Ciao Adios is an absolute STORMER of a pop song  Gonna feature nice and highly in my own countdown!

Yay for Your Soul (Holding On) and Dreams too, a shame the latter never did anything when weaker dance covers have done far better.

I really wanted to get into The Calling but just found the production a little sluggish & wasn't too keen on the vocals. Whereas Monody was a bit pacier & not as many vox!

You Want Me, Found You & Dreams all v good!

. Big Shaq ~ Man's Not Hot
Date entered: 29/09/17
Chart sales: 353,900
Chart run: 60-19-14-19-21-17-18-16-16-… [9 weeks (so far)]

A very memetastic song which has proven to have legs too, I love how much this was embraced by The Internet™ and the charts. Full of quotable lyrics.

. Matoma ~ Heart Won't Forget (feat. Gia)
Date entered: 06/01/17
Chart sales: 354,600
Chart run: 68-56-49-31-32-40-65-80-84-89-95-97-x [12 weeks]

A nice tropical house song from Matoma who has otherwise not had a great year ('Party On The West Coast' was also good). Not the most exciting song in the world but does its job well.

#168. Drake ~ Blem
Date entered: 24/03/17
Chart sales: 357,100
Chart run: 34-38-30-41-28-26-28-50-93-x [9 weeks]

Quite amazed this managed to get into the UK top ten, it is one of the best songs he released this year though. "I need you to stop running back to your ex he's a wasteman" what a lyric.

#
. Hight ~ Runway
Date entered: 30/06/17
Chart sales: 358,700
Chart run: 75-66-44-37-32-33-40-51-64-x [9 weeks]

Discovered this off Dobbo's chart and it is a bit of a tune, nice to see Galantis being imitated well.

#
. Mason ~ Fashion Killa (papapapa) (feat. Stefflon Don)
Date entered: 12/08/16
Chart sales: 360,600
Chart run: …-57-x-37-33-43-58-64-69-x [7 weeks (23 total)]

This made it to the top 100 last year and thanks to BJSC it got a revival in the middle of the year, I really shouldn't have passed on this as it ended up finishing in 2nd.

#
. Cashmere Cat ~ Trust Nobody (feat. Selena Gomez and Tory Lanez)
Date entered: 02/12/16
Chart sales: 364,900
Chart run: 79-82-62-68-66-33-38-41-55-71-91-97-x [12 weeks]

Selena's had quite a good year which started off with her feature on the laidback sensual 'Trust Nobody'. Shame this never ended up being a proper hit, it seemed to get swallowed by Christmas here. Would like a Cashmere Cat production to get big in 2018 with his unique take on electronic pop production.

#
. Galantis ~ Pillow Fight
Date entered: 06/01/17
Chart sales: 371,400
Chart run: 69-65-61-49-48-37-46-69-78-74-x [10 weeks]

Another Galantis track, quite standard for them this really but that's good enough to get them in the year-end list.

#
. Watermät and Pep & Rash ~ Ruff Like This
Date entered: 01/09/17
Chart sales: 371,500
Chart run: 72-83-77-75-85-77-78-75-80-83-68-66-69-… [13 weeks]

I did not expect this from Watermät or Pep & Rash, it's very deep house borderline tech house but that vibe works as do the heavily distorted vocals. Not great enough to enter the upper half of my chart but with Watermät's previous releases doing very well for me I was willing to give this many chances.

#
. Driftmoon ~ Genesis (feat. DSharp)
Date entered: 21/04/17
Chart sales: 378,000
Chart run: 25-19-21-18-27-31-39-47-86-x-100-98-x [11 weeks]

One of the year's standout BJSC entries, orchestral uplifting trance was always going to make a big impression for me and this one coming off Armin's label was a great find.

#
. Sub Focus ~ Don't You Feel It (feat. ALMA)
Date entered: 26/05/17
Chart sales: 378,800
Chart run: 85-45-36-33-38-53-60-74-87-x [9 weeks]

I was expecting better things from this Sub Focus comeback, this works nicely as an ALMA song though and she has a great voice and is one of my favourite artists at the moment. Ultimately it'd get overshadowed by 'All Stars' and 'Chasing Highs'.

Looove Trust Nobody and I’m still annoyed about it not being a hit

Ruff Like This is a tuneee too, so different from him but it’s good :music:

So much love for Man's Not Hot  really great how it just keeps holding up week on week!

Great to see Runway here :cheer: one of my fave discoveries of the Summer that.

Genesis is sooo good too, in my top 10 if not 5 of BJSC entries this year I'd say!

This will be resuming tomorrow with appearances from Little Mix, Lorde and more. Meanwhile here's the late comment replies.

Hi Dan

Yay at Kideko sneaking in fairly high despite having a run last year too. I think it still continues to grow on me with every listen. I wasn't keen on it all now but it really does go OFF when you play it out loud. The definition of a banger :music:

Ciao Adios is easily my favourite of these last couple of batches though, just so summery and fresh sounding. I liked Heavy a lot too tbh but I hope she has more in store that is as good as this

yes, didn't quite wow me when it was just an instrumental but the vocal really elevates it and it really bangs.

Heavy's actually doing better in my chart than Ciao Adios surprisingly, although that's entirely due to John Gibbons remixing Heavy, which otherwise I found uninteresting.

What About Us is quite good.
Yeah that's what I'd say about it.

Ciao Adios is an absolute STORMER of a pop song  Gonna feature nice and highly in my own countdown!

Yay for Your Soul (Holding On) and Dreams too, a shame the latter never did anything when weaker dance covers have done far better.

I imagined it would. It's a well made pop song, hoping her next single is similarly a bop.

I thought it'd get a push but I guess there wasn't enough interest in it.

I really wanted to get into The Calling but just found the production a little sluggish & wasn't too keen on the vocals. Whereas Monody was a bit pacier & not as many vox!

You Want Me, Found You & Dreams all v good!

I really love her vocal, and both of those are amazing but The Calling definitely moreso in my view, I've played it well over 100 times.

Looove Trust Nobody and I’m still annoyed about it not being a hit

Ruff Like This is a tuneee too, so different from him but it’s good :music:

I think it was a missed opportunity. Could've had more longevity in my chart if it got given a push too.

My feelings are similar, though it is quite a letdown from 'Fade' and 'Won't Stop' which we will see both of much much later on.

So much love for Man's Not Hot  really great how it just keeps holding up week on week!

Great to see Runway here :cheer: one of my fave discoveries of the Summer that.

Genesis is sooo good too, in my top 10 if not 5 of BJSC entries this year I'd say!

I think he's trying for Christmas number one too though it's a bit too late for that now.

Runway is quite a choon, and surprisingly it's not often I really get into your random chart songs so this was a good surprise.

Genesis was an instant standout, amazed it didn't do better.

Would have loved Runway to have been a little higher but at least it's here! Really catchy and I still love it now! :music:
Definitely very catchy, just not quite the thing I absolutely love these days but great enough to make top 40 for a few weeks.

thanks guys~

. Little Mix ~ Touch
Date entered: 06/01/17
Chart sales: 381,300
Chart run: 30-29-27-28-30-31-40-57-83-92-x [10 weeks]

I've become a lot less fond of Little Mix in recent years. Maybe it's because 'Black Magic' was awful and off-putting, or just that they've put even more focus on the teen pop market. In any case they redeemed themselves with 'Touch' which is by far their best single in years. The so-called 'tropical pop' trend started to get tired by 2017 but this was one of the better examples of the genre, a strong hook and vocal performance, and hopefully something that comes to be one of the group's defining singles.

#
. Just Kiddin ~ Won't Let You Down
Date entered: 10/03/17
Chart sales: 382,400
Chart run: 93-90-90-79-97-92-75-53-55-63-95-80-97-x [13 weeks]

Just Kiddin are a name that have appeared sporadically in my chart, never having a big hit but often bringing a good dance track to the table. Now this has been done before many times, it's quite standard Spinnin' Records house tune but I cannot resist a piano riff and the Lucas & Steve vibes. Sadly it wasn't enough to break my top 50 but that's made up by its position here. There are actually two more songs to come that missed my top 50.

#
. Orjan Nilsen ~ The Hardest Part (feat. Rykka)
Date entered: 28/04/17
Chart sales: 383,500
Chart run: 69-59-56-45-57-60-68-76-93-95-70-69-81-x [13 weeks]

Orjan Nilsen is a name in trance I've been watching for some time now, and he's yet to get a big hit in my chart but this one came close. Being featured on Armin van Buuren's 'A State Of Trance' compilation it was the stand-out to me of the songs I was unaware of, it reminds me of that short period a few years ago when we had progressive house with trance sensibilities, which this essentially is. And yes that is the same Rykka of Eurovision flop 'fame'.

#
. Major Lazer ~ Know No Better (feat. Travis Scott, Camila Cabello and Quavo)
Date entered: 16/06/17
Chart sales: 386,200
Chart run: 71-68-64-73-64-71-67-59-43-48-60-92-x [12 weeks]

Major Lazer didn't have the best year, with them failing to reach my top 40 at all, though 'Run Up' and this made the top 50. This is the better of those two by a distance though, with it giving us a flavour of Camila Cabello singing on a more urban leaning track, and of course the obligatory Quavo guest verse because this is 2017. It's a long way off 'Lean On' quality but a fun bop nonetheless.

#
. Lorde ~ Green Light
Date entered: 10/03/17
Chart sales: 388,200
Chart run: 42-47-47-25-27-30-38-44-53-62-77-98-x [12 weeks]

I wasn't sure what to expect from a Lorde comeback, in my view she is quite overrated and the only solo single of hers I got into was 'Royals'. Well I guess 'Green Light' makes it 2/2 great lead singles, just a shame the rest of her material isn't up to much. This is the kind of song I like from her, commercial enough but still very much her style.

#
. Portugal. The Man ~ Feel It Still
Date entered: 01/09/17
Chart sales: 390,500
Chart run: 89-54-57-73-69-54-50-43-43-57-74-81-94-x [13 weeks]

What a stupid band name. But good song. It's a clever interpolation of 'Mr Postman' and became a surprise top five hit in US whilst just scraping our top 40 (I feel it was a missed opportunity with no airplay backing). I don't expect anything more to ever come from this band but this song is rather groovy.

#
. The Killers ~ The Man
Date entered: 23/06/17
Chart sales: 392,700
Chart run: 89-89-x-96-89-89-x-96-90-92-95-88-56-45-46-51-84-94-x [16 weeks]

With The Killers being well past their peak I didn't expect that much to come of their new single (I didn't get into 'Shot At The Night' and Brandon's solo material) but 'The Man' just kept growing with every listen for me. It sounds like an obvious attempt at another stadium anthem but, it really works. (Also, that transition from Portugal. The Man to 'The Man' *_)

#
. Mahmut Orhan ~ Save Me (feat. Eneli)
Date entered: 26/05/17
Chart sales: 393,600
Chart run: 68-36-35-27-31-36-47-58-79-87-x [10 weeks]

As expected the Mahmut Orhan follow-up to 'Feel' was basically a second-rate version of it, but that was so brilliant so this still got a few weeks in the top 40. Probably too little for Dobbo's liking though. Love the violin use again, and it's good to see he's kept the Turkish influences on his track. But it does seem like he's only got one trick.

#
. Axwell /\ Ingrosso ~ Dawn
Date entered: 02/06/17
Chart sales: 398,500
Chart run: 52-56-45-40-28-35-41-57-61-75-76-x [11 weeks]

With this bringing us back a few years to when the likes of Axwell did these euphoric progressive house instrumentals, 'Dawn' stood out as the instant favourite from the 'More Than You Know' EP, although it is the title track which had more staying power and we'll be seeing that later on.

#
. Sofi Tukker ~ Best Friend (feat. NERVO, The Knocks and Alisa Ueno)
Date entered: 22/09/17
Chart sales: 399,000
Chart run: 11-11-12-17-22-25-38-35-36-43-… [10 weeks (so far)]

Sofi Tukker I have been familiar with for a while but only towards the late end of this year did they really bring out the goods, we'll see their other big hit later but they followed that with 'Best Friend' which is a great mishmash of whatever dance genres there are with fresh production and catchy hooks all around. If this is all leading up to an album then I am looking forward to hearing it.

Some great songs in that last bunch; Green Light, The Man, Feel It Still, and Know No Better all being some of my 2017 favourites.

Portugal. The Man is a strange band name now that you mention it

Know No Better has been the definition of a slow burner for me this year (along with Calvin’s Slide in the earlier months). Despite never entering my personal chart at all KNB is in my top 30 most played songs of the year and I still jam to it now  I agree though it’s no Lean On (or really anything pre-Light It Up)

Best Friend is a very good song, if only they'd all stop swearing in the chorus

Great to see Feel It Still here as well, a very slow burner in my chart!

:hi: Dan

Yay at Feel It Still making it pretty high despite not making the top 40 in your chart, I think 'groovy' is pretty much the best way to describe it! I wasn't sure if it was really my thing on first listen but it was stuck in my head in no time. Wondering if it might be a super late breaker and take off here in the new year? :o

Ahaha at your Lorde favourites pretty much being my least favourites. I'd rather listen to Team and Perfect Places any day over Royals and Green Light  I didn't really get they hype with the latter, I liked it a fair amount but it was never life-changingly amazing like people were making it out to be and I got bored really quickly too

Save Me

Genuinely not sure which out of that or Feel I prefer these days. He managed to produce perfection not once but twice!

Know No Better is really good, will go down as more of their more underrated songs I think in the future.

Big Shaq *.*

Yass at Touch appearing, a superb pop song and definitely my favourite Little Mix single now

I looked up why they named themselves that and... it still makes no sense.

It was a bit of a sleeper hit for me after initially not thinking much of it.

What do you make of 'f*** They' then?

'Feel It Still' seems to be a slow burner for everyone.

I wouldn't call anything Lorde has released life-changing either, she seems to get too much praise on this forum.

Save Me

Nah, 'Feel' is a lot better for me anyway.

Probably, it doesn't feel like it will be well remembered. 'Get Free' is probs their most underrated song though.

Love "Best Friend", "Save Me", "The Man", "Feel It Still", "Green Light", "Know No Better" and "Touch"!
Good to hear.

thanks guys!

. Lil Uzi Vert ~ XO TOUR Llif3
Date entered: 21/04/17
Chart sales: 399,100
Chart run: 52-50-51-x-61-63-72-59-71-75-99-x-93-98-98-x [13 weeks]

I didn't get into this quite as much as I thought I would, but it ended up being a bit of a sleeper hit. Quite amazed how well it actually did in the UK chart but I guess that's the impact of streaming these days. It's a great trap song and it's good to have the subject of depression being used in a rap hit, which if you can actually understand what he's saying is about his struggles with relationships and substance abuse, with his girlfriend threatening to kill herself. Quite dark subject matter for a hit single.

#
. Selena Gomez ~ Bad Liar
Date entered: 26/05/17
Chart sales: 401,600
Chart run: 34-29-39-48-54-72-91-78-91-90-100-94-97-x [13 weeks]

Now following her appearance on 'It Ain't Me' I was hoping that her own solo material would see an improvement too. Well it did and it didn't. 'Bad Liar' was a great single and one of her best outside of dance collabs. Quite unexpected direction for her but it works. 'Fetish' was a bit crap though.

#
. Above & Beyond ~ My Own Hymn (feat. Zoe Johnston)
Date entered: 15/09/17
Chart sales: 402,900
Chart run: 85-56-20-17-15-14-15-25-25-29-31-… [11 weeks (so far)]

Above & Beyond will release their new album next year, which this is the first single to be taken from it. It's great to hear that they haven't ditched their trance sound, this is just how I love my trance music. Zoe's vocals are lush as ever too.

#
. Route 94 ~ House & Pressure
Date entered: 01/09/17
Chart sales: 407,700
Chart run: 68-82-78-77-87-75-71-64-52-46-42-26-18-… [13 weeks (so far)]

I didn't expect to get into Route 94's new stuff ever since he gave up making commercial house, but this one really gets lodged into your head after a few listens. One of the few minimal house songs that actually works.

#
. Julia Michaels ~ Issues
Date entered: 03/02/17
Chart sales: 410,100
Chart run: 79-81-89-99-65-73-74-67-36-40-45-49-74-92-x [14 weeks]

Julia has a lovely voice so it's good to see her stepping out of just songwriting and doing some singing too. This, her debut single, is a well written pop song that doesn't sound trend chasing but quickly became an obvious hit. X-Factor killed this a bit though with Simon shoving it into every other episode.

#
. Bisbetic ~ Aren't You High (feat. Sam Bruno)
Date entered: 03/03/17
Chart sales: 410,300
Chart run: 95-75-66-79-33-17-17-19-25-38-53-92-x [12 weeks]

Another above average Spinnin' Records song, can't really elaborate further.

#
. Leon Else ~ What I Won't Do
Date entered: 26/05/17
Chart sales: 410,600
Chart run: 87-73-79-70-67-80-50-43-36-41-45-55-x [12 weeks]

We'll see more of Leon Else later on, I wasn't expecting him to follow that one up with another great song but here we are. 'What I Won't Do' is the right mix of synth pop and retro wave and it's easy to see how it did better than my Leon Else entry in BJSC (not bitter -_- )

#
. Callum Beattie ~ Man Behind The Sun (Basto Club Edit)
Date entered: 25/08/17
Chart sales: 412,700
Chart run: 58-31-31-40-39-52-73-70-72-90-97-82-x [12 weeks]

Well I was of course intrigued when I saw Basto pop up in my subscription box with this remix, and whilst it doesn't really sound like him it's a bop nonetheless. Callum I've never heard of before but his vocal fits this production well (I've also heard the original version which I'm not keen on).

#
. Sons Of Maria ~ Sweet Madness (feat. Angelika Vee)
Date entered: 03/02/17
Chart sales: 415,800
Chart run: 85-63-42-25-27-26-39-53-53-52-53-56-79-93-x [14 weeks]

Tropical house continues to deliver the goods into 2017, and Angelika Vee's voice is heavenly.

#141. Eelke Kleijn ~ Shed My Skin (feat. Therese)
Date entered: 08/09/17
Chart sales: 418,600
Chart run: 100-79-71-55-23-24-26-32-33-26-31-26-… [12 weeks (so far)]

Really like the airy feel of Therese's vocal here, and a really good deep house production from Eelke Kleijn. It's not often you can say a deep house song has maximal production but this one does, there's lots of things going on. Also; Therese of Stonebridge fame getting a Thermo hit single in 2017. *_

Loooove Sweet Madness  Sons Of Maria had a song just miss out on my top 100 too

Man Behind The Sun is a tune too :music:

I've been listening to that Route 94 song since seeing in your chart trying to give another chance, but I'm still not loving it :(

XO TOUR Llif3 is without question my fave hip hop track of the year and you're right, it was quite unique to have such a dark song impacting here.

I didn't realised you had charted that Callum Beattie song in any form, I much prefer the Low Steppa edit myself.

Sweet Madness is sublime, unsurprisingly that will be pretty high up my list.

Hiya Dan!1

I'm the opposite of you where I loved Fetish and wasn't as keen on Bad Liar. I didn't really like the latter at all at first but it certainly grew on me and I found myself finally getting into it a couple of months after it was first released. "It Ain't Me" is 100% her best of the year though!!

I haven't been following weekly personal charts as much this year but I thought you might have been more of a fan of XO Tour Llif3 :o Probably one of my favourite rap hits of the year, I was really hoping it would be a top 10 smash in the UK but I can't exactly complain with the longevity it ended up having :cheer:

Bad Liar was very refreshing for Selena, a shame she didn't stick with that sound but her songs/artistry in general have just been all over the place lately.

Lil Uzi Vert's hit-and-miss for me too, wasn't a fan of XO TOUR Llif3 but I loooove The Way Life Goes
