It’s ironic that anyone can take the stance that caring about the charts means you mustn’t care about the music - on a CHART FORUM. The irony is too much 😳

Perfect is just eye-rollingly formulaic. 'Thinking out loud' part 2 with one exception....Thinking out loud was really good whereas Perfect is awful.

I think the problem is that he's already bored us to death throughout the entire year and now taking the Xmas number one is just the nail in the coffin of his boring chart manipulation.

But him and his record company are making tons of money and that's what it's all about.

Perfect is one of the few songs I like from Ed Sheeran. It’s beautifully written. Formulaic, maybe. But most good pop songs are.

How do you know this? Talk about sweeping general statements. Chart success and sales are a measure of success, to claim you are successful you need to have hits! Ed has bucket loads and has a great team behind him (probably the most resource out of his entire label). It almost sounds like it's a crime to have a good team behind you!

I don't think it's about fame etc. for Ed it is about being immortialised in music. I think that is the greatest compliment as a musician that you can achieve - mass people remember your chart success and hits 50-60 years after they have been released. There are very few artists in this catergory..

I very much doubt Ed's music or chart success will be remembered much in half a century's time.

'Thinking Out Loud' was awful as well... :puke2:

great to see Jax Jones going top 50 and not getting completely swept up by the Christmas season. will probably be a reasonable hit in the new year.
I can see “Breathe” doing a YDKM and entering the top 40 officially in the new year once all the Xmas songs clear out

Interesting phrasing from the official charts company:

‘Ed Sheeran's Perfect, which has today been rereleased in remixed form to include vocals by Beyoncé, goes Top 3 for the first time, climbing one place.’

Looks like they’re classifying it as a remix and I think she will be credited as they’ve also called it a rerelease.

Question is are they charting together or separate?

That’s why I said it was interesting phrasing. They called it a rerelease - which suggests they would be charting separately. However, they also called it a remix which would suggest they would be combined.

However, on their tweet, they said “Can Beyoncé help push Ed Sheeran to number 1?” or something like that suggesting they would be combined.

Mint Royale said it is combined
I really can't at so many people trying to twist Ed Sheeran promoting his current single (you know, the thing musicians are kind of supposed to do) as a bad thing. Yes, he wants to get a #1 (and especially a Christmas #1), what exactly is wrong with that? Surely anyone would if they had the opportunity?

Agreed like him or hate him that is basically the point

Ed Sheeran is, like him or not, one of the biggest artists in the world atm and getting a Christmas #1, which is still a very big deal and probably the only chart of the year that still gets mass attention, would cement his status. There's nothing wrong with that. Is it 'desperate' for an athlete to be committed to achieving a gold medal if they were world number 1?

(I don't particularly think a lot of Perfect ftr, it's kinda just Thinking Out Loud with strings, but eh, he sticks to what he knows and people like it sooo ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I am glad I didn't put money on Rita Ora now ha)

God forbid an artist aiming for the top. Anyone who aims for higher than #44 is such a total douche.

It's just totally inauthentic, like his whole album really, which was manufactured to a tee to try and copy 21.

Beautifully written? It sounds like a 5 year old's love letter to their school crush.
