September 14, 20186 yr Is the new season out already?! Think I'm over it. It's too depressing a show.
September 16, 20186 yr Free Churro is an amazing episode of TV. It’s amaIngly written and suitably both funny and also quite sad. Made even more bittersweet with the context of seeing the Time’s Arrow episode. Edited October 1, 20186 yr by LewisGT
September 19, 20186 yr Is the new season out already?! Think I'm over it. It's too depressing a show. Lucky there are lots of happy clappy shows for you to watch then hun
September 25, 20186 yr I've just seen Free Churro and holy shit.... This is the best animated comedy since early Simpsons EASILY, it's so intelligent, much of the comedy is so subtle or biting you don't always get the depth of it on first watch or until someone points something out. Everything that's shown or said has a joke or deeper level to it but the Free Churro episode was simply heartbreaking without losing the wit. The show really resonates with me because I've got such a dark sense of humour and I often joke about my own struggles with mental health etc, so the way that they intertwine serious stories such as Diane getting divorced, Princess Carolyn's miscarriages and Bojack's depression with very clever jokes about all of it and silly humour like the name twisters ("look at all these Miss a Carries" is still my fave) is perfect. It's good BECAUSE it's depressing, it's not afraid to tackle such issues in a way that no other show would.
September 28, 20186 yr Binged this all earlier this week and I thought the last scene was a bit meh until I read something online about how Diane's portrayed as Princess Diana earlier in the season and she's driving...into a tunnel.... What struck me the most was how the writing really used the framing devices well like the Girl Croosh listicle, the Halloween party and the "client confidentiality" episodes - such great writing!
September 28, 20186 yr The one with the therapist and mediation woman was GENIUS, I agree about the others too. They find really novel ways to make episodes stand out, but it always fits to the story. Sometimes when series experiment, it can feel like its just for the sake of it to deviate it a bit but it all fits together, particularly in this season, to develop the characters in some way or add some insight as to why they are how they are.
September 30, 20186 yr Author Still can’t get over how good this is. Free Churros is perfect, I was so drawn into what he was saying, I didn’t realise that was the full episode. Just watched the Bobo the Angsty Zebra episode which was also brilliant (Princess Diana omg). The writing team just have so many genius ideas and it really strikes that great balance between jokes/satire and dealing with incredibly serious and important issues.
October 20, 20186 yr Part of what I loved about this season was how we got to see Philbert develop from a show that... sounded like an obvious shit fake tv show because there's no time to develop a show within a show and they're just exaggerating stuff for comic effect... to something that eventually made a lot of sense both as a hit show and something that ends up profoundly affecting the characters that work on it. Also, great season, great show (as if this is my first post in this thread) and what with all the experimental storytelling techniques they used this time, it was really enjoyable throughout.
September 27, 20195 yr Author URGH the next season will be the final season :( Normally I’d accept it for a show in its sixth season but it just keeps getting better and better and it has become one of my all time favourite shows. I guess it will hopefully get a proper ending but... gutted First part: October 25th Second part: January 31st
September 28, 20195 yr I'm gutted this is ending, 6 seasons is a great run for a Netflix show but I agree it's just going from strength to strength and easily has mileage left, but I have faith they'll end it perfectly.
September 28, 20195 yr Season 6 Trailer ZOGxOQxXjdo I am gutted it's the last season we're getting, but considering it's still on a high I think this would be a good time before we get bored of it! I think Bojack entering rehab at the end of last season is a massive change to the overall story arc so for him to go back to his normal ways and extend that out for another few seasons would be ruining it's continuity. I think a last season to wrap things up and essentially for Bojack to recover is a sensible move! Hopefully as we're getting two parts we get something special from this last season!
September 28, 20195 yr Rumours that it’s ending because Netflix cancelled it are not true by the way, the writers were already planning on this being the final season before they unionised. Netflix does have a thing about unionising but this was already to be the end of Bojack Horseman :) Ive been rewatching the show to prepare, I just finished season 3 and got all torn up over the planetarium scene again...
September 28, 20195 yr I never really liked it tbh. I found it too morose and annoying and it took itself too seriously. It's no Rick and Morty!
