So the sudden hold of Mel holds back Phil again....

 

 

They do seem to be making a bigger thing out of Phil/Mel then they ever actually were. They slept together once, Phil manipulated the situation and Mel regretted it immediately.
It was Christmas Day 2000 when they slept together. Whether it is to do with Steve's death, that's the only thing I think that Mel has that hold from Phil.
Mel actually owes Phil money since he paid her bail and then she skipped town.

In some way, Mel coming back is the best thing that's happened to EastEnders for a while.
