If Universal Music Group (UMG) doesn't put up a pre-order of Spice by July 8, then we are probably not getting anything this year. :(

They have assured spice girls management they have releases planned for this year. Spice will certainly be getting a release.

I just absolutely hate it's not a collaborative thing, UMC do their thing the girls do theirs. The picture disc GH the girls and their team never even saw it until it went up for pre-order.

If UMG and the girls management are not colaborating, then I guess that means UMG can release whatever they want from the vault then? So weird they are not collaborating. It doesn't make any sense.

Yeah as far as we know, they don't have a current deal with UMG so it is almost a arms-length kind of collaboration where UMG gets to decide if they release and when. However, the girls have veto rights - I think - about what goes in the releases, right?

We know the girls themselves have been the stumbling block of unreleased tracks being released before, so we hope they are more open to that now... I mean, it would be seriously lacking if it's just the same 10 tracks again...

I honestly hope they show up properly for this and go in to the vaults, really... The fact that their only Greatest Hits release only included two new songs was criminal, as no rareties apart from old remixes were included which is a shame, really...

The fact that Voodoo made it onto the greatest hits over other tracks makes me worry about how good the unreleased track actually are tbh!

OK Mel C :cheeseblock:

Yeah I think the girls get a final OK on things or it doesn't happen. With the GH vinyl I'm assuming it was an email to Modest or Dawbel 'To coincide with the tour we will be releasing a GH vinyl, can the girls their team sign off on it' and it was like no problem.

You can see when something is sorted by the girls management like Little Miss, the girls got sent everything like the mugs, phone cases etc hence why they where used on tour, in Mel C's at home video, geris phone case.

I doubt any of the girls has ever seen one of the vinyl releases in person.

Hhmmmm there was a bit of promo from the girls themselves around the GH vinyl, but it was of course limited to their social medias - they were on rehearsals for the tour and not giving any interviews at that time (which is odd in itself!...)...

But yes, sounds very much like an arms-length thing where they simply say yes and no but had no input on the actual design of the thing. Certainly it seemed like a quick cash in anyway, much like the vinyls after that - apart from Forever which seemed a bit more polished and cared for.

I do hope that as we go into 3 years worth of 25th anniversaries, that they do change the strategy not just for Spice, but for Spiceworld and Forever too.

To be fair Melanie C herself said they recorded other tracks that she liked and wanted for the Greatest Hits over Headlines and Voodoo she said she liked Spice is back and wasn't it 'Angels'?? She said she was outvoted. I would be really interested to hear these especially Spice is back I get Spice up your life, Right back at ya vibes from that title!

I think the issue with unreleased material might be that one or two of them might have hater-boners over particular tracks which is why they consistently seem to be stopped from being released. Also, Geri put a stop to the Schizophonic special edition a few years back because she was still working on new music to be released. I'm feeling very doubtful that they'll agree to open the vaults for a Spice 25 release tbh. Maybe the record label can at least commission new remixes.

Yeah, history of being a Spice fan does lower your expectations of any possible excitement related to these girls' releases...

I was surprised about the Forever vinyl as it seemed a bit more 'cared for' but ultimately it was mostly just a gatefold and nothing really new either... Fingers crossed they know this. Melanie C seems to be the biggest stumbling block to unheard music being released, which is so odd...

I think people tend to over read Mel C's comment that "b-sides are b-sides for reason". I think it's always been an issue with all five of them needing to agree with any track being released, which makes it hard to agree on those unreleased tracks. It's obvious Mel C has unreleased tracks she likes (Spice Is Back / Angels), but have obviously been out-voted by the other girls. I don't think it's fair to say it's all Mel C.

I think the demos would be great editions to a spice disc 2 with the b-sides and I'd commission a 2 become 1 festive mix and 2021 Wannabe remix.

I think that would be a nice compromise if they really don't want unreleased songs put out.

I think Mel C's b-sides comments are maybe a cover too. I just can't see Victoria wanting those unreleased songs put out tbh. Mel C isn't going to throw her under a bus and say that though. I mean Victoria holds the rights to LYHG and This Groove but won't put them up digitally. She deliberately purchased the rights to them so they wouldn't get uploaded.

If the girls don't want outtakes to be released then they probably don't want demos of album tracks or singles to be released either.

If we don't get Feed Your Love and Likely Stories then this 25th anniversary is a bust.

It did sound like new music was her top priority for them.

We can all but hope.

Yes, and it is good this is the focus now at least from her. Mel mentioning that the things they have discussed have been making music and a tour *is* very good news as it is probably based on truth - even if it might not happen in the future ah...

IMAGINE we get brand new music. Damn, that would literally blow all our minds out hey...

New music would be great for them, but what sound they would go for would be interesting as they all have such different musical tastes based on their solo work. I think they should go for good solid pop music like they did on the first 2 albums (sorry Forever fans). Steps returned with some great music that kept the sound very inline with what they became big hit but yet kept it modern for the current market, its that type of formula id like to see the Spice Girls if they do record new material.

With b sides and outtakes etc i think it would be great to have them as a bonus disc on Spice for the anniversary but obviously we need them all to agree which hopefully they will as it would make the 25th anniversary rerelease exciting if it was to happen.

It was amazing to hear Mel talk about wanting to do new music/songs. It's what I'd truly love for them to do, so fingers crossed! It would be fascinating to see which direction they went in. As Feel the Fever mentioned, Steps got the balance right between music that suited them but still seemed current, so that's what I hope the Spice Girls could pull off.

Yes. I always thought that they pull something really cool off, an album based around Never Give Up On The Good Times, Say You'll Be There and Viva Forever with a more contemporary approach, and they would be flying!

Now THAT is what I want. What we will get though... I don't have my expectations high unless I really see them invested in it. Last time they recorded together 'properly' (sorry GEM...) they did it separately and disjointed, so we got a disjointed release. Now they must be invested in it and really up for it. I hope that all of them being in the same country and in regular contact again helps, for sure.
