Posted January 23, 20187 yr Hello, I am currently in my fourth year at university and for my dissertation I have chosen the impact/influence Spotify has had on consumer behaviour within the UK. I was wondering if anyone could assist me with any good material or suggestions ? Completely understandable if the post is not acceptable and if mods would like to delete! Thanks Edited January 23, 20187 yr by Guiller1994
January 23, 20187 yr I think you will struggle for literature, but there may be some good articles online - but maybe not 'reference-able'. Personally for me the I don't necessarily think there has been that much of a shift. People have always been drawn to what is popular (and still are). Take the NOW series for example, I am pretty sure the CD tracklist will look very similar to Hot Hits UK. I find the more interesting concept is how record labels can have influence to make songs popular through playlist management. I think the same behaviours shown on Spotify are exactly the same as those shown on iTunes before.
January 23, 20187 yr Some good articles that may help: https://pitchfork.com/features/article/9686...uture-of-music/ https://pitchfork.com/features/article/unco...e-sound-of-pop/ and https://pudding.cool/2017/03/timeless/index.html which isn't an article on your topic but may be of interest - it measures how 'timeless' a song is by looking at its number of plays on Spotify.
