I’d agree with Jonjo that it could do with being reduced to two volumes a year now that the charts/radio in general are so slow at adopting new music/creating hits.

It must cost so much to license everything for these albums that if they start to struggle to go platinum then they surely won’t be turning in much of a profit and it will quickly damage the brand’s reputation. Better to put out two high quality collections each year than three packed full of filler.

Unless they’re mega long runners or have some sort of other cultural significance, I don’t see the need to include anything that hasn’t charted top 20. Some of the low top 30/40 grime hits on Now 101 are pointless - grime fans are probably not going to be buying Now compilations and most stereotypical Now buyers are probably unlikely to enjoy these tracks. If they’re huge crossover hits like Freaky Friday then fair enough but the likes of Ay Caramba seem pointless to include.

Amusingly, in Germany, where the charts are even slower, there are still four double-disc editions of Bravo Hits each year. There are literally about 10 genuine smash hits on each volume these days so you can only imagine the cries of quality control on the Amazon/iTunes reviews for them

I can’t say I’ve seen it advertised anywhere. Haven’t seen it on TV, or on billboards. It’s been promoted to death on their Facebook and social media outlets. I wonder if that’s had an effect?

The adverts only 15 secs long and I’ve seen it a few times on the TV. Maybe that’s not enough

I see the advert a lot on Youtube. Doesn't surprise me that the sales are low at the moment. There's way too many spin-off NOWs out that appeal more to the Christmas market than the main series one. Plus there's not much advertising from what I see. I guess the budget went all on NOW 100's coverage and the NOW-NOW Spin-off.

I imagine sales will pick up closer and after Christmas. I still think they should focus on more Pop songs that didn't chart than tracks that don't appeal to a large audience.

This is what I reckon the NOW 100 tracklist would have looked like had they made it 2 discs of current hits

Amazon.com has just revealed the track list for the next numbered NOW album in the US, NOW That's What I Call Music! Vol. 69, set to be released on Friday, 01 February 2019. Here it is:

01. Ariana Grande - breathin' (3:13)

02. Marshmello feat. Bastille - Happier (3:31)

03. DJ Snake feat. Ozuna, Cardi B & Selena Gomez - Taki Taki (3:30)

04. The Chainsmokers feat. Kelsea Ballerini - This Feeling (3:15)

05. Silk City (Diplo & Mark Ronson) feat. Dua Lipa - Electricity [radio edit] (3:39)

06. Calvin Harris & Sam Smith - Promises (3:32)

07. Loud Luxury feat. brando - Body (2:42)

08. Ellie Goulding, Diplo & Swae Lee - Close to Me (2:59)

09. LSD (Labrinth, Sia & Diplo) - Thunderclouds (3:04)

10. Shawn Mendes & Zedd - Lost in Japan [remix] (3:15)

11. Khalid - Better (3:44)

12. Camila Cabello - Consequences (2:53)

13. Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper - Shallow [radio edit] (3:32)

14. Dan + Shay - Tequila (3:13)

15. Lauv feat. Julia Michaels - There's No Way (2:52)

16. lovelytheband - broken (3:24)

NOW What's Next! Bonus Tracks

17. George Ezra - Shotgun (3:17)

18. Jack Samson - Slow 3 (3:58)

19. The Accidentals - Heavy Flag (3:53)

20. Sasha Sloan - Older (3:08)

Total running time: 1:06:34

They're back to 20 tracks, reducing the NOW What's Next bonus tracks down to four, just like in NOW 34 (2010) through NOW 48 (2013). That being said, there is a 13-minute space left in the disc!

As you can see here, nine songs - almost half of the 20-track album - also appear on UK's NOW 101, in addition to George Ezra's "Shotgun" which appeared on the milestone NOW 100.

 , they have "Shallow" from the "A Star is Born" soundtrack - hope the UK NOW team can also manage this, albeit quite late, for inclusion on NOW 102 this coming March/April, since it is a UK No. 1 single.

NOW That's What I Call Music! 20th Anniversary Volume 2 will also be released on 01 February, but I wasn't able to find its track list yet.

What do you guys think of NOW 69's tracklist? I'd say it's fine, especially with its very attractive and glittery cover that bears some similarity to UK's NOW 96 (2017) - its lettering, specifically, since the numbers were just swapped lol  It's just the fact that it's very similar to NOW 101 that turned me off a little bit, but I guess the US also gets what the UK has. ^_^

Shotgun as a "What's Next" is probably a good call for once :P

It'll be great to include it even if it will be abit old by then. Bruno Mars '24K Magic' is one recent example of a track which missed the winter edition but made the spring one.

I hope NOW 102 has double Ari: “Breathin” anywhere on disc 1 and TUN to open disc 2
I doubt 'Breathing' will be on 102. 'Thank You, Next' will most certainly feature. If it is double Ari then it'll be her next single that'll be on it.

My mistake. I meant “Imagine”. If we do get double Ari on 102, it’ll more likely be “Imagine” anywhere on disc 1 and TUN opening disc 2

Imagine won't feature as it's only a promotional single and she's releasing a new proper single this Friday.

Is the German singles chart basically just a streaming only chart now?

Her new single which is out Friday is called “7 Rings”. Didn’t know “Imagine” was only a promotional single

NOW 20th Anniversary - Vol. 2's track listing.

01: Taylor Swift - Shake It Off (NOW Debut)

02: Britney Spears - Toxic (NOW 15)

03: Kesha - Tik Tok (NOW 33)

04: Ariana Grande feat. Iggy Azalea - Problem (NOW 51)

05: Jennifer Lopez feat. Pibtull - On the Floor (NOW 39)

06: Justin Bieber - Sorry (NOW 57)

07: Jason Derulo - Want to Want Me (NOW 55)

08: Chris Brown feat. Juelz Santana - Run It! (NOW 21)

09: Nelly - Hot In Herre (NOW 11)

10: Destiny's Child - Survivor (NOW 7)

11: *NSYNC - Pop (NOW 8)

12: Pitbull feat. Christina Aguilera - Feel this Moment (NOW 46)

13: Katy Perry - Roar (NOW 48)

14: P!nk - Blow Me (One Last Kiss) (NOW 44)

15: Ne-Yo - Let Me Love You (Until You Learn to Love Yourself) (NOW 45)

16: Usher - U Got It Bad (NOW 8)

17: Backstreet Boys - I Want It That Way (NOW Debut?)

18: Lady Gaga - Million Reasons (NOW 62)

19: OneRepublic - Counting Stars (NOW 49)

20: Imagine Dragons - Thunder (NOW 64)

Unsure about Backstreet Boys. From what I remember I Want it That Way never made a US NOW.

Just checked and you are correct. Hard to believe considering Backstreet Boys were such a NOW staple at the time!

It is hard to believe. It's one of their biggest hits! Can't believe the US NOW Team decided to skip it. I do love the fact they made NOW 67 last year with one of their new singles.

"I Want It That Way" may not have appeared in a numbered US NOW, but it was eventually included in the spin-off title, The Best of NOW That's What I Call Music! 10th Anniversary, released in 2008.

They got "Shake It Off" this time as the "exclusive" track for NOW 20th Anniversary Vol. 2. While it's a great and catchy song, it's a shame they didn't include "Closer" by The Chainsmokers & Halsey, which failed to appear on 2016's NOW 60 or even its follow-up, 2017's NOW 61. Otherwise, a very good track list.

As for which Ariana Grande track is to appear on the upcoming NOW 102 in the UK, I am confident that "thank u, next" will make it, considering that it lasted 6 weeks in a row at the top of the UK Singles Chart in November - December 2018. I think it might even be the album opener (i.e. CD 1 Track 1)! If they choose to include two Ari songs, well, let's see what happens, seeing that there are a few of her hits around too - "Imagine" (promo only track), the new track "7 Rings", and yes, "breathin" that appeared on NOW 69 US.

The new cover for Now 69 looks nice, but I wonder when they'll stop making them. The American version has always been awful in comparison to the UK one.

I have Now 39-74, and many from 76-95. I really wish they'd switch to two a year, because they became really dodgy after 95. I know it's not all their fault with the state of the charts regarding streaming, but they should exert some quality control, then I'd buy them again.
