It amazes me to think that they’re all apparently satisfied with just three albums representing them, from 25-30 years ago. Have they never had any “what if?” feelings over the years regarding how it would feel to make & release a new album? Has it never seemed enticing to have lots of fresh material to perform? To relive major aspects of what it is to be in a pop group? I wish the Spice Girls could be more to them than occasional reunion tours.

If they’re all afraid of the concept of failure or “damaging the legacy”, I don’t understand why that is. If they could survive the musical tanking so hard to the point it was pretty embarrassing, then surely they could survive giving a 4th album a try lol. (“They” doesn’t have to include Victoria).

Sigh 🥺 If they all genuinely have no desire at all then ok, but I don’t know if any of them have ever outright said “we have no desire to ever make new music”. Reunion questions to them always seem to be regarding touring rather than new music, so they’ve never really had to address it.

I can’t think of another major group who are unsatisfying in this way!

I've wondered this a few times, and the answer I've told myself is that perhaps they're not really in it for the music. It seems it's always been more about the glitz, showbiz, fame, etc - only exception could be Mel C. Or maybe they're worried about how they might sound?

I think they did try, right? Their last 3 attempts didn't go very well...

First in 2000, Mel C didnt want to be a Spice Girls and in general Forever was seen as a major flop. This made them go away for a while and then some of them spent years avoiding anything Spice.

Then, in 2007 they released two new tracks trying to recreate the old 90s sound, about 8 years too late... It was badly received by all in general, with Headlines being panned and Voodoo being trashed all together.

Then in 2016, they did attempt a comeback, with Mel C pulling out at last minute to focus on her own music. However, the three remaining girls, Emma, Mel B and Geri, went back to the same old producers AGAIN (they had sessions with Elliott Kennedy and Absolute) and Song for Her came out of it - which again was trashed by the fans and the press that covered the leak.

They became a touring-every-10-years or so nostalgia band....

All of these reunions/attempts at music were in the background of genuine excitement for their comeback, but I think them spending the last 20 years trying to recreate the 'girl power all colours of the world' type of branding and dated-pop music is what got them to be the nostalgia brand they are.

Since 2019 tour, the remaining 4 girls have all said they would be open but scared about new music. Mel C said she would do 'a one-off' song for a soundtrack or something, and Mel B and Emma both said they would love to do new music.

From what we know, from Chris and other 'in the know fans', it is Mel C who is the most reluctant to make a new album as she prefers to do music solo and 'doesnt want to tarnish the legacy'...

It's so short sighted from her, I'm sorry... When you could have any producer at your wish, but choose to not do it and render the whole group as a nostalgia cash in and nothing else...

Aww that was a great interview! Loved them looking back on the O-Zone interview, wish they showed the bit where Jamie says "I can't seem to turn on the TV-" and Victoria cuts in asking "why?!" 😂

Also love the idea of the girls having separate group chats, probably where they can slag off Geri or something. 😂

Yessss that is my favourite bit!!!

I still think a great way to continue their legacy would be a tribute album, similar to The Talking Heads.

Imagine female artists such as Billie Eilish covering 'Too Much' (we know that's her fave) or Dua Lipa doing 'Who Do You Think You Are?'. I think a lot of them would jump at the chance.

And maybe even the girls could re-record a track for the fans. It would be a great idea to boost their streaming.

Elton John did it too! I think that would be a fabulous idea, again it's something which requires very little input from them, they could even throw an unreleased track of their own onto it or put something like the ROTSG SUYL remix onto it... Reimagined Spice

meh... personally I am not too bothered by that idea to be fair...

I would rather a new album or an album of unreleased tracks from back in the day.

I know a lot of fans wouldn't be interested in this but I think it would be great way to continue their legacy with their music at the forefront. It would be a great way to introduce their music to a lot of the younger generation who only know Wannabe 🫠.

Surely they'd be able to get the likes of Adele, Taylor, Billie, Ariana, Dua etc etc who are all vocal fans. I think it would be hard for them to turn it down.

I can already hear Dua on WDYTYA with Mark Ronson on production.

No, I see the appeal though Lady Gaga and Elton did this recently and the results weren't great in my opinion... Also, I don't think Adele or Taylor would do it but I could see Ariana, Dua, Billie doing it

It's just one of many things that they could do which would require very little effort from the girls and continue to expose their legacy... but with these girls they don't give a shit.

Well...

Victoria Beckham says the idea of a Spice Girls reunion residency is “tempting”:

“It would be tempting. But could I take on a world tour? No I can’t. I have a job… How good would the Spice Girls be at the Sphere! I love the idea of it. I mean I don’t know if I could even still sing, I mean I was never that great!”

I don't believe her for a second, it's just click bait from her. She knows people remember her as a Spice Girl over anything else.

I bet if she was offered a really helfty pay check for a Wembley residency, she would do it lol

I mean. Several of the Spice Girls have a longstanding tradition of using reunion talk as just a way to drive attention to whatever they're promoting. That may be all this is. But...at the same time...is this the first time we've actually heard her sound a little open to performing in ages? I think others have spoken for her a few times and claimed she's up for this and that. But I don't think we've actually heard it from her. Anyway. Not reading too much into it. She also agrees she's open to holograms in this clip (which...hopefully she's kidding by that point...)

But The Sphere is an honestly interesting concept for them...and perhaps a plausible one. Being in their 50s, they are not too old to tour. Not even close. However. I don't know how many artists tour in their 50s when they haven't made it a lifestyle by that point. Besides Melanie C...they haven't. I just see a residency as more likely for them if something were to happen.

The Backstreet Boys definitely made some waves performing at The Sphere. Each of the girls' shows have been so different, this would provide them with yet another new staging. Plus...there'd be so much going on, it'd be a distraction if one of the girls wasn't as in the zone as the others. Not naming names.

Non-selfish reaction: That would be incredible if the 5 of them had a residency at the Sphere

Selfish reaction: I sincerely doubt I'd be able to go and would cry myself to sleep for the rest of my life, do London instead girlies xx

Yeah I'm not sold on The Sphere... I would much rather they do a stadium residency instead...
