15 ~ Rehab (feat. Justin Timberlake)

Next up is possibly the world's most pointless feature credit :') I like Justin and would like him to feature in a Rih song again but it's a bit silly when Kanye does a whole verse on 'Jump' and gets nothing and this does :kink:

However, this is a masterpiece  The string section starts the song perfectly and leads into a smooth, silky song which is just perfect to listen to, and when you compare the R&B on her first two albums and this it's just so much better by a mile  I believe this, along from 'Disturbia' in GGGB paved the way for the 'Rated R' sound. I (kind of) get the 'bland' criticisms I've seen for it but it makes me so sad the lack of recognition this gets :(

I know Haus stans for it, anyone else? *.*

Still did well to go Top20 when it was released. What did JT do apart from a few words. Enjoyed this at the time.

14 ~ Red Lipstick

Sex anthem *.* 'Red Lipstick' is a bonus track on 'Talk That Talk' and should obvs be on the standard, it's a perfect example of her charisma and her OUTRAGEOUSNESS on one song really ~ The R&B beat is divine too.

Gonna speed this up a bit :kink: Going up to the top 10 tomorrow!!

13 ~ What Now

This is criticized a lot and I don't get why, it's a beautiful song  Her vocals are some of her best EVER on this and some of my favourite on any ballad, the long 'Whaaaaat nowwwww' she does has me on the floor everytime. I love the rocky/dubstep edge she gives to what could be just a basic ballad, the last part is so damn powerful <3 It might not have been a huge hit (still don't know why it randomly went back up the chart months after it's impact date ) but it's remembered pretty well imo!

12 ~ Consideration (feat. SZA)

I know the next album is supposed to be reggae but as Liam I think said there'll probably be a lot of dancehall etc to go with it and I need more songs like this 😍 SZA is such an interesting collaboration and it introduced me to her voice which is fabulous, need to check her album out *.* This song has a wonderful VIBE and is great to just casually put on and chill too, similar to lots of ANTI. One thing I don't like is the length, an extra verse or bit from SZA would be lushhh

11 ~ Russian Roulette

Russian Roulette was a career defining single for Rih. It gave her a new style and paved the way for her to become the artist she is today, and I don't think people appreciate this enough. As with most of the songs in this countdown lmao, it's not remembered too well by the general public and I feel it's losing legacy amongst the fanbase also.

Russian Roulette, like 'What Now' a few songs ago is really made by Rihanna's stunning vocal delivery. She brings an eery, spooky feel to the song and it's actually quite emotional at times! I know there's that old gif of Rihanna going on about her personal the Rated R album is followed by the video of 'Rude Boy' (:kink:) but apart from that it really is omg, what AN ALBUM

Russian Roulette still feels underrated for me. What Now probably known in Buzzjack for Why is 'What Now' back in the charts? It came back as it was on an ITV trailer.

Well yes I know :kink:

I am also a 'Rehab' stan, Andrew *.* so glad to see it this high in your countdown as it is criminally underrated!

Agreed!!

Thanks for commenting x

"Consideration" is the best of the ones you've just posted. Such an interesting song to kick off the 'Anti' album but one that I grew to love fairly quickly. I also wish it lasted longer, the fade out upsets me every time.

👑👑 10 ~ Pour It Up 👑👑

Anthem of life ngl 😂 Following the two smashes 'Diamonds' and 'Stay' (one of which could still be to come ^_^) 'Pour It Up' perhaps wasn't an obvious choice for the third single and commercially maybe it wasn't the right one, stalling outside the top 40 in the UK and underperforming in the US considering urban was way more popular than here then. It's probably most famous for it's video which is one of Rih's most controversial ever, it's a great video tbh though and that image of Rih with the blonde wig in the chair will forever be iconic *.* Like the song! It has a fabulous urban beat which is great to dance to, and I consider it the predecessor to BBHMM not only in sound but obviously theme. Urban Rih is probably my favourite part of her when it's done good and this is just a perfect example of that, she knows how to give the songs their feel and tone in a way few artists can, which is a kind of rubbish explanation but it's hard to explain properly. Queen <3

Lyrical Highlights
'Strippers going up and down that pole, and I still got my money'
'All I see is signs, all I see is dollar signs'
'Gold all up in my grill, and I still got my money'
'I still got my money' (used about 1000 times x)

It definitely is, it makes a statement about the album and I wouldn't have it anywhere but as the opener! Yeah it should be Same Ol' Mistakes length tbh x (or at least a normal 3:30-ish time)

⚠️🖤🖤 9 ~ Stupid In Love 🖤🖤⚠️

Definitely the most left-field choice here!! I put 'Stupid In Love' in the top 10 primarily because of Rih's vocal delivery (as I've said for many songs... ;o). You can tell this is a very personal song as the sparse production makes every word crystal clear. It's a beautiful song and way underrated :( It definitely feels like a darker, sadder follow up to 'Take A Bow' all round. As a ballad it's incredible and it's slowly grew into one of my all time faves <3

Lyrical Highlights
'So I made it even though Katy, told me that this would be nothing but a waste of time
And she was right'
'This is stupid, I'm not stupid
Don't talk to me, like I'm stupid'
'My new nickname is 'you idiot''
'Which one of us is really dumb?'

Oh my GOD at Katy getting a shoutout in "Stupid in Love"! :') That's actually one of my faves from 'Rated R' - it's probably her most ballad-heavy album but it really stands out due to its lyrics alluding to the awful events that occurred that year :(

I don't know why but I hated "Pour It Up" (along with most of 'Unapologetic' ) when I first heard it and it wasn't until I saw the video that it probably clicked with me *.* Such an anthem!

Somehow I doubt she'd get one these days :')

It took a while to grow on me as well! It is indeed *.*

🏃🏽‍♀️🏃🏽‍♀️🐴8 ~ Jump🐴🏃🏽‍♀️🏃🏽‍♀️

Okay like FourFiveSeconds if you'd told me a year ago this would be so high I just wouldn't believe it (not sure why you'd be predicting where an Unapologetic album track ranks in my top Rih songs tbh x) but it's just gone up and up in my estimations *.* It was the messy drop that put me off the song for ages but I've even come round to that, I think this is my most played Rihanna song in the last year and I'm not surprised tbh when I neglected it's ass for so long  That intro is my favourite ever in a Rihanna song, the way the music slowly builds up into something massive is so gooood. There's some great lyrics and I also really like the rap (I found out it's a guy called Kevin Cossen (me neither x) who features on this rather than Kanye who I thought it was ;o No idea why he wasn't featured) On instrumental's alone this would be top 3.

Lyrical Highlights
'When you fuck them other girls, I bet they be wondering, why you always call my name'
'Ride it, my pony
My saddle is waiting'
'Think I give a damn, boy don't you know who I am?'
'It's the the rise and the fall, and you could have had it all'

💠💍7 ~ Diamonds💠💍

I've always said on here that this is her best, but tbh it's always been very close around the top and as much as I love this other songs have just outshined it. But it is an absolutely STUNNING track !! I feel like I've said this about 1000 times during this but Rih's vocals make the song, particularly during the chorus when they are just breathtaking omg. It's a very powerful song despite it's tempo, one of her most instant for sure  What a MOMENT it's been on tour as well, on the ANTI it was undoubtedly the highlight of the whole night. I love how she basically wanted us to blind her with the phone torches :')

After the last two lead singles which were pop bangers it was a risk for Rih to go with a mid tempo song but it obviously paid off for her and I'd say this is one of her classics with the public now! (MAYBE her most recent although I'm not sure about 'Work'...idk.)

Lyrical Highlights
'You're a shooting star I see, a vision of ecstasy'
'We're beautiful, like diamonds in the sky'
'Palms rise to the universe as we moonshine and Molly'
'Shine bright like a diamond'
