I love the GH is now a proper success. When we had years of it not charting and the only figure we had for it was 300 and something thousand it was a little underwhelming. I feel like it has become somewhat of a classic album now.

The regular vinyl of it (not picture disc) that is coming will help give it another boost too.

:wub: It's been great to see it spending a lot more time in the charts & becoming a double platinum success.

 

Since their 5 piece reunion photo back in February 2018, the GH has added 52 weeks to its chart run! Prior to then it had only managed 31 weeks in the chart.

 

 

In yesterday's chart, GH climbed to #188, with 867 sales. Total sales now stand at 620,850. :D

Thanks Jay, so the GH will do over 60k this year for sure.

 

I think a plain black fairly reasonably priced vinyl for the GH will do wonders for it in the long run sales wise. The normal GH cover will look great and I think be a big selling point I think especially if they can get it stocked in Sainsburys and indie record shops.

Sadly the GH isn't midweek top 200 today, although it's worth noting there's 53 new entries/re-entries!

I always check the BRITs page every Friday. For some reason was thinking about ‘Wannabe’ but not expecting it. A nice surprise and yet another great milestone they’ve reached in 2019!

First girl group to get a triple platinum single. Completely deserved there is no more iconic girl group song than Wannabe.

i didn't know this specific chart exist.

We have a new sales update for Forever, the OCC have done a 20 albums turning 20 article which includes sales for each album. Forever is listed as 271k.

Interesting that Forever sold 3k this year, probably around the buzz of the tour. It did chart on the iTunes chart back in November around the announcement, so maybe that helped too, as well as streaming (it's the first album that comes up on their artist page on Spotify.

 

Truly, I hope that its 20th anniversary provides a bit more of a chance of people encountering it and realising how much of a gem it is. Expect various think pieces about the album popping up throughout the year.

 

Hopefully one day it will reach 300k in the UK. It's such a shame that it tanked so hard back then. It trully was a flop as per their standards, but they had a lot that was against them at the time (including themselves!)...

Nice Forever has sold a little more, it's sale are so paltry compared to the first two albums though! It did outsell all but two solo albums though, at least that's something I guess lol.

 

On reflection 200k plus isn't bad for an album which only had a few weeks promotion then was totally abandoned I guess.

It genuinely is a huge bomb though. Sales expectations were much higher overall back then and not even being able to sell Platinum after a 1.6 million selling album is horrible.

 

I'm surprised it did manage to "sell" 3k last year though. Maybe this year it can be pushed to 275k with the 20th anniversary plus vinyl.

Yeah no surprises they left it to rot to be honest, as it was such a huge bomb. The whole thing was a mess, but unfortunately it provided the template for any future Spice Girls releases: minimum promo effort from the girls. Similar happened with the GH release, which only saw like 2 performances in support of it and barely any other promo from the group itself.

 

Hopefully one day Forever will reach the 300k mark. Seems unlikely it will be within our lifetime specially now that the group is again non-existant lol
