I think Ariana's so high because she's the 3rd song on the currently advertised Christmas playlist - just behind Mariah and Michael Bublé. Bieber is 4th on the playlist too which is likely the reason for both Ariana and Bieber being so high this early on!

I went looking at last year's Spotify thread, apparently on this day last year, Mariah was #48, and the year before, she was #88, incredible momentum :o

It does feel totally ridiculous they'd be THAT high one month beforehand.

People are feeling more Christmassy this year for whatever reason :lol:

 

Streaming figures across the year, Ed Sheeran and "Despacito" aside, haven't exactly been impressive. I expected them to really take off this year as download figures dipped.

dear lawd at Mariah and Wham already being top 20 when it's not even December yet, Christmas really does seem to start earlier each and every year.

 

I'd expect both of those to be strong Christmas #1 contenders.

It's also because of Sunday, hasn't Mimi climbed every Sunday a lot for a few weeks now? It'll probably stabilize or even drop later in the week

Wow at the Christmas songs being so high! Leona didn't enter the top 200 until December 4th last year. A whole week earlier in entering this year. Hope it's a good sign for the song's performance this year. :wub:

my observations are:

- dance songs always climb on fridays and saturdays

- new songs benefit the most on mondays

- f*** all happens on a thursday

- more contemporary songs are favoured on sundays, and newies never climb much then

 

so we should see 'Decline' climb a fair bit tomoz ^_^
