Sonia is top ten because she managed to recover from being irritating by telling the Carters like it is, pushing Sharon into the hook a duck, being the only person to give a shit about Dot and calling Stacey out on some home truths.

10. Keanu Taylor (8.65)

Making a top 10 debut is the eldest of the Taylor kids and also the highest place male character in this year's countdown. Keanu has proved to be the endearing and level headed member of the Taylor family - well until he got involved in Aidan's heist at the end of the year. Though even then, he was one of the less involved and committed members of the group. Keanu has also had a lovely on screen relationship developing with Ingrid, who has sadly now left. Keanu has also developed a great friendship with Jay, which will no doubt develop further now that Ben has left. Danny Walters plays the part fantastically and Keanu really has the potential to continue going from strength to strength as a character. It's very telling that 8(!) is the lowest score for him amongst a bunch of very opinionated posters!!

09. Denise Fox (8.70)

Queen of the pasta duff duff, Denise, also grabs herself a top 10 place and replaces Kim to ensure some Fox representation in the top 10 for another year. The previously under-utilised and underrated Denise took centre stage under SOC's rule of EastEnders. We saw her struggle with her decision over whether to give Baby Ray up for adoption, find out Kim wasn't really her sister (which turned out to be a lie) and particularly importantly doing a GCSE in English. We saw Denise at her most vulnerable, struggling for food and money, and being too proud to tell Kush or Kim about it. In the end, Denise accepted help and eventually got back on her feet by being one of the rare number of characters with a job off the Square!

08. Honey Mitchell (8.80)

It's hard to think of a time when Honey wasn't universally loved by fans, but apparently she was only 57 last time!! A rare glimmer of happiness and naivety in a show full of murders, cheats and liars Honey is a breath of fresh air and a true gem. Honey had a fairly low key start to 2017 spending time comforting and supporting Jack following Ronnie's death. She was later treated to a new carpet from Pam & Les as they moved into their old flat ;o Her best moments came in Autumn after Janet was accidentally knocked over by Tina. She proved that she can do both light and grittier scenes. She's been incredible in the scenes following her finding out about Billy and Tina sleeping together. A true icon and modern EE legend.

07. Tracey (9.00)

The silent icon, Tracey, returns the top 10 after just missing out last time! Perhaps Tracey was helped along by her increased screen time last year as Tracey had her first EVER storyline!! As part of Fi and Willmott-Brown's plan to ruin the pub, Fi managed to manufacture a situation in which a member of the bar staff had to be sacked. In a cruel twist, it was Tracey who unfortunately received the boot. A square wide revolt following, but Tracey didn't leave jobless as Vincent kindly offered her a role at The Albert. Of course, before long, Tracey was back in the Queen Vic where she belonged silently judging everyone as normal.

Denise *.* She's one of those characters who steals the show even when she's not really doing much or just doing "normal" stuff.

With an incredible jump up into the top 10 (and very almost the top 5) is everyone's former least fave now turned fave and life giver on the show, Sonia. Yes, things were that bad in 2017 that Sonia bloody Fowler has became a non-ironic fave. First Brexit now this.... After a brief stint off the show for a job in Kettering (i.e. maternity leave), Hurricane Sonia was unleashed and all of Bex's bullies and both Martin & Stacey felt the full force of her power. Hurricane Sonia also proved to be the strongest force on the Square, iconically knocking barely a Hurricane Sharon into a pool of water in the process. Her one liners and general presence on the show really made it bearable and she's rewarded with a nice finishing position from Buzzjack!

Narrowly pipping Sonia to a top 5 finish thanks to having more 11s is her dunkee, Sharon. The queen of camp and feeling safe in Walford is the highest original character in the countdown this time round, although she had a relatively low key 2017 compared to her drama filled life on the show. She welcomed back her best friend, Michelle, and supported Phil through his recovery and discovery of having a secret son with Denise. Sharon cemented her place as the new Mitchell Matriarch, spending most of the year sticking up for Louise in various situations and getting herself soaked by Sonia and punched by Karen in the process. Sharon has also been showing signs of being the potential new Angie recently with her inability to get through family dinners etc. without a few bottles of wine...

The first ever winner of an EastEnders rate on Buzzjack was surprisingly Shirley! She makes a big return to the top 5 this year for the first time since that win. 2017 saw Shirley morph from being the loose canon of the Carters to actually being pretty sensible and reliable. Shirley, along with Tina, struggled with caring for Sylvie until her untimely death through the first part of the year before later trying to help the Carter through their many money woes. Unfortunately, Shirley also saw herself retired from The Vic at the hands of Fi. And in amongst it all, we had sarcastic loveable Shirley commenting on all the comings and goings in the Vic. Shirley also finally shook off her selfless past and took the wrap for Babe's dodgy dealings in The Vic and went to prison for Mick. We saw her having a surprisingly tough time inside, yet returned harder than ever to support Mick and get rid of Whitney.
