!

'The Heart Wants What It Wants' is utterly captivating <3 it will be hard for her to ever top that for me.

No surprises here as the highest Scene song is pop banger Naturally <3 This is simply a fabulous pop song, one of her most simple and arguably basic but you cannot deny that huge chorus. It doesn't try to be anything more than it is, but it's perfect for it.

That leaves a top 2 from her last era Revival - pop anthem Hands To Myself and sexy slow jam Good For You battling it out!

I wouldn't personally put that so high on my own ranking but it's one of those songs that I'd expect the majority to agree on here :D

I like Naturally a lot but definitely wouldn't have given it my 11 over Good For You!

I'm sure it's just a typo though, easily done haha.

Good For You has to win surely 😍

Also, perfect top two! Definitely her best two songs.
I was a bit shocked with you at first, Cremey. :o

There were two 11s, one for the Scene songs and one for solo and you gave one to each!

Winner coming tomorrow btw guys I cba to do write ups now and forgot earlier as I was juggling about 8 things

Surprised Naturally is so high tbh, it is great but feels a little bit dated now.

Good For You to win please  but wouldn't begrudge Hands to Myself!

Oh yeah I'd forgotten about that haha, sorry!

Definitely the best Scene song. I listened back to it yesterday and it wasn't as good as I remember it being though, agree with Joseph it's quite dated now.

2nd HANDS TO MYSELF 8.61

Highest score: 11 (Liam, Jonjo, billy)

Lowest score: 3 (Juranamo)

UK peak: #14 (Gold)

US peak: #7 (Platinum)

Pipped to the post is Hands To Myself, the 3rd single from Revival. Following two R&B leaning songs, this was simply a slice of pop perfection for Selena, crafted immaculately by Julia Michaels and Justin Tranter, produced by pop bohemoth Max Martin alongside Mattman and Robin. The initial dark guitar riffs begin the song alongside Selena's whispered come-hithers, then the song explodes with a slight tribal influence, ending with a crescendo. All of this makes the song so characteristic of Selena but so unique among her material and pop in general, it's sexy and playful but has dark undertones, implying a relationship that mgiht not be the best for her mental health but she still has that sexual desire. In a tough fight for my solo 11, this just won out

1st GOOD FOR YOU 9.41

Highest score: 11 (John James, Dobbo, Joe, Cremey, blacksquare, Davidson, Joseph, burbe, Tim, darkstar79, Luke)

Lowest score: 5 (Juranamo)

UK peak: #23 (Gold)

US peak: #5 (3x Platinum)

And of course the winner is Good For You! This was pretty obvious from opening the rate tbh so idk why I had to keep this in suspense :kink: Whilst she had hits before this, I feel that this was the song she really exploded onto the scene and really came into her own, it puts me in mind of Janet Jackson when she came out with What Have You Done For Me Lately and the Control album. Selena had her sexy image, unique breathy vocal and a song written perfectly by Justin Tranter and Julia Michaels, with lyrics of sexual desire. After trying a lot of different styles, Selena found her lane, and critics and audiences alike loved it. With eleven 11s, this was Buzzjack's clear fave of Selena's, leaving everything in the dust!

Perfect winner, such a sublime track and a real game changer for Selena I think  Hands to Myself would've been worthy too!

Thanks for hosting this Liam
