The bulk of their chart career pre-dates the BPI certifications. I think they only have one Platinum song, although plenty that have sold 600k+.

Pretty sure they got platinum certifications for:

1. Wannabe

2. Say you'll be there

3. 2 become 1

4. Mama / Who do you think you are

5. Spice up your life

6. Too much

7. Viva forever

8. Goodbye

back in the 90's?

I mean Wannabe definitely got a platinum certification in the USA and both SYBT and 2 become 1 got Gold certifications...

Sadly I don't think any of their studio albums will reach those targets any time soon. To the point we might not see it happen until the 2040s, lol, unless a reunion gives their music a very impactful

I hope when they do achieve it OCC will do an article saying they are the first band to achieve this... then give us updated sales :P
Thanks a lot Jay. Speaking of Headlines, the song itself it's not that bad but the bra selling video destroyed the whole song there.

Interesting to have the updated solo sales total as well as the group. Thanks, Jay :cheer:

UK solo sales total (albums and singles combined)

Melanie C - 3.44 million

Geri - 2.70 million

Emma - 1.28 million

Victoria - 682K

Mel B - 671K

Geri's total is very impressive considering she only released three albums.

Even if you take Melanie's first era only, she still sold more than her, and that's more impressive. :arrr:

On the other hand, it just makes the sales of Melanie's continued career look really sad :teresa:

We now have a source for the first week sales of Its Raining Men! (The first week sale in the 'weekly sales in the Top 10' section also needs changing as it's a repeat of Bag It Up)

Thanks for sharing that Liam! I'll edit the first page now.

Some other interesting facts from the article:

Wannabe - 1.31 million CD single and download sales / 65.8 million streams

Say You'll Be There - 968,244 paid for sales

Stop - 21.5 million plays [second most popular on streaming]

When You're Gone - 755,000 paid for sales

Interestingly OCC give first week sales of 180,884 for Out of Your Mind, whereas in 2000 it was reported by BBC Entertainment as 180,584. I'm inclined to think OCC is right here, given that Music Week said "just short of 181,000" in their article (and the fact that OCC also stated this figure back in April, totally missed that article! https://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/f...op-spot__24084/ )

Well, 5 and 8 are close if you use the numpad on the keyboard, so...

I knew from the sales increases that this was big on streaming but it's still odd to think this is their second most popular on streaming when you think how comparitively low the physical sales were. Presumably 'Spice Up Your Life' is third, '2 Become 1' forth and 'Say You'll Be There' fifth (or maybe 'Who Do You Think You Are').

I don't think it's that odd to be honest when you think about it - when you look at their upbeat songs it's probably the one that's the least dated due to them going for a more Motown sound and probably one that's gotten radio play besides just being "nostalgia".

True, it does make sense when you think more about it. I'd have thought 'Spice Up Your Life' would be ahead of it though, that seems to be the song closely associated to them along with 'Wannabe'.

I thought SYBT would be around 970k so I wasn’t too far off. I’m really annoyed it didn’t shift a few extra thousand copies in 1997, we would have been much nearer to 1 million. 32k is a long way off 😫

I hate when the OCC do an update on the girls that doesnt include streaming sales. CD/download sales only totals are pretty pointless now, they aren't going to be going up by any significant amounts anymore.
