Oh please you wake up and realise that a xmas ep is unnecessary and unwanted.

Streaming for most old Christmas songs isn't about what's wanted, it's just what you put in front of people (i.e. have songs in popular Christmas playlists). You either create an opportunity to get loads of streams... or you just don't, and up to now they haven't attempted to... which is a bit short sighted.

There is demand for the Christmas classics. Unfortunately the two b sides are not in demand , that is all im saying.

I agree that releasing an ep will slightly increase streams but to nothing significant. So why is this an issue ?

2 become 1 features on some playlists and even that doesn't do miraculously well during the xmas period. So what are two unknown songs going to achieve ?

The xmas market is now saturated with the continued classics and all the new songs released each year. So i think this idea is fruitless , that is all !!

vibe, no-one is disagreeing with you on this point. Yes, the group and the record company aren't doing much to help with the streaming. That is what people are saying here too.

We all want them to do something to improve their streams, at the end of the day. A push by the girls themselves and the record company *will* provide better streams. That also means them working with the streaming services and paying for the songs to be incluced in playlists across the platforms.

That could also mean them commissioning some Christmas mixes of their 3 #1s, so that inclusion in playlists is more widespread and prominent. That could also mean them releasing a Christmas EP.

Who knows? We're just giving suggestions on how to do it based on other artists' success stories, like Kylie's.

But maybe you are right. Maybe them not doing anything each year will be better in the end. That will do it

There's plenty of things Universal Music Group could do to expand their discography if the girls let them. Why would UMG invest in increasing the group's streaming numbers when the girls themselves are not willing to play ball? It's so frustrating.

I think it's a bit chicken and egg. If you said to the 4 spice girls right now they would release an album, it go platinum, be a success commercially and critically they would do it. I think they are all just crippled by the thought (specifically Mel C) that it might not end up like that.

If Universal basically paid for great streaming places for Sleigh Ride next year and the girls saw those streams mounting and the success coming I wouldn't put it past the 4 to put out a Christmas album the year after.

Mel C recently was asked whether recording new music (with the Spice Girls) for the animated film or a James Bond film, which she would prefer. She replied she would be up for both. I feel like she sees both of those options as safe.

I think if new music is to ever come it would be a side project to dip a toe in and see how it goes than full blown brand new album. These possibilities I think would be considered if they felt safe and right -

Some sort of charity single

James Bond theme

Unreleased album with a couple of new tracks

Annimated movie sound track

Christmas album covers with a couple of new tracks

I think all those options would give them a chance to test the waters with releasing something new but all look like side projects enough that if it wasn't a mega smash it wouldn't matter.

A one off Christmas song or an EP is a good idea to test the waters. Heck, releasing Feed Your Love as a buzz "single" to promote an anniversary edition of Spice would be a good idea. The girls definitely need reassurance there is still an audience for new material. Let's hope they dip their toes and get that reassurance.
If Universal could be bothered to negotiate with streaming sites to put the two Christmas B Sides on certain playlists, they would pick up soooo many passive plays & hugely increase their monthly listeners figure (which would possibly get more people onto their artist page to hear other Spice Girls songs).

Sadly it doesn't seem to work that way, take Kylie as example. The fact Santa Baby is so massive on streaming does not seem to help her back catalogue at all. Same can be said for Mariah to a certain extent or other big artists from pre-streaming.

I honestly don't think the girls care about their streaming numbers and fair enough. They have nothing to prove and a tour once every 15 years earns them a lot more than streaming ever could.

Agree with you but things certainly seem to be changing over the last couple of years at least (since Mel C got over herself) and they seem intent to continue as an active live band.

I do think the resistance to the streaming platforms comes from Simon himself. He is such a dino...

Nice to see the GH that high!

Yes it always seems to get lost now and again and number 1000 and something and with people downloading albums for Xmas it gets pushed down. Nice to see it in the Top 200. Would be great if it gets a boost for their 25th anniversary year as it has all the hits but would be nice if Spice got a nice boost of sales and streams in 2021.

Hi Jay, I sent you a message on Instagram in regards to the SG streaming. I also wanted to ask you if you knew what the single version of TLC's No Scrubs stream count was.

The 'No Scrubs' and 'Wannabe' album versions on Spotify were pretty neck and neck for most of the year and now Wannabe has a 3m+ lead over No Scrubs. Would be great to see if they've overtaken.

I have a few end of 2020 posts coming tomorrow. Not many, but a few :)

No Scrubs Radio Version has 3,847,475 streams, so with the album version (528,888,427) it has 532,735,902 overall, putting it slightly ahead of Wannabe on 532,139,117.

No Scrubs remastered version also has 430,007, but as far as I'm aware that's a re-recording, so I wouldn't count that tbh.

Jay has an instagram? :scratchchin:
