You guys are weird! I mean I love Girls Aloud and Sugababes so I somewhat get them, but Spice Girls are just vastly superior!? The songs, the videos, the image, the characters... As for all these Mis-Teeq, Little Mix, Saturdays, Cheeky flipping Girls ones over Spices... :hithead: :hithead: :hithead: :hithead: :hithead:

I mean I know I'm biased but seriously come on guys...

I think it depends on which generation you're a part of. I was born after Wannabe was released so I was too young to appreciate the Spice Girls when they were first around. Girls Aloud, Sugababes, Atomic Kitten, etc have the nostalgia value for me that the Spice Girls undoubtedly have for people that bit older than me! The Saturdays came just as I was getting back into chart music too so it was a perfect storm. For the Spices, I've had to delve into their GH album myself and I love a lot of their songs but they don't all carry the same weight as Girls Aloud for example :heehee:

Don't give a shit. Spice Girls are "my generation" but don't be surprised to see so many Little Mix high up.

Notable omissions:

Icona Pop - I Love It, #1 (2013)

Sweet Female Attitude - Flowers, #2 (2000)

Personally I wouldn’t count female duos as being girl groups, but I see others have been included.

Also:

21st Century Girls - 21st Century Girls, #16 (1999)

Buffalo G - We’re Really Saying Something, #17 (2000)

Dream - He Loves U Not, #17 (2001)

Girls@Play - Airhead, #18 (2001)

Ladies First - I Can’t Wait, #19 (2002)

Madasun - Don’t You Worry, #14 (2000)

Madasun - Walking on Water, #14 (2000)

Made In London - Dirty Water, #15 (2000)

Sister 2 Sister - Sister, #18 (2000)

Supersister - Coffee, #16 (2000)

Thunderbugs - Friends Forever, #5 (1999)

Not that I can imagine anyone would be including these in their Top 40s, haha. There may be even more than what I’ve listed above, but that’s all I can think of.

It’s a bit of a shame how many irrelevant girl group Top 20 hits there are, while 5H - All in My Head (Flex) and That’s My Girl peaked at #25 and #26 respectively. :drama:

I think if I’d compiled this list, I’d have made a disclaimer to not include any 90s/00s girl groups that hadn’t achieved at least one Top 10 hit, to try and cut back on the irrelevant/forgotten acts like the ones I’ve listed above.

Thanks for all the hard work Jack, I’ll be contributing my rank asap!

I’m trying to make my list !!

It’s so difficult .

I am shocked at all the Girls Aloud love , I like them but for me they did not ever release a song that I would consider a classic.

I was obsessed with Spice Girls growing up but I don’t think it’s strange to prefer others. Okay ignore that one poster who chose Cheeky Girls...But for me, Girls Aloud’s Music was better produced and aged better than Spice Girls for the most part, though that’s not to say Spice Girls didn’t manage a few songs in my top 40. Little Mix are fairly recent so there’s no way of telling how well their music will age but they already have some of the biggest girl group hits of all time.

12. Jade - Don't Walk Away

13. En Vogue - Whatever

14. En Vogue – My Lovin' (You're Never Gonna Get It)

I wish I followed that logic now :(

It was hard to decide how to whittle it down tbh. Thanks for the input though!

Edited with all the omissions listed as well as Booty Luv (I can't believe I forgot them!)

If anyone wants to edit just post in this thread and let me know you have done so. Sorry for this being a bit of a mess, I just didn't know how to compile it :')

Luckily so far, I think people have been respectable enough and given their omissions in a respectful manner. But if you have an issue with anyone, please bring it to one of me, Cameron or UV and we will deal with it accordingly. (Just in case)

So excited for this. I hope Little Mix can get more than just 2 or 3 in the top 100 :/

No chances for pushing Lithuanian girl groups. :(

P.S : Missed Shampoo - Trouble (UK # 11 in 1994).

Changing Faces - Ghettout

702 - Where my girls at

Can also be added :)

All added!

Except 702 which doesn't fit the criteria.

I can confirm that, Jack, you have officially broken Jay & me, but mostly Jay

How is this possible!? Where did y'all start! Grr.

Don't give a shit. Spice Girls are "my generation" but don't be surprised to see so many Little Mix high up.

I was (semi) joking

However I don't think Girls Aloud's music is ageing as well as the Spice Girls though tbh. I'm a huge Girls Aloud fan and love their songs but I genuinely feel like all the singles from the first 2 Spice Girls albums, although they very much belong to the time, have stood the test of time far more than Girls Aloud or Sugababes have. Already GA and Sugas are like a distant memory and yet 20 years ago Spice Girls songs and performances are still hugely remembered. Even Destiny's Child's and TLC's songs feel a bit more classic / remembered (even if I much prefer GA and Sugas) Little Mix very much belong to the GA category aswell.

Still weird as hell though, weirdos :arrr:
