Bruno Mars - That's What I Like 72-47-42-35-25-15-14-13-13-12-15-13-17-21-24-27-27-34-37-37-43-x(2)-73-x (22 weeks) 88 points This is one of those songs that is really just meh for me, I don't really have an opinion on it. I liked Bruno's Grammy performance but there is quite literally nothing to this song. It was a minor hit here whilst it was one of the biggest sellers of the year in America! At least this is inoffensive unlike the horrific 24k magic. 24. Taylor Swift - Look What You Made Me Do 1-1-3-4-9-12-14-20-24-51-x (10 weeks) 97 points To every single person who contributed to that 97 points, I'm judging you so much rn. A modern masterpiece, the best song of the year (alongside Green Light and Don't Blame Me), I stayed up till 4:30am when this finally dropped and not even exaggerating, I listened to this with no-break for over 8 hours!! I've heard this nearly 600 times now and it's still one of my favourite Taylor songs ever; the lyrics slay me (I adore the old Taylor part), the pre-chorus is heaven and the video is one of my favourite videos of all time and a visual delight. A great song and this gave Taylor her first #1 here *.* (I was acc expecting this to be top 10 here so I'm glad it's only 24th, also 24 is my lucky number so yasss at my fave occupying that spot *.*) 23. Jonas Blue feat. William Singe - Mama 29-22-12-8-6-6-6-5-4-5-5-5-5-7-22-24-26-30-38-43-47-52-62-61-67-x (25 weeks) 97 points (more voters) Easily a contender for one of the most bland and generic songs in ages. I can't stand this and idg how it was such a big hit, the vocals are dreadful and the production is so poor. I've been so disappointed with Jonas Blue this year after loving By Your Side & liking his other 2016 songs. This also deserved to finish higher here and I hate the vocalist on this so much  22. Sam Hunt - Body Like A Back Road DNC 98 points This is such a bop, I wish this smashed in the UK. Despite this being massive in America, I'm acc surprised so many of you have listened to this and that it finished this high here! BLABR is a country song that set records in America and its always fab when a country song smashes (unless its a Florida Georgia Lane song, not including Let Me Go obviously but that ain't country, or bad bro-country). 21. The Chainsmokers & Coldplay - Something Just Like This 30-2-7-4-5-6-5-6-7-9-11-14-18-26-25-16-19-26-27-36-39-30-36-39-39-43-50-47-57-70-73-x (31 weeks) 99 points Probably my least favourite song of the year (alongside that Sam Smith crap), two of my least favourite artists team up to make a collaboration that was low-key somehow worse than I was expecting  The Chainsmokers haven't done a good song since DLMD and continue to get increasingly worse and Coldplay are probably the most overrated act for me of all time and I hate Chris's vocals on this so much as usual. And the drop is horrific. Just dreadful, gutted this missed the top 20. (*looks what finished 20th and starts raging 100x more x*) ++++ Dan's alternative commentary (cos I wrote these for my EOY and really hate these songs) Taylor Swift - Look What You Made Me Do I don't understand why she felt the need to release this piece of musical crap, which sounds half finished and obnoxious. Being one of the world's biggest and richest pop stars, she could have hired better writers, but I guess she really needed another controversy - and that she did get. In the past I've been able to get some enjoyment out of her songs even if I don't like her public persona but this era she seems to be deliberately rubbing it in everyone's faces. Again, this song is really lazily written and I am totally not buying Taylor's side to the story. It's another one of her 'revenge' songs but the whole tone of the song makes her out to be this unlikeable movie villain. The whole 'old Taylor is dead' thing is so cringe and it feels so forced. Once the album fizzles out as quickly in the charts as the single did, I'm sure she'll go back to inoffensive teen pop, or even go full Miley on us and do a country pop album. And I hope she does (the former), the likes of 'Shake It Off' and 'Style' are jams and it's sad to hear that's she's ditched that for.. whatever this is? There's barely even a melody in the chorus and the production is tacky. And did I mention the lyrics are awful? Sam Hunt - Body Like A Back Road Google search 'worst songs of 2017' and Sam Hunt has two entries in the top five. The top one 'Drinkin Too Much' I haven't heard and really don't want to if it is supposedly worse than this. Anyway thankfully this never crossed over to the UK (could've been a worst song of the year contender from additional overexposure if it was) but I regularly watch US chart recaps where this was massive and so was exposed to bits of this annoying stupid song. This song is basically everything I hate about "bro country", it's poorly written (body like a back road is meant to be a compliment, really?) and just annoying. I'm sure there's worse pop-country songs out there, but I haven't heard them.
December 23, 20177 yr Author Here's a reminder of the songs yet to come in the top 20: 5 After Midnight - Up In Here Artists For Grenfell - Bridge Over Troubled Water Cardi B - Bodak Yellow Chris & Kem - Little Bit Leave It Chris Brown - Questions Ed Sheeran - Galway Girl Ed Sheeran - How Would You Feel (Paean) Ed Sheeran - Perfect Ed Sheeran - Shape Of You Jake Paul feat. Team 10 - It's Everyday Bro Kendrick Lamar - HUMBLE. Kygo & Ellie Goulding - First Time KYLE feat. Lil Yachty - iSpy Liam Payne feat. Quavo - Strip That Down Lil Uzi Vert - XO TOUR Llif3 Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee feat. Justin Bieber - Despacito Migos feat. Lil Uzi Vert - Bad and Boujee Sam Smith - Too Good At Goodbyes The Script - Rain Zayn & Taylor Swift - I Don't Wanna Live Forever (Fifty Shades Darker) We will resume the countdown after Christmas.
December 23, 20177 yr Hope Galway Girl, Humble, & Rain are out soon. I get that people on BJ generally hate both Ed Sheeran & The Script but the songs aren’t as bad as some of the others here :P Humble just plain doesn’t belong on this list at all. Aside from being the two most overplayed (and probabaly overrated) songs of 2017, Shape of You & Despacito aren’t that bad as songs on their own & based on quality shouldn’t be on this list. But, because of how Ed ruptured the charts with his album and how Luis sparked an annoying trend of mostly half-arsed ‘Spanglish’ release, they find themselves here. I must say though I had no idea what to vote for when I first saw this thread and eventually didn’t do anything I don’t think but tbh that list is fairly accurate in showing - if not the worst - then the least popular songs of the year. Well done
December 23, 20177 yr I'm The One: It's okay Digital Love: Haven't heard it Thunder: Yes, they did go a bit overboard with the pitch shifting. Verses are okay though Rockstar: Meh Young And Menace: Even ARTV hated it That's What I Like. Really good song. BTW, I remember seeing the Key Of Awesome parody and I LOL'd when Bruno erased the Bruno clones from the screen and they were yelling "No!" Look What You Made Me Do: (Watching Andrew Prep's Worst Songs of 2017 video.) (the video shows the lyrics video) #"I got a list of names and yours is in red underlined"# (pen highlights YOURS IS IN RED UNDERLINED) Andrew: "That's f**king highlighted, you dumbass!" LOL, I love that part. BTW, the song is okay-ish. Mama: Okay, doesn't really hold up compared to Perfect Strangers and By Your Side. Body Like A Back Road: Only heard like snippets of this, and judging by them it's kinda meh. Something Just Like This: I love this song.
December 23, 20177 yr 'I'm The One' and 'rockstar' are two of my favourite #1s of the year, glad they're not too high here. I managed to avoi that Sam Hunt song entirely until hearing the clip of it included in ADoseofBuckley's worst songs of 2017 video the other day (hence me not voting for it in this) and it sounded pretty excruciating there, no desire to hear the full song
December 31, 20177 yr LWYMMD deserved number 1! Rap doesn't deserve all of it's hate - unless it's mumble rap (which still bops) which can leave/die.
December 31, 20177 yr Author 7F37r50VUTQ all commentaries in this post are by Dan 20. Zayn & Taylor Swift - I Don't Wanna Live Forever (Fifty Shades Darker) 16-19-36-23-17-17-18-13-9-5-7-14-30-32-53-58-58-64-x (18 weeks) 101 points Another year means another number of attempts by former 1D members to stay relevant and after Zayn's first album flopping he took the route of doing a soundtrack single, and not just that but adding Taylor onto it. Following on from the previous Fifty Shades soundtrack singles from The Weeknd and Ellie Goulding that were boring, I very much expected the same from this. Unsurprisingly that's what we get, a really drab unsexy boring song - and if I'm to trust what I've heard about the film it accompanies then they suit each other "well". Zayn has a very weak voice which can't carry the song, his falsetto is painful. 19. Kygo & Ellie Goulding - First Time 34-38-38-36-38-39-48-45-53-46-59-x (11 weeks) 106 points Well personally I think this got too much hate on this forum, and for what? Because of the slow tempo and the subdued nature of the song perhaps, or that the drop wasn't very meaty. It certainly wasn't nearly as strong as 'It Ain't Me' though and it being released quite soon after that really did hurt its chart success. 18. 5 After Midnight - Up In Here 51-x(4)-70-x (2 weeks) 107 points We really don't need a Poundland JLS five years after they stopped being relevant. Thankfully this non-effort of a song missed the top 40 and we never heard of them again. And even if we did, we have Rak-Su now who are actually quite good. 17. Artists For Grenfell - Bridge Over Troubled Water 1-3-18-48-75-x (5 weeks) 108 points Seems a bit harsh to be hating on a charity collective single but it got no less than two sets of 18s. It was quite a decent effort and I particularly liked the Stormzy addition, though James Arthur's wailing didn't help it. Not one I listened to more than a few times anyway but we've certainly had worse in the past (remember NHS Choir anyone?). 16. The Script - Rain 26-44-31-17-18-19-18-15-19-19-22-26-34-60-69-x (15 weeks) 110 points So so basic. Possibly a new low for them and that includes other lazily written songs they've done like 'Hall Of Fame'. I can't fathom how this was such a hit especially in the streaming age but I suppose Heart FM spamming can still get you a moderately big hit now.
December 31, 20177 yr Author 87gWaABqGYs all commentaries in this post are by Ultra 15. Liam Payne feat. Quavo - Strip That Down 3-3-4-4-4-6-5-7-6-17-20-22-24-27-32-39-45-50-61-63-x (20 weeks) 110 points (same voters, more 18s) This did deserve to make the final of the hatechart but I'd probably have this quite a bit lower than it finished here cos I can lowkey bop to this if I get drunk  The worst part of this song is the fiftieth unnecessary Quavo verse of the year and once again, this feels pretty dated already oops. I remember before 1D broke up Liam was the only one I was hyped to hear music from and he's the only 1D member to not release one song that I've liked yet, hopefully the upcoming Rita collab will change that. 14. Chris Brown - Questions 21-19-16-13-12-15-17-15-17-38-41-45-46-52-56-x (15 weeks) 110 points (more voters) Trash. Should be higher, I can't believe he is actually still getting hits ugh. Anyway personal opinion aside, the song is still dreadful and worthy of a high placing here. 13. Ed Sheeran - How Would You Feel (Paean) 2-11-11-16-34-41-46-53-69-69-x (10 weeks) 115 points Probably one of the worst Ed songs of the year (Shape/Castle are worst and so are a couple of the album tracks), this is just a boring dull typical Ed ballad that adds nothing new and is unexciting, unlike Perfect which I actually quite like :o So so dull, ready for Ed to campaign this for Christmas #1 2018 with 500 remixes and buzzjack to have a breakdown x 12. Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee feat. Justin Bieber - Despacito 70-22-4-1-1-1-1-1-1-2-1-1-1-2-1-1-4-6-7-10-13-20-23-25-27-31-32-34-37-36-38-41-52-64-72-71-58-... (37 weeks) 119 points Ugh how tf is this not top 10?!?! One of the biggest hits of the year, and also one of the worst. I hate the original nearly as much as the Bieber version, I just don't find it catchy at all and I find it pretty unbearable whenever I hear it  Chantaje deserved this success. 11. Ed Sheeran - Galway Girl 2-2-2-2-2-3-3-3-5-6-10-14-17-20-20-25-25-34-40-42-47-53-48-51-56-70-x(12)-66-70-x(4)-70-... (29 weeks) 119 points (more voters) Woo a bop. This is easily the best song Ed has released this year and I'm gutted this has done so badly here (at least it avoided the top 10 *.*). This is just a fun irish bop and I always jam when I hear this, the chorus is so catchy and the video features the always wonderful Saorise Ronan. Easily the best thing from divide. +++ your top 10: Cardi B - Bodak Yellow Chris & Kem - Little Bit Leave It Ed Sheeran - Perfect Ed Sheeran - Shape Of You Jake Paul feat. Team 10 - It's Everyday Bro Kendrick Lamar - HUMBLE. KYLE feat. Lil Yachty - iSpy Lil Uzi Vert - XO TOUR Llif3 Migos feat. Lil Uzi Vert - Bad and Boujee Sam Smith - Too Good At Goodbyes
December 31, 20177 yr First Time definitely gets a hard time, it's not as good as It Ain't Me but I don't get such harsh reactions to one and not the other. That top 10 isn't surprising at all, I personally wouldn't have either Ed song or Cardi B there but otherwise we're pretty spot on, well done Buzzjack.
January 1, 20187 yr Bodak Yellow, Shape Of You, HUMBLE, iSpy, XO Tour Llif3 & Bad & Boujee have no place in the Top 10 - more a reflection of Buzzjack taste than the thankfully better taste of the general public.
January 1, 20187 yr I Don't Wanna Live Forever: Meh First Time: ??? Up In Here: ??? (DMX's original is brilliant though) Bridge Over Trouble Water: I like it Rain: Reminds me of Divide era Ed Sheeran a bit. "IT'S SUCH A SHA-A-A-AME! WE f***ED IT UP, YOU AND ME!" Strip That Down: Guilty pleasure Questions: Okay? There's a hint of a Turn Me On in this song How Would You Feel (Paean): ??? (BTW, LOL at the "Ed Sheeran campaigning this for Christmas number one in 2018 with 500 remixes and BJ having a breakdown" line from dan) Despacito: I like this too Galway Girl: 'Tis bordeline adequate tune. My thoughts on the Top 10: Bodak Yellow: "Said lil bitch you can't f*** wit me if you wanted to. These expensive these is red bottoms these is blooded shoes" The beat did sound a bit dull when I first listened to it, but the more I listened to the lyrics it became a bit of a guilty pleasure Little Bit Leave It: So... Some people from Love Island attempted to make a hit... Heard it once... Maybe twice... Don't remember it... Love Island is an island... Perfect: Nah! It's not perfect, it's okay. Shape Of You: Another guilty pleasure "The club isn't the best place to find love, so the bar is where I go" It's Everyday Bro: I LOL'd at some lines like "Yes, I can rap and no I'm not from Compton". If England is, in fact, your city, then Santorini must be my local shopping centre. HUMBLE: I love this song. Kendrick has some really good wordplay on this. iSpy: One of those upbeat rap songs with a cheery summer vibe, like Broccoli. XO Tour Llif3: It's okay Bad And Boujee: Guilty pleasure. "Rain drop, drop top". Also, this is the one of those songs that has ad-libs at the end of pretty much every line along with some triplet flow thrown in. Too Good At Goodbyes: I like this one
January 1, 20187 yr Okay I know Shape Of You and Perfect were overplayed af but how did they get so much more vitriol than How Would You Feel which is an utter SNOOZEFEST on its own right?!?!
January 1, 20187 yr My rate Cardi B - Bodak Yellow 11/10 - How is this even in the Hatechart, let alone top 10  Chris & Kem - Little Bit Leave It 05/10 - Heard it like twice, not sure of the fuss Ed Sheeran - Perfect 00/10 - Horrific Ed Sheeran - Shape Of You 01/10 - Over played generic shit Jake Paul feat. Team 10 - It's Everyday Bro N/A - Never heard it Kendrick Lamar - HUMBLE. 07/10 - Have no idea why this is top 10 KYLE feat. Lil Yachty - iSpy 02/10 - This song is just cringe Lil Uzi Vert - XO TOUR Llif3 00/10 - Awful Migos feat. Lil Uzi Vert - Bad and Boujee 8/10 - Again, have no idea why this is top 10 Sam Smith - Too Good At Goodbyes -01/10 - I really can’t stand Sam Smith and his ‘poor me’ attitude. He literally tried to steal a married man himself. Twat. :)
January 1, 20187 yr Okay I know Shape Of You and Perfect were overplayed af but how did they get so much more vitriol than How Would You Feel which is an utter SNOOZEFEST on its own right?!?! Probably because HWYF got exactly 1 play in the chart show so a lot of us have completely forgotten it :P Not a massive fan of any of the Top 10 so this could go any way really.
January 1, 20187 yr To all those that voted for Bad And Boujee, you do know that Donald Glover called it the greatest song of all time, right? Mixed feelings on that top 10, some utter tunes then some rather less so.
January 1, 20187 yr There are only 3 bad songs in that top 10. Hope Sam is rightfully #1 to make up for this.
