I guess because in the days of physicals the 2 songs would only ever count for one sale per cd wheres with streaming and downloads it’s a little unfair to count extra sales because they are downloaded separately.

 

Pretty much. With double-A sides it was impossible to tell which track people actually bought it for, but today we can clearly see which track people buy/stream.

WYG did 56k units between June 2020-May 2021 so even if you round it up it probably did 60k in 12 months. Say it does another 60k it would be around the 980k mark in a couple of months time. It’s most likely it will reach 1m in 2022

Streams are totally fake. They make the Cowell band look bigger than Spices or Sugababes, All Saints or Girls Alpud, when they're nowhere NEAR the ssme league and sold peanuts in the ohysical downloads era!! Salty fans just replay them streaming.

What I find unfair about the streaming rules is that you have songs that have between 1-2 million streaming units but have properly sold between 200-500k in total in pure sales but then an actual song that’s sold 900k and then done no more than 50k streams makes it look less successful.

 

A lot of these ‘streaming’ hits dwarf genuine sellers from previous decades.

I like them a lot but Little Mixs sales totals are definitely hugely inflated by streaming.

Little Mix sales are massively inflated as the OCC lost control of streaming in the mid to late 2010's when the ratio was ridiculous and songs not charting were going platinum. That happened to be when Little Mix were doing their best so those singles around that time have ridiculously high sales as they have never been adjusted.

 

The OCC has since altered the ratio for streams = 1 sale and having different ratios for paid for and free streams.

From a chart geek perspective I do wish that Look at Me’s sales actually matched the Gold status it achieved via shipments, but it’s nowhere close. There’s a handful of group/solo releases that are “over certified” in that respect. It feels slightly like cheating lol. But that’s the way it was done back then. If it was based on sales then Forever would only be Gold… so I suppose I should be thankful they shipped enough of it to get a Platinum disc!
