I see that a few of you have bought or are buying Rudebox this week. So what do you think? I love hearing the opinions of people who are not obsessed like me as I know I am completely biased :P .

I think it is his best album ever and I love every second of it  .

I've heard the album 3 times now and it's a very mixed bag. I have bought every Robbie album so far and downloaded this one to preview it before buying as I was a little apprehensive about it. I enjoyed "Intensive Care" but it lacked the spark of previous albums.

The "Rudebox" single grew on me but can understand why it wasn't a huge hit. I know that it has put some people off of buying the album but it's not a good representation of what is on there. There are so many different styles of songs on there and I'm sure that I'll come to like most, if not all, of them.

What I do think though is that some of it sounds a bit underproduced and unfinished. The album lacks direction. I'm a huge fan of The Human League and Robbie's version of "Louise" sounds like a demo recording using really cheap electronic equipment. I wish he'd got the Pet Shop Boys to produce this song. His cover of "Kiss Me" is good but not as good as the original.

There are some really good moments... "Lovelight", "The 80's", "The 90's" and some lyrics which will make you laugh out loud but it all sounds a bit disjointed. "Summertime" is a great song and it's a bit strange seeing it on this album as it's a few years old and has been released before. It leaves you wishing that Robbie would work with Guy Chambers again. "Dickhead" is just a stupid song which should have been a B-side.

If you really like Robbie's previous work then you will enjoy this album but it's not a classic album. It sounds like a bit of a clearout of material. I will buy a copy of the CD so it can't be that bad but ROBBIE PLEASE GET BACK TOGETHER WITH GUY!

PS Can someone tell me how many cover versions are on this album?

Yeah, see from the purchases thread that a few here have bought it so please give us some verdicts.

Thanks for your honest review. It is funny when people say this is disjointed and all over the shop because I actually find it quite endearing as this is Robbie to a T. For me this album is a perfect reflection of him as a person.... witty, clever, fun, bonkers, crude, honest, vulnerable and yes..all over the place, can't make up his mind what he wants to be...just like this album  .
I'm still listening to it, on its first listen, after I give it a few more listens I post my verdict. It really sounds good so far
I've bought every Robbie album so far and I have to admit that Intensive Care was pretty bland, easily his worst album. But I'm pleasantly surprised with Rudebox, in one word it's brilliant. Very different to anything he's done before, quite electronic and dancey, very 80's influenced. Lyrically the guy is a genius! Very honest lyrics, as we've come to expect from Robbie. The only down side of the album is that at 17 tracks, it's a bit too long, he could have done with cutting out a couple of songs. Surprisingly there's 4 covers on there - 'Louise' by the Human League, which sounds pretty much identical to the original and a bit pointless; 'We're the Pet Shop Boys', featuring the PSB themselves; 'Bongo Bong' which is really cool; and 'Kiss Me' by Stephen Duffy, which is brilliant - the most dancey song Robbie has ever done, very catchy, very well produced, definitely needs to be a single! Other stand out tracks include 'She's Madonna' (co-written with the PSB) and my personal favoruite, the hidden track 'Dickhead' - the lyrics have to be heard to be believed, they'll have you cracking up!! I think Robbie will actually make a few new fans with this album.

Thanks mango

Do you like The 80's and The 90's. A lot of us fans think that these are masterpieces but I just wonder if you really need to be a fan to connect with them. They give me goosebumps everytime I listen..but that is because I know his history so well...the lyrics of these 2 do my head in  .

I thought I heard that "Lovelight" was a cover version - can anyone confirm?

Yes it's a cover of a Lewis taylor song.

I have read 4 reviews... and they all claimed that this is one of his best albums (if not his best)...

All you have to do is skip Rudebox and everything else is really good

(I like Rudebox at the moment :shame on me:)

Yes it's a cover of a Lewis taylor song.

So there are 5 covers on there??? He definitely needs to give Guy Chambers a call! :o

Yes but there are 17 songs in total so there are still 12 originals from Robbie which is what most albums have these days isn't it ;) .

well I personally have never been a fan of his music, Ive found it really bland and boring.

but this album really took me by surprise, it really si an amazing album!

he is a cover artict

He's a covers artist?

I was really disapointed with his last album but this one is a definite big improvement. Some really great songs and others that are growers.

No no no :o :arrr:

He better not ever go back to Guy. This album is an absolutey pop masterpiece and is such a growner. It is such an enjoyable listen with so many different styles of music. Rob has just made one of, if not the best album of his carear. The last thing he should do is go back to Guy chambers. Did you not hear Escapology? His worst album ever IMO -_-

And as Suse, said it has 12 original songs which is the same as his other albums ^_^

If you ignore Rudebox, the rest of the album isn't too bad. Very 80s Electro-pop vibe to it which is good.

I like it.

I don't mean to rain on anyone's parade or anything, but why isn't this in the Robbie Forum?
